We chose to make the drive over to the restaurant inside the inn. The location is nice. Pretty views. The food was not. The chicken in Lethe olive oil and garlic pasta was cold compared with the pasta and gave a flavor profile of day old chicken. The mashed potatoes were so sweet that we considered the possibility of putting them on waffles. The steak was cooked well, however had a cinnamon flavor to it, perhaps this was the butter they serve with the steak. Overall not a place I would choose to return to. The staff were kind. read more

When we first arrived in Bayfield, we had brunch at Bayfield Inn. It was good but I was disappointed by the "fresh fruit cup". It was the fruit you buy out of a can... We went the next day to have lunch on the rooftop and that was also good. We were hungry and I forgot to take a photo! We had the Lake Superior fresh caught whitefish and it was delicious but my veggie bowl that I ordered was canned vegetables and not fresh. Again, disappointing. Truly dreadful. This isn't a restaurant--it's a self-service cafeteria disguised as a dining experience. You fill out your own order slip, march it up to a counter like you're in a DMV line, and then, yes, you're expected to carry your own drinks back to the table. I ordered the blackened whitefish tacos and waited a full 30 minutes. When they finally arrived, the seasoning was so aggressively salty I considered calling my cardiologist from the table. The food? Awful. Absolutely joyless. And if something goes wrong--and it will--you're completely on your own. No staff in sight, no manager, no help. One dish for our table never even showed up. We flagged people down like castaways on a deserted island. Nobody cared. Nobody came. The entire operation appears to be run by unsupervised children plodding though a summer job. We paid $110 for three dismal entrées, each one more forgettable than the last. The coleslaw was arid, the salsa tasted like it came from a grocery store jar labeled "mild regret," and not a single dish had an ounce of character. It was a beautiful afternoon and we got there right after they opened for the evening. We were able to snag a table at the rail with a great view of the lake. We had a couple rounds of drinks which were an ok price and selection. We decided to stay for dinner which you order at the bar and they deliver to the table. The restaurant is on the deck upstairs above the inn. Manage expectations when coming here: this is not a fancy place. More like fast-casual. You are seated and then you write your selections on the menu with a pencil and take it to the bar. Then your food comes up from the kitchen. The wife had beautiful avocado toast with arugula and a sprinkling of balsamic on top. I had fish and chips. These both came with fries, but her fries were different than mine. The panko breading on my fish was so crunchy and good. This was the best fish I ate in a couple weeks' vacay near Lake Superior. Everything was great and the place was very chill! Did I mention the view? So pretty with the bay out in front and the boats at the marina. The food came out quickly and the bar was efficient and the hostess was quick to clean vacant tables. The Bayfield inn is a classic for anyone visiting Bayfield - lake views, big patio, decent food. I have enjoyed my experiences here for the most part but would say if you are looking for fine dining then maybe look elsewhere. I had the blackened fish cobb salad and then an eggs Benedict. The Benedict was definitely better than the salad as I felt the produce wasn't super fresh in the salad. Bloody Mary was great! Drinks are strong and reasonably priced and it's a fun place for a happy hour in the sunshine overlooking the water! I'm also pretty sure that one of my friends got sick from their chicken Caesar salad so docking stars for that. read more

We got lunch here after a 3-hour boat tour of the lovely Apostle Islands and the gorgeous sea caves. The Deluxe burger ($15 + $3 for a Beyond patty) is vegan if you omit the cheese. It's a perfectly respectable Beyond burger, though get it with the pretzel bun, not the brioche bun. The beer-battered fries were also good. The best part is that the Bayfield Inn is less crowded than the Pier Plaza restaurant across the street (which also has a Beyond burger). read more

Middle of the road - beautiful views of Lake superior, but service is meh. We were seated right next to the lake side and presented with a pencil and paper menu to mark what we were ordering. We were directed to take this to the bar to place our order, and someone would run our food to us. The counter staff was nice enough but inefficient. One took food orders, one beverages, but nothing was labeled so people didn't know which line to get in and there was a lot of shuffling around. Drink refills were me running to the counter again. Why am I paying restaurant prices then for fast food service? Oh I do have to mention the smoked fish cakes. I hate fish, but when I tried a bite of my friend's dish, I had to reconsider for a bit. The Inn has done major upgrades since our last visit. The view of the lake from the rooms is worth every penny. The Inn is within walking distance of Lake Superior, ferry, tour boats, restaurants and shops. The rooms are beautiful, lots of space. The Deck Four stars not because of the hotel, but what they have done to the dinning. The Deck used to have appetizers only, they expanded to full menu. The Deck has a more casual menu than the Main Dining Room. By casual, it's truly casual. Food took over an hour to arrive, after we waited 45 minutes for a table. My Cedar Fizz cocktail was excellent however! Be aware that they do not provide free tap water- you must purchase bottled water (very Euro of them). My friends got the fish tacos which they enjoyed, and I got fish and chips. The French fries are were clearly frozen and not even warm or crispy. The fish was just okay- very bland. We also split the cheese curds (when in Wisconsin, right?) and they were definitely the highlight of the meal. read more

Great spot on the lake! Nice view of Lake Superior and it is in walking distance of everything. The room was big and had a tv with a Jacuzzi tub. My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. This hotel was absolutely perfect! It was right on the water and a short walking distance to everything. I highly recommend splurging for a Lakeside room, it is very worth it. Our room was clean and spacious. The restaurant was also very tasty as well. We went up on the deck fora perfect late lunch location. The deck is a beautiful place to have drinks and food. Even though it wasnt listed on the menu (which is a piece of paper you complete your order on and bring to the bar) we asked for a Bloody Mary and they had it! Awesome. Next I had an Impossible burger which was great, plus some super yummy fries. My sister had a super salad and an very tasty house dressing. There was lots of space between the tables, and while there was not a lot of table service, we had a wonderful experience. Sad, disappointing, and rude! Management needs to review the most basic tenants of customer service. Unimpressive and shockingly lackadaisical, totally unfriendly service for what's otherwise a nice spot for a local meal. Place needs quality control in service. Hostesses sharing a snack at the bar while we waited for a mistake to be corrected and other arriving people waited to be greeted - that is not a good look.... It's pathetic. The experience: The customer is wrong?? Meat missing from elderly aunts dish (not a huge deal) - but she's then challenged, told she didn't order it, and that she needs to "ask the kitchen" herself? Bizarre and sad response I'm not sure I've ever seen before. Especially strange to refute a customer having ordered something when the receipts indicate she did... You order using a paper that you mark up and have to bring up to a counter to pay ahead for. The paper clearly indicated and would prove that she indeed ordered what she said she ordered. The staff member who verbally confirmed and processed the order could corroborate. Still, she's told that no, she didn't order it, the kitchen didn't neglect it, and that she had to "go ask the kitchen," herself if she wanted the meat. Food runner refused to take the dish back and simply said "I can't do that, you have to." My other party member assisting her ends up being challenged by another staff member, told the meat was there, and then had to walk the dish up and show it to them to prove it. Absurd and embarrassing as a customer. This was followed by a 30 or so minute wait, during which everyone in my party had no choice but to finish their meal. Multiple party members had to ask if the fixed dish was even coming out. Clear confusion on behalf of staff, who after the half hour wait walk out a half-cheeked redo. Zero apology, zero check ins, zero attention to our clear and justified frustration. For having access to quality, local fish etc. it is their service that needs review. Food is overall fine for lunch with a view and some drinks. Management: have a customer service training session! Back to the basics. Perhaps designate a quality control leader or floor supervisor. You can run it as your counter-service concept with food runners, sure, but CARE about what you're doing - at least tell staff to seem like they care... and do not tell people they're wrong. Especially elderly women who are in chemo treatment, and demonstrably NOT in the wrong, as evidenced by your own ticket system. Do better. Happy to talk if you want to go over my experience. We decided last minute on a weekend up north ahead of the 4th of July weekend and were fortunate to be able to find two rooms for Friday night only-one in the main building and one across the street in the "guest cottage" (a converted house with 4 rooms on the 1st floor and 1 upstairs). My wife and I were at the guest cottage. Our room featured a king bed (reasonably comfortable) a good sized bathroom, sitting area and small kitchenette. There was also a sofa sleeper although we did not use this and a nice patio with a table facing the lake. The room itself was fine, clean but nothing special, just an average lower mid-scale room. There was a fair bit of noise from the upstairs neighbors and some street noise could also be heard. The a/c worked well but wasn't too quiet and the room could have used more lighting. There were no windows save the patio door on one end of the long room. Location very convenient in the center of town near the docks and lake. For a one-night stay it was fine, nothing special just a place to recuperate between Bayfield adventures. read more

It was pretty busy both days we visit, although it was off season. The only serve food between 11am and 3pm. Nothing special. We had the nachos and wings. Both ok, but not outstanding. You order at the bar and they bring the food rather quick. The second day we entered a few minutes to 3pm. First thing they asked was if we would like to order food. Nice touch.
