6/26/20 This little shop was once on the 3rd floor. The owner found out a new space was opening up and moved down to the second floor. The new location is much bigger than the previous rented space. Like the last time I was here, I liked the Little Mermaid shirt of Ariel. I like how in the shade she is black and white, but in the sunlight she is all colorful. What would be even better is a shirt of Ursula. She is one of my top favorite Disney characters. She maybe the Disney character with the most painful death...this is up for debate. Now, if this store had unisex shirts for women and men, I would have been inclined to buy one or two of these shirts. Especially a Ursula color changing shirt. Sadly, I only walked away buying a 16 inch box chain for my wife. Still, I like this store. read more

Super cute shop with really unique finds. Our favorites were the UV activated hair clips. My daughter had her hair braided and made some sand art which they allowed us to come back at the end of our trip to pick up on our way out of town. Extremely friendly staff and quality service. Was a fun visit! read more

The woman who did my henna respectfully had no idea what she was doing. It was not her fault but the store needs to be responsible for assigning qualified people to do their job, as people are paying up to $80 for the henna. My mom saw that my henna piece was not looking right so she asked a more experienced person to take a look. When this worker was asked, her response was very rude and dismissive. The owner of the store was nice and her husband tried to fix the henna but it was a lost cause. read more

Not impressed. We decided to make sand imprints for $20 each, which was supposed to be a activity for kids but fell short. The owner asked my kids to pick 20 shells, place them in the sand, and then told us to come back in an hour to pick up our artwork. The part of the activity my kids got to do took less than 5 minutes and wasn't entertaining at all. The manager really did most of the work, by mixing and pouring the plaster, adding the hooks, and letting it set. How is this an activity for kids when you send the, away while you do all the work?!?! read more

Do not recommend. Extremely overpriced and the children's sand art activity is very limited as the staff do most of the craft. The young girls working there are very sweet but the manager is very rude and overbearing. It's a shame because if the prices were more reasonable and the crafts more interactive for the children it would be an awesome place-of course with a different manager. read more

This shop is so much fun! The owner was working and was having a blast showing us all their great, sun reactive, product. This is great stuff for playing in the beach sun. From t-shirts to nail polish, to flip flops and keychains you couldn't ask for a better place to find a unique gift to take back home to friends or co-workers! It's great location and friendly-fun atmosphere will make this the first stop in town and last on the way out. I can't recommend Life on a Sandbar high enough. Check it out while you're there! Was okay, although expected more to be honest. My wife and I enjoyed the final products, but did not feel the customer service to be that friendly and could have been better with small children. You also do not really get to do that much, so you may need to plan an activity in between when you go and do it and when it's finished, which was also a bit odd, but makes sense in a way. Had fun as a one-time activity, but would not be worthwhile to do again in my opinion. read more

Poor customer service. Waited about 30 min to be told they were too busy and shorthanded to do sand art. Was very disappointed. If they saw a long line of waiting customers, they should've asked who was waiting for braids/henna and who was waiting for sand art and explained the situation instead of leaving customers to wait and then be told to come back later. We have visited life on a sandbar every year for the last 3 years and we love all the unique gifts. The fun temporary tattoos, hair wraps and braiding are my daughters favorite. The sand art is a great keepsake. My daughter always looks forward to going each year for hair braiding and sand art! read more

I love this store!!! Great products and service. The girls that did my daughters hairwrap were super friendly. My son even got a spray on tattoo and it lasted for our entire vacation. We also made some sand art to take home as a souvenir. What a fun place to bring your kids!!! read more

We love this place for kids and teens! Nifty del sol tee shirts in different styles and sizes, great casual jewelry for the girls and older one. My 9 and 12 year olds are endlessly fascinated here - a great place to take them anytime, but especially on late afternoons and before the beach mornings. Rainy days for sure. Hairstyles and sand-cement casts too, the latter is fun to have as a forever momento but be careful in packing, it's heavy. read more

Del Sol and Disney products. Quality hair breading and fun activities with the kids that bring home memories for years to come. The quality of clothing, which change colors when exposed to the sun (how fun is that!!) is as expected from Del Sol and Disney. I purchased color changing nail polish and my nails have never looked better (my husband thought I had them done professionally). I also got some jewelry which is very reasonably priced. If you are looking for a gift for yourself or a friend you will find it there. It is worth a visit for sure. Loved the store and the fun and helpful staff. I was surprised by the diversity of items. Kids activities are really fun here. We especially enjoyed the Sand Art creations with mermaids, Pirates and dolphins. Henna tattoos were really good too. They even had pirate swords the boys could decorate. I think the girls were very friendly and helpful. Be sure to stop when you get to OBX. read more

Well I have learned my lesson. Means a friend visited life on the sandbar so I could get corn rows and she wanted a feather in her hair. We got there, waited for 15 minutes while the manager did absolutely NOTHING then we both paid the outrageous prices and waited half an hour until the manager finally looked up from her computer and completed the 5 minute task of putting a feather in me friends hair. But I still had to get me corn rows, and apparently the manager is incapable of doing 4 cornrows. If she can't do something that simple she doesn't need to be a manager. Then 4 days later my friend and I returned for henna tattoos in hopes of improvement, we waited 30 minutes again after paying and we were given specific instructions which we followed exactly, we let the tattoos dry and didn't peel them off for 5 hours and didn't get them wet for 24 hours. Three days later, the henna tattoo that I paid $30 for is barely visible and my friend's looks like a really weird tan line. read more

I am giving this establishment 1 star because we were lied to and they ate overpriced. While on vacation, my friends and family got henna tattoos and were told that the henna would stay for at least two weeks. We followed all the directions given to us and even left ths dye on longer than the minimum! The dye, which was supposed to be black, was brown and faded almost immediately. You could only tell that they we're tattoos for a day. Also, the "artists" were very sloppy. We decided to complain to the owner and ask for a refund who then said that they do not offer refunds. We then pointed out that there was no sign showing that they didn't refunds which supposedly was "taken down" earlier in the day. After that ordeal, he refunded us what was supposed to be half. Doing the math later, it was not. They charge so much for such a small henna. A spider that was stenciled on then traced over looked like a half squashed jelly bean and they wanted 20$ for it. I am extremely irritated by this event and will never be paying for their services again. read more

I was really looking forward to getting a hair wrap, henna, and creating some sand art on my first OBX vacation. Yelp and Trip Advisor both had the hours listed as 9pm today. I pulled up at 5 and the staff was locking up and leaving. I was so disappointed - it was the one touristy thing I wanted to do and I saved it for our last day here. A business owner should list the correct hours on these sites. I guess I should be glad I saved the money I would have spent. read more

Staff was very friendly and helpful in suggesting great choices for our hair and henna tattoos. I got cornrows and special shout out to the cornrow girl for doing such a good job!
