Fortunately, I did not provide them with the access code to claim the funds when they asked me to do it (a word of advice to fellow bike-to-work scheme users: NEVER share the code with this guys unless you confirm the bike's availability in the store). I was told that the bike would be ready in a week and paid a €50 deposit, which was supposed to be refunded once I shared the access code. Advice to other customers: I would never trust again their word about "having the bike in the warehouse", but if you still do and pay the deposit, ask for a receipt the moment you pay it. I did it, and they said they'd send it by email. That email never got to my inbox, so now I can't claim anything) Fast forward two months, and I found myself making countless calls and receiving nothing but false promises. Each time I inquired about the bike, they assured me that they had contacted the warehouse and guaranteed the bike's availability within the next two weeks. However, when those two weeks passed, I called again, only to be presented with yet another excuse, prolonging my wait by an additional two weeks. Frustrated by their lack of transparency and poor service, I decided to cancel my order and requested a refund of my deposit. They instructed me to "contact their orders department via email." Despite my numerous attempts to reach out and request the return of my deposit, they have remained unresponsive. It's disappointing to feel that my €50 deposit has been completely disregarded. I'd avise others to be cautious when dealing with this store.

A brief explanation: I left my bike locked outside for 4 nights in early December and someone messed it up, so I brought it in for repair to another bike shop (OK, I won't say where) on 11th Dec 2024. I was told they ordered the parts for me (a hanger). Not getting any phone call updates which I was supposed to get I rang them twice, once in early Jan and then on Tue 21st Jan. The order was on the way, to arrive at the end of the month/beginning of February. I've already been waiting close to 6 weeks!!!! and couldn't wait any longer. Pretty poor service. So I decided to bring the bike somewhere else. My friend recommended Bolton Cycles - and here's the beautiful story: I rang the owner at 12 noon Wed 22nd Jan and explained the situation. He said 'Bring it in, I'll have the part and fix it.' The guys had the bike ready for me the very next day!!! Not only did they replace the broken part but also repaired the brakes and tightened the rather loose chain which gave me trouble numerous times. BOLTON CYCLES, You have a life customer in me now!!! Well, I've been a regular customer of Bolton Cycles for the last 5 years now, and would solidly recommend these blokes. I just recently got a second hand "GIANT" racer off of them, which was originally worth about 850 brand new and they gave it to me for 320, one year old but post-overhaul....and they let me trade in my previous bike which i had bought off of them and they knocked off 110 (a bit less than half of what i paid originally, but it was 4 years old)....so i was laughing! Also, I went back to them twice to tune up a few things on it, things that they probably should have charged for, and they didn't. If you're friendly to them and show customer loyalty, they will throw things in when they are making a sale and their prices for flat repairs, buckle repairs, brakes and gear jobs are all fairly decent. They also will sort you out with a 6 month guarantee, even on second hand bikes, so it's not a case of "buyer beware" like it would be if you tried to get a bike in that bike yard on Ryder's Row. Sure, it's not the nicest place to hang out, you can barely move around once you get inside because it is literally wall-to-wall bikes all over the gaff, but they make up for it with a decent service. (NOTE - they don't accept cards....get the cash from the Centra just 5 doors down).

On the other hand the quality of the bicycles is good and the service for selling them is spot on!. I got a really good advice for the three bicycles i bought for my kids and I am very happy with what I ended up with. I went to check out few places and prices and the decision for Cycleways was with no doubt. The Bike Institute's location is very convenient for me as I live in Ashtown and it's fairly easy to get there. If you search for the shop on google maps, it won't take you to the right place, which was one of the things I first struggled with. But I gave them a ring and they kindly directed me to the actual location. For starters, the staff there is very friendly and were incredibly helpful. It was my first time there and I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me anything I didn't need or were pushy in any way. As I only own a bike and literally ride it everywhere, I dropped it off first thing in the morning and asked if I could pick it up by the end of the day and the staff member confidently told me it'd be done before that. I was pleasantly surprised, as most bike shops don't have such a fast turnover! And that was a huuuuuge PLUS for me! However, just because it's a fast turnover, don't be fooled: the quality of the service was superb. My bike is smooth as butter now. So it's safe to say I am very happy with the service they provided! It should get me through the winter and once the winter is over, you can be sure I will drop by again to get the premium service for the summer days Thank you again to all the staff for a great experience! I don't know if the dog hypnotised me or what, but my new bike is awesome & my commute to work is quicker & more enjoyable. Highly recommended whether you need a puncture repair, second-hand bike or (in my case) a hassle-free bike-to-work scheme package.

They're constantly…read morecheaper than the bike shop close to my work, they tell you upfront how much everything costs, bike service is cheap there and they tell you exactly when it will be ready (when you bring it in at four in the afternoon they say with a sad face "it will be only tomorrow though"). The guys are super-friendly and professional, and I don't feel like a stupid person who can't repair his own bike (although I am) when I go in here.

But one person stole it because when I came back to use the bike it wasn't there and the race kept running in the app. The support service is terrible, they were always busy, I sent emails that were not answered, and even if someone stole it from me and I had the key, they wanted to charge me a fee of 150 euros. I opened a case with the police, so that they can help me, since the service itself has been very negligent with the customer who always uses it. My dissatisfaction remains here, and I hope it will be resolved because so far it has not been found and I have not been told any satisfaction.

Dublin was always the exception, I think we were all of the opinion that the bikes would be nicked or damaged and that would be worse than not having them at all. Happily the vandalism issue seems to have been addressed in the form of lots of clever security tricks and we now have dublinbikes - a service spanning most of the city with drop points/bike racks scattered all over the place (there are 40 of them). The bikes themselves have built-in lights and locks and are really a great addition to the city. You have to pre register to use them and part with precious credit card details etc... so it is not something you can use on a whim (well, the first time anyway). However, once you are registered (on the website above) you are free to roam the city as quickly as you like. Cycle helmets are not provided but I would strongly advise you buy one and just have it with you on the days you think it likely you are going to use the bikes!

This is the best idea i have come across in 2009…read more I visited Rothar during the summer in search of a bicycle, now Phibsboro is a long trek for me from Dundrum, its all the way across the other side of the city, I didnt buy a bike but it was worth it to see this operation. You should look at their website to try and get the full flavour of rothar but i will try and describe it to you here. Basically it is a community project that gathers abandoned and donated bicycles from around the city, the people there then do up the bicycles and then sell them on at a really cheap price, about €90 for your average bike. They also conduct classes on maintaining your bicycle and they provide workshop spaces where you can repair your own bike with their tools and get advice on how to fix whatever is wrong. Since i was there they have changed premises and that can only be good. I spent ages walking around phibsboro with my boyfriend trying to find this "shop" in an area i have never been in before, we ended up down a tiny little lane where there were loads of kids playing. It was there we found what i can only describe as a tiny garage with a man in dreds surrounded by bicycles and bike parts. He confirmed that we had found Rothar but unortunately there were not any proper bikes ready to take away. The workshop is bigger and better now but as far as i can see these guys are in real need of bicycles to keep this operation going so as well as giving Rothar a big thumbs up i am sending an encouraging message out to anyone who reads this, if you have an old bike lying around or if you know someone who is throwing one out, think of these guys before you donate your bike to a skip! Oh and just incase you dont speak Irish, Rothar is the Irish for Bicycle and it's pronounced " ruh-har" if you can read my attempt at spelling phonetically!

I've had a lot of work done on my bike there which they did in 24 hours only !! and since then, no bother As a community project, they won an entrepreneur award (can't remember which one that was) which means they really know what they re doing and are really committed to the project. Instead I get the borderline psychologically scarring image of a 6 ft. 2 clown popping into my mind's eye every time I walk up Wexford street. I've only ever bought a lock here, but I pop in from time to time to see their offers on second hand bikes and the staff are always really nice. BIKE TREK. Now that's a title.
