While my experience with Dr. Lichtiger was okay (he answered my questions and seemed knowledge about GI complaints), his head clerk was extremely rude and heavy-handed regarding $$.
I went to see Dr Lichtiger to get a second opinion for what turned out to be IBS due to certain food intolerances. Even though he didn't take my insurance (sounds like he doesn't take very many), it was worth it to me to get a second opinion. At the end of my first visit, I left my stuff (a laptop and huge red handbag on the sofa) while I attempted to step away to make a call. I didn't get far when the clerk asked me where I was going in the rudest most obnoxious tone you never want to hear in a professional setting, much less a medical one.
My second visit was a colonoscopy to confirm there was nothing serious going on. Instead of requiring I pay thousand$ up front for the procedure Dr Lichtiger agreed to bill United Healthcare and I would pay the remainder. Since no payment was due from me then my hubby and I left (me in my groggy state) and was hailing a passing cab when she came out screaming for me to get back in the office!!! When I did I got the doctor to confirm for her our agreement and he stepped away. That should have been the end of it (for now anyway) but she wanted to know what I was going to put down today. Put down?? Really? I told her I would wait until I get my patient responsibility from my insurer and left. When about 2 weeks later they got partial payment from UHC, this clerk phoned me to tell me a bill was being sent in the mail and the amount that was due. I just paid her over the phone there and then with a credit card. So after roughly $800 out of pocket to see this doctor, I never returned for the diagnosis or follow up. My first doctor (and Doctor Google hah!) helped me figure out what I had and what foods I need to limit or avoid.
Seriously...can we please remember that we're in the medical field. read more
