After getting roof replacement quotes from 5 different companies, I decided to go with the second to cheapest option - which was Twin City Roofing. And of course, I got what I paid for. The problems began after I signed the quote and handed over the deposit check. I live next to a day care and young children play outside all of the time. Paul, the project manager that was working with me, suggested they perform all of the work on the 4th of July week since kids likely wouldn't be at the day care then. I arranged with my neighbor to not have kids there that week. A few weeks go by and I didn't hear from Paul or anyone else at TCR. The Friday before the 4th of July week, I reached out to Paul to find out when they would be coming and he said "Next week I believe". Then on Monday when no one arrived, I reached out to Paul again. He responded by saying he was on vacation and that Robert P. in the production office could help. I reached out to Robert and he said "I can tell you it won't be this week." Obviously I was unhappy that the roof wasn't going to be replaced that week but I was more upset with the lack of communication throughout the process. It should not be on the client to have to contact the company multiple times to try to get answers. Nonetheless, when the roofers came to replace the roof on my house, garage and shed, they came unannounced. The concerning issues came from work on the roofs. The shingles on the ridge of my shed transitioned from shingles that are meant to be put on ridges to what look like starter shingles. It is very obvious this is not correct. And on my garage, there is a full 15" of a starter shingle that is literally just hanging from the edge of my roof. How did this get missed?? And the biggest issue is with the flat roofs on my house. I asked all of the appropriate questions to Paul from the outset to make sure that there would be grading on the flat roofs such that all of the water would flow to the spout and drain. Alas, a few days after the work was complete, we got our first rain storm and I saw water pooling along the edges of the flat roof and heavy pooling in one corner. I contacted TCR on July 14th and sent pictures of all of these issues. I didn't get a response so I sent a second email on 7/20. I finally got a response from Tyler and he asked me when would be a good time the following day for him to check out my issues. I responded with a time in the morning. I then didn't hear back from him and he did not show up the next day. I was later contacted by Robert and he said he was working on a game plan on getting my issues addressed. Five days later (7/26), he sent another email saying he would have a game plan the following day and he would let me know. As you can imagine, I did not hear from him on 7/27. I emailed Robert again on 7/28 with no response. Finally on 8/9, Tyler came out to my house to take pictures of my concerns. He agreed that all of them need to be addressed. He said he would let me know soon what the next steps would be. I have not heard from him since. I emailed Robert on 8/16 telling him Tyler came out to my house and that I was looking for more information when the fixes can occur. I have not heard from TCR since - at all. I should have known from the get go something was off because after I gave Paul the deposit check, he asked me to write a good review of his efforts to boost the company. I was certainly not going to write a review for services that had not yet begun. If you do go with TCR, make sure to pay as little as possible up front so they have to come back and fix issues before they get their full payment.

The crews showed up without warning three times, which is dangerous and disruptive for my tenants. They attached my gutters to rotten wood that was supposed to be replaced and left the gutter guards with space so debris can get in. I have never felt so helpless and trapped in a contract with a company that does not communicate about what is to come, what has happened, and what will be. I am not certain or confident that the work has been finished and finished well. They really broke my trust. The stress, anger, and fear that I have felt for the past six months cold never be worth the price.

I was getting several estimates and wasn't able to meet Jake for our initial consult because of traffic, so he did the consult by phone. He even jumped onto the roof and placed temporary patches up so we wouldn't get any more damage if it rained. This was before we had even hired him. After reviewing the packet he left and speaking to Jake on the phone it was a no brainer to choose Gold Star. Our insurance put up many barriers to discourage our claim for weather damage, and Jake carefully explained the process of submitting (and re-submitting) our claim, what questions to ask, and how to follow-up to get the settlement we were entitled to. It took some time, but the insurance eventually paid for replacing the roof. As soon as it was approved, Gold Star ordered the shingles and had it installed within about 10 days. The Gold Star crew arrived at the crack of dawn, worked all day in the hot sun, and did a beautiful job. The crew was incredibly professional and considerate. They did an amazing job of cleaning up before they left, and I never found a single nail or piece of debris in the yard. I was really worried about this because we have kids and pets that could get hurt stepping on nails. I appreciate their attention to detail and the care they took in protecting my home during the construction process. I hired Storm Group back in 2016 (yes, I'm very late in writing a review) to remove an old 2nd…read morestory deck from my house and install new gutters and downspouts on the back of the house. Their bid was higher than the other bid I had gotten, but the sales guy I talked to seemed to know a lot about old houses so I hired Storm Group thinking they would do a good job and be able to deal with any old house issues that might come up. Nobody showed up the first two times they told me they were coming. The third time, one guy showed up by himself to remove the deck and patch the siding around it. I don't think he had much construction experience and he didn't speak much English. He was also supposed to install a railing in front of the door to the deck. The sales guy had told me they needed to this for liability reasons so nobody could fall out the door after the deck was removed. I told him the door had been walled over on the inside of the house, so I wasn't at all concerned about this, but I said it was fine to add a railing if he felt it was needed. The "railing" ended up being 3 2x6's. It looked awful and wasn't even treated wood. What kind of company uses raw wood on the exterior of a house? The were also holes left where the siding hadn't been fully patched. I complained about the "railing" and holes. Storm Group agreed to fix the siding and replace the railing with an actual railing, which would be painted grey to match the house. The same guy came out again to install the new railing, again by himself. I wasn't told in advance when he would be coming, so I was leaving for work as he arrived and wasn't around while he did the work. The new railing wasn't great, it looked like a pretty hasty carpentry job. It was at least painted, although the paint did not match the house and had large drips in places. I had been told that the new railing would be the same size as the old and the same screw holes made in the house for the first railing would be reused. This was not the case. The screw holes from the first railing were left completely open and uncovered. There was also a crack in the siding below the railing where a tool appeared to have been dropped. Storm Group then sent me a bill for for the deck removal and gutter installation. I told them they needed to actually install the gutters before I would pay for that. They seemed surprised to learn that the gutter installation hadn't been done. They gutters were installed the next day, but I wasn't told in advance, so I wasn't home at the time. They were supposed to replace the two gutters on the back of the house, one on the second story roof and one on the back porch. Instead, they replaced one of the gutters on the front of the house and the second story gutter in the back. There are two gutters on the front of the house that had matched before Storm Group. Now they are close, but if you look carefully, they are not the same. The downspout from the back second story gutter was placed so that it emptied onto the back porch roof. I has very specifically told the sales guy that the downspout could not go there because it was a low slope roof that was not in the best condition, and putting a lot of water there was a bad idea. At this point, I was fed up with Storm Group. I proposed that they could keep the half down I had already paid but that I didn't want them to do anymore work on the house and I wouldn't pay the remaining balance since the work had not been completed successfully. They agreed to this. I really should have asked for money back since I think they did more damage than actual work, but I just wanted to be done. The best part was after all this, when I went to move the downspout from the second story gutter to a better location myself. When I removed the downspout, I noticed that it was really dirty inside and had screw holes in a couple of places where there were no screws. And then I realized that it was part of the old downspout that had been on the house before and it had been cut up and reused. I suspect they ran out of materials since they replaced the wrong gutter and part of the downspout in the front of the house. They had charged me by the foot for all new materials for the downspouts, so I was not impressed to find that the old downspout had been reused. Surely somebody must have known that something was wrong at the point where they were cutting up the old downspouts and reattaching them to my house, but nobody from Storm Group ever said a word about any of this to me (and I didn't complain because at that point I just didn't want to deal with them anymore). I would give negative stars if I could.

He will send a Storm Group lien waiver stating liens are satisfied.After several weeks, I got one from the labor contractor. Suggest getting all the contractors listed on your contract before signing- with a statement stating unlisted contractors would be roofer responsibility. 4) Biggest issue - Part of roof did not adhere to the base. It appears the install done in below 40 F temps. Owner claims winds blew off roof. But the pics tell a different story. Don't expect Storm Group to resolve any issues you may have. Will have to replace my entire roof again at twice the cost. Note- If you wish to sail on the Titanic, Storm Group would be your roofer.

I regret hiring them to build a screened in porch…read more The quality of work is poor. Parts of the construction are failing less than two years after construction. The roof already leaks and they say they'll try to fix it if we sign a new contract with them. They say it's ice dams but cannot explain why the leaks occurred when there was neither ice nor snow near the seam they say is leaking. The exterior door repeatedly sagged and could not be opened. They came out to fix the door this summer (after many phone calls over a period of months) and nailed a big plywood board over the screen door to strengthen it - that's the permanent solution. The current door and frame are still both visibly crooked. It looks completely unprofessional and we feel like we're going to need to hire another professional to have the door reframed and replaced. The porch was not built according to the original agreement. We paid for helical screw pilings, but Miller Construction switched to cheaper concrete pilings without any notification, did not offer a refund for the difference in cost, and would not talk to us during construction to discuss the situation despite repeated requests. We paid for insulation throughout the addition, but the building was not framed to allow space for insulation in many sections of the room, so we have an addition that is only partially insulated. The communication with Miller Construction has always been poor. We've had multiple promises to call or come out to look at the various issues, but the promises are rarely kept. For the first few months after contracting with us, communication was so lacking we seriously questioned whether the company had run off with the initial payment. They hadn't, but they didn't reach out to us until months later when a crew showed up at the house unannounced. I wouldn't hire them again.
