Nice place but the service is horrible. Was treated very poorly at check-in. I wanted to be angry but It was apparent that she is mentally ill. If you don't mind being insulted; it's a nice place to stay. Make sure to block your credit card so she can't make other charges after you leave! read more

Super friendly host. Many of the rooms are stand alone cabins right on a Chequamegon Bay, on Lake Superior. Just south of Bayfield. Very private with their own beach on the bay. Full kitchen, two bedrooms, living room. Porch on the lake side with a grill. read more

Susie was SO accommodating! Truly a sweet person. We stayed in Carriage rental which is the garage apartment to the Hendrickson House. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed and more. It was just the right size for two people and two well behaved dogs. Dogs aren't typically allowed but Susie accommodated us. We promised to not let the dogs on the furniture and kept them in their kennels when we went out without them. The apartment has a full sized fridge and a dishwasher. I love to cook so this was a nice surprise. The photos on the website are a bit outdated. The apartment actually looks a bit better now. It's located right in downtown Bayfield. There is a grocery store and great coffee shop down the street. Just a couple minutes walk to resturants, the Madeline Island ferry and Apostle Island Cruise. We truly enjoyed our stay! Worst service ever. If you are a customer here, don't think management cares about your business. I've stayed here before but never rated it, and decided not to go back BUT not by choice... My reservation was SOLD to someone else without my knowledge and the MISTAKE was blamed on me. I was yelled it, called a liar and hung up on. Plenty of other options! Just writing a review about our stay last spring. We were actually on our way up Lake Supeior's shore, to explore Minnesota's North Shore. So we only stayed in Bayfield two nights (Not NEARLY long enough, of course!). We had reserved the "Coach House" in the Hendrickson House in Bayfield. When we arrived at Superior Rentals' office to check in, we were offered both the Coach House and the main house, because no one had reserved the main house! We were given keys to both, and told to use whichever one we liked best. So we basically received a free upgrade! We chose the main house, and how beautiful it was! The view from the bedroom (upstairs) was a stunning lake view! We had the use of a whirlpool tub, and a full kitchen. We also had a charcoal grill to use! The location is wonderful as well, allowing us to park our vehicle, and walk all around the town. Breakfast at Big Water or Egg Toss is highly recommended, and so is pizza from Sgt. Pepperoni's! We'll be back! What a wonderful place, and fantastic service! read more

Stayed here over the weekend for a wedding. Beautiful scenery and site. However, just horrible customer service by the owner. I had made my reservation a month ago for two nights. I was charged for one night right away. She never said anything on the phone about charging right away. When I got there she asked for my credit card. I gave it to her thinking she just wanted to verify it was correct. She then ran the card for the whole amount. I told her she had already charged me. She then voided out the whole transaction and then tried to run just for the 2nd night. My card wouldn't work. (I have a small credit limit) It got sorted out eventually, by her running the card because she had my cc#s written down. Just plain awful customer service. Please avoid this place. I only gave 2 stars because the property is gorgeous. But the owner needs some lessons in customer service. read more

I stayed in Cabin 4 only one night even though I was charged for 3 nights. The cabin was okay but lots of things needed work; gas grill on the deck was dirty and barely worked, there were no batteries in the clocks in each room, floors were dirty and bath tub would not plug. My receipt said I would be refunded for leaving early if I didn't stay but no refund given. I would not recommend this resort. read more

Attended a gathering of twenty friends in the Charthouse and the Lighthouse from July 12th through the 19th. Great facilities that accommodated our gang!!! Susie Defoe (owner) was very pleasant and was always available for our needs. Even though, it is located a mere three miles from downtown Bayfield, it gave the impression of being a true resort. Our group did lots of activities in and around the area, including Washburn and Ashland; and we always ended up preparing our dinners at the Lighthouse because of its huge kitchen and dining area. read more

The location is EXCELLENT; directly on a little bay of Lake Superior. It's close to Bayfield but feels somewhat remote. The cabin options are great, too. If you only have one or two of you I recommend the Wheelhouse or Bell Tower rooms; they are both lovely and have terrific views. The rest of our group stayed in a large group cabin which has a terrific kitchen, comfortable beds, great living rooms, nice sized dining table and wonderful outside decks looking toward the water. The cabins are nicely spaced out with a little bit of playground equipment here and there for the kids. The cabins also have board games and cards for family fun. Now the bad: the management is not great and the walls of the Wheelhouse are very thin; we could clearly hear snoring from people next door to us to the point that we had to turn on the bathroom fan to drown it out. We were there in the winter so we didn't have this option but in warmer weather I suspect the windows could be opened to allow the sound of the lake to instead fill your room. Back to the management, they seemed nice enough but not very on the ball. We reserved one cabin and put a hold on a second if we needed it. When we got there and let ourselves into the second cabin, which we ended up needing, we found it ripped apart from water damage from frozen pipes. They never bothered calling us to tell us this occurred. They did offer us the aforementioned rooms for our overflow lodging but these single room arrangements were very different logistically than a second cabin for multiple people. Not a terrible lapse in customer service but a substantial lapse nonetheless. The management should have taken the minute it would have taken to call us, but instead we discovered this in the dark of winter upon our arrival. Update: I learned that they were allowing us to spill over into additional cabins as a courtesy since we were such a large group. A call still would have been nice but I added a star (from three to four) to reward their courtesy of additional lodging if we needed it. read more

We had a large group stay at Cabin 7, Superior Rentals. As we were all coming in at different times, with me, the person who had made the reservation, getting there last, Sue was kind enough to allow everyone else into the cabin. It was beautiful, fully equipped, large deck with a fire pit in front. As we were going to Big Top for a concert it was the perfect location. Sue also let us stay longer on Sunday. We felt Sue was extremely accommodating and helpful, friendly and the cabin was perfect for a large group. read more

Fabulous stay with the wonderful Susie! We arrived at 11pm to find that the rest of our group had told the management that the whole party had already arrived (but forgot about us) and the extra room was then rented out. Within 15 minutes, Susie had the problem solved, arranged for a lovely condo for us down the road and had us fully installed there. Excellent customer service! Even though we didn't actually stay on the property, the rest of our group who stayed in the lighthouse said the beach was lovely, the house was extraordinary, and that they were looking forward to returning. We hope to return, as well. read more

The house was fine. The exorbitant cleaning charges and 45 minutes I got yelled at on the phone (long distance, on my dime) for leaving dirty dishes was not. The manager made a comment about not making the bed. What?!?! Do they not change all the sheets between guests? Isn't there a law about that? Also, she complained about moving some quilts from the upstairs bedroom to the living room and how this was unacceptable. Well, the kids didn't want to sleep in that room because it had stairs leading up to an attic that was absolutley filled with mouse droppings. Ew! The other thing we got charged for was leaving a bit of food behind. It was wrapped, fresh food. She insinuated that it was unsafe, saying something about Halloween and razor blades that I didn't quite understand. We had used this place every year for the last 4 years and never had a problem. I am sad to say we will never use them again due to the unprofessional attitude of the property manager because they do have some really nice properties. read more

Superior rentals, bayfield - Awesome place to stay but Customer service sucks.. the owner/manager is really rude.. there were 22 adults and 8 children and we rented the Lighthouse and 2 cabins..The 3 days that we stayed there-we enjoyed a lot but after that, we got a call from the owner/manager regarding the damages-a real bad experience. She started yelling through the phone and making real mean comments. She even insulted us based on race - racial discrimination. After a week, she sent us a huge email with all the expenses and damages occurred during our stay.. half of which, we aren't even aware about. One of the kids broke a vase and we informed her immediately. At that moment, she said,"oh, that happens".. but after that, when we reached home, she is trying to make a big scene out of it. The worst part is, She even deducted $227.00 from our credit card without informing us. This is the beginning of the damage, looks like she is gonna send us - Sorry, not send us, take money from our card even without telling us money for carpet cleaning. If you are gonna stay there, please, make sure you read the policy/contract thoroughly. Secondly, walk with her and make a note of all the damages that are already there in the house that also, in front of her so that she doesn't end up, charging all these on your bill.. we learnt from our mistake.. Really unprofessional, unethical behavior from the landlord. read more
