I just bought a beautiful old home that needs a little work. By a little I mean probably $30k…read moreworth. I had my hopes set on getting a Rehab Loan rolled into my mortgage, which means we would need reno estimates before the appraisal and closing. I hit the phones calling contractors once we signed the purchase agreement. I called Sawhorse and they said that we would have to pay them $500 up front just to get a contractor into the home before closing. That's $500 just to show up, let alone give an estimate or do anything. This was the first time I've heard of that fee from a contractor, so I was taken aback, but also desperate. I told them I still wanted to schedule a walk-through, and they said they'd call me back. The woman was not very kind on the phone. Lo and behold they never called me back. I'm a little disappointed but very ok with giving my $30,500 to someone who actually wants it.

Our experience with Sawhorse was terrible. They told us that our projects wouldn't be worth it…read moreunless we were prepared to spend $100,000 in a year. Their representative was extraordinarily condescending. He spent ten minutes explaining what a ruler was and how we could use it to make scale drawings for our project. He also spent a considerable amount of time talking about his decade of experience in building trades and how he'd worked on much nicer homes than ours. This was in 2009, perhaps they've gotten better since then.
