Northern Rail Traincar Inn

Northern Rail Traincar Inn

The Northern Rail Traincar Inn delivered exactly what they advertised and more. My husband and I…read morestayed at this Inn while visiting our retirement property up in Two Harbors. This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

This hotel is an absolute joy to stay in. Yes the rooms are extremely small, but of course you…read morewould expect that. It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

I have never left a bad review on anything besides The Isaac Wing House. My husband and I stayed…read morein the Emerald Suite for our 10 year Anniversary. We love Bayfield and Honeymooned there so, wanted to go back. It was a nightmare 24 hours to say the least. Safety is the biggest problem! There was no locks on the doors besides your own room in the house. Our room was next to a shared kitchen and the first night we stayed two strangers got into the house and were drunk etc. loudly knocking pictures off the walls, fighting loudly with each other, moving furniture, swearing, singing, and tried to get into our room. We have never stayed in a shared space before so thought this was just an odd experience having nothing to compare it to. Finally hearing someone snoring behind our door at 3am we got up and opened the door to a woman and man sleeping. Like literally opened the door on them and had to step over them! We were both very scared and ran over to the help desk for the Bayfield in across the street. I told the front desk that they needed to get these strangers out of our place, we do not feel safe, and the cops should be called if they don't leave immediately. We went back up the stairs to our room and they were STILL sleeping and completely out of it. My husband and i had to yell at them to move so we could get in our room to pack our things. Nobody from the front desk every came over to help. We then asked for a complete refund, packed our stuff and drove 5 hours home after just getting there less than 24 hours before. Absolute nightmare vacation. After speaking with the Manager - Alicia - for The Bayfield Inn, she told me she was talking with upper management and locks will be put on the house. Mind you ALL doors to the place were left open ALL night from complete strangers coming in from off the street! Children and families were also staying in suites there. I told her all I care about is them getting locks so nobody else has to go through what we did. I never received a call as promised from her letting me know locks had been installed. It was such a traumatic experience that visiting Bayfield has been tainted for us. Just watch out for this place. Safety should be the biggest priority for a business. I have never even had this horrible of an experience from a 2 star hotel. Good luck all!

Beds were comfy and we had a great time hanging out in the living room. Being in Bayfield is great and staying over night puts it over the top. I would highly recommend the Isaac wing house for anyone

Seagull Bay Motel

We were visiting Bayfield for the first time in mid-May, and selected the Seagull Bay Motel as an…read more"affordable" option ($126, with taxes, on Hotels.com). On the positive side, -- our room (which was on the lower side of the property) had incredible water views, -- there's a shared outdoor porch with chairs overlooking the water and an inviting backyard with picnic tables and chairs, -- a flat path along the water connects the motel to downtown Bayfield. (You can walk to town in about 15 leisurely minutes without worrying about parking there). -- the room was clean, and had some conveniences (small microwave, tv, coffee maker (but no tea!), toiletries), -- the very small bathroom has a tub/shower combo, -- we didn't hear traffic noise in spite of being on main route into town, -- there was free parking. However, -- the price point was high given the overall quality of the motel and the fact that it was still pre-season. This is effectively a small and rather dated budget motel. -- Breakfast is NOT included in the price of the room. -- Our bed creaked whenever either my husband or I moved. -- Rooms are close together, and there is no privacy if you want to sit on the shared back porch. -- The motel has a unique check-in procedure. When we entered the lobby, there was no one there. We needed to call or text to announce our arrival, and were then provided instructions on how to access our room. We didn't interact with any staff in person until checkout. We would stay here again if we were to return to Bayfield, but would compare options to see the best quality to cost ratio.

The motel was very clean and it seemed to be newly renovated. It was near town and we had a great…read moreview of Lake Superior from our large window. There was a deck with chairs, a table, and an umbrella right outside our room. The bed was comfortable and there was a small refrigerator and microwave in the room. The check in and check out process was easy and so was unloading our car because we were able to park right outside our door. It was affordable stay and we really enjoyed our trip!
