Dr Levine is amazing. I came from Western Canada to see her, and she has been more helpful than any specialist or doctor I have ever met before. She is up to date on all the newest research. She is kind and interested in your experience of M.E. Helen, who works as her aid and nurse, is a GEM of a human. I've felt respected & cared for each time I've come to the office. Perhaps most importantly, she did really thorough bloodwork, found a lot of things in the testing that no one had ever looked for and which explain a lot of what I'm going through, and she had prescribed me medications which should help alleviate my symptoms! would highly recommend for people with M.E. read more

Boy, oh boy. This Dr. was recommended by someone because she had successfully treated her EBV virus. Up front, I have numerous health issues, but don't think it is very unusual compared to many of her patients. I mean, if you have Chronic EBV, you are going to have other issues, as well. Dr Levine has all the academic credentials you could ever want, but she is disorganized, forgetful, and dismissive. She missed appointments. Came to appointments without labs which were already posted, and frankly gas-lighted me. For me, she was a disaster. read more

Avoid at all costs. This doctor increased my stress levels immensely and didn't provide treatment. She is wildly disorganized, does not have a reservation system in place at all and simply sends you a day and time to show up and if you can't make it because you might have a job or a child or any other thing she does not reschedule. She pulls labs wrong and called in wrong prescriptions and took a month to fix the first and never fixed the second. Having her as my doctor delayed my treatment by many months. It was the worst medical experience I've had and that says a lot when people are coming in with a chronic illness. read more

Dr.Levine is one of the best drs I have come across in my 60 years of life. She actually saved my life when other drs said my cough was from acid reflux. Dr. Levine invested further and found out it was a certain bacterial infection. I saw some of the negative reviews and they don't IMO reflect who Dr. Levine is or how incredibly smart she is. With most practices being like a factory and impersonal, it's nice to have a dr who is "old fashioned " . Highly recommend especially for CFS and now long covid. Agree with many on here. She is not very personable, terrible bedside manner and doesn't make up for it with talent or expertise. She faves some of her patients, and the others get lost in the shuffle. She'll even tell them off, or tell them not to come back. She ran tons of tests years back, paid for by the patient, as she collected data to try to justify her specialty. If she found something she didn't find interesting (if she even read all the results for the tests she ordered at all), she ignored it. Such as positive lyme diagnosis among patients she diagnosed with CFS. Good luck getting treatment for lyme, a decade too late because she missed RESULTS SHE ORDERED. read more

After it was suggested that I may have ME/CFS, I was given no guidance on treatment. Through a search, I found Dr. Levine. She listened to me and confirmed the diagnosis of ME/CFS when other dr's said everything was fine. I def was not fine!! I don't know how Dr. Levine does it, patients, research and runs a practice. She has always been prompt to respond. Her care and treatment literally saved my life. As a self-pay patient without insurance, I found her rates very reasonable. read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other negative reviews here. I saw Dr. Levine a few times. She doesn't have much support staff (or any?) so there were a few issues with appointments and insurance, though not a big deal. My bigger issue was when we had a phone appointment during the pandemic, because I was unable to renew my prescription without an appointment. She was not reachable at our scheduled time. I get that things come up, but when she finally called me back a while later, it was just to acknowledge that she'd missed my call and tell me that she'd renew my prescription. We spoke for less than 10 seconds, she didn't ask me any questions, and she still charged me as if it had been a normal in-office visit. Put off by this experience, and realizing that telephonic visits weren't going to be very useful, I didn't schedule an appointment for a while. But after I had covid, my fatigue worsened. With in-person visits possible again, I scheduled an appointment. I asked her to remind me of her fee and insurance coverage, which for some reason she seemed to take offense to, because she responded by telling me she had canceled my appointment and would simply give me a list of some supplements to try. I followed up four times, requesting the list of supplements and suggesting I'd be happy to come in for an appointment instead, and after ignoring my emails for months, she finally responded with a curt, "don't have time." That was all the email said. I have never been treated by any health professional in such a rude and unprofessional manner and cannot recommend her. read more

Dr. Levine is one of the few doctors in the country that treats ME/CFS. I was diagnosed in 2003 by a brilliant infectious disease doctor who is no longer in practice. I had been empowered by my first doctor who knew as much as was known at the time. Since 2006 I had been flying solo with doctors who knew far less about ME/CFS than I did. Seeing her in 2018 was like arriving home. The testing she did revealed much as to what was going on with this complex disease. Her dedication and knowledge of all the latest research is a blessing. For those who have complained about reception not being warm & fuzzy... shame, shame. It is the quality of Dr. Levine's compassion, her brilliance and unparalleled dedication that counts. Dr. Levine is lovely. And for the first few appointments she is very helpful and present. It was such a relief to find a doctor that knew about and treated CFS and knew which blood tests to run, etc. If you are looking for an initial diagnosis and someone to help you figure out what on earth is going on - she's the one to turn to. But...once you're diagnosis is complete, the care portion of things starts to go down hill. As with many people with CFS, my health issues are complex. I have felt a bit like I'm in charge of my own treatment and health for the past year of going here. Which is somewhat ok because in the end - you're going this alone whether you'd like to think so or not. BUT in a perfect world I would like to feel like I didn't have to chase her office around for information / assistance / updates. She is very very helpful but you have to direct her on what you would like to do - which I guess can be a good thing and a bad thing depending on what you need. My biggest complaint is the front desk. It certainly seems like this woman hates her job and really wants you to know it. I've never seen this woman smile or had her make eye contact with me. I think that Dr. Levine is just too passive to fire her and get someone in there who doesn't make you feel horrible about yourself for bothering to walk through the door. Opening the blinds into the waiting room might help - get this woman some vitamin D! read more

She is not only rude and hateful, she is not a good doctor. I am very personable and respectful, but she found a reason to not like me. She hung up on me but just before that she said "don't come back." I can tell you there was no good reason. I was asking a staff member a clarifying question on her prescribed medicine. Her office and she made a mess of the lab report which had to be corrected while at the lab. The lab could not understand what was written. Dr. Levine had prescribed medicine for which she was happy to just disconnect in an angry grab of the phone from her receptionist and not be a responsible practitioner to resolve. I would say she's got some "issues" and I seriously would warn people about this. read more

The word amazing is not accurate enough. As a physician she is wonderful. As a researcher, she is super active in studies. So she is the best you can have for an illness like CFS/ME where there is no perfect solution or cure and you need to be up on the latest research. I don't know how she does it. She is competent beyond belief. She is very responsive. She is compassionate while to the point. She communicates with her patients directly and concisely and sometimes floors me at the times she replies. She is open and supportive of her patients trying different things and tells you what experience she has and if she doesn't know of it, she doesn't stop you from exploring. I've never felt judged and I know many people with CFS/ME try so many different things that sometimes we seem a little desperate for a cure. However, she tries everything she can, never just resting on your case or one treatment, and she is always providing her patients with the latest in research she has become aware of, or in her case, been part of. She is busy and despite that I get more timely replies and support from her than any huge practice. Apparently there is someone here creating repeat posts that has a problem with her but I don't see where they are coming from and cannot relate nor anyone I've known. I've known several people who have seen her and she does not diagnose everyone the same and even has made sure she isn't putting people into the same box because they came to her. People from all over the country come to see her. I do a 3 hour trip each way each time and she is worth every minute. She's been a godsend since she accurately diagnosed me in 2005 after being misdiagnosed for 4 years. read more

I think Dr Levine is one of the best doctors. She is a board certified allergist and internist. She is in the forefront of research for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME & Fibromyalgia. I have been one of her patients for years & years & her diagnosis' have been so accurate- she's impressively smart and truly wants to help her patients and is so very kind. I feel so lucky- & grateful- that Dr Levine is around. She also works with Medicare & many different insurances. When I made a phone appt to get my test results, she came on the phone and snapped at me, telling me she didn't have them in front of her. Dr. Levine has been very helpful in alleviating some of my symptoms. I'm not even sure I have CFS but I have some of its symptoms. I see her fairly regularly and she's constantly trying new things. She's quite fair with her charges as she does not take my insurance. For the person who criticized her office staff, I have to disagree. They have been cordial and efficient with me. Dr. Levine has been my doctor since 1991. I was going crazy at age 27 with not feeling myself w/ exhaustion, painful joints, migraines swollen glands to name a few. Why I was I so sick and so tired? I felt like I was in quick sand. I would work all day and go home sleep at 5 and start again at 7am. Weekends no one saw me because I was sound asleep all 2 days. I saw 14 doctors after getting shringles and EBV that never went away so young. All said "it was in my head!!" even though I just got married, came home from a month in Europe, loved my new home and husband and was ready to have a baby working 2 jobs and on the board of my new home association. You know TYPE A person who are the ones who come down with CFS. Finally, I saw Dr. Levine 1/2 a sleep, in a rag doll state and she ran tests (all came back positive) but she knew I had CFS right on the spot. She had such compassion and gave she gave me hope. I thought I would never have a child with this disease that robbed me of my youth and dreams and it took years but she said "she felt the baby would be fine" and watch over me during that 9 mths. My husband got sick with another auto immune disease which stole his life and we lost our home and he was on disability for 3 years. We had thousands in dr. bills from surgeries, etc. All the time Dr. Levine being there for both of us and truly caring. Now I travel over 90 miles to see her from another state. Fortunately, I can bring home medication and an EMS friend gives it to me but if I didn't have Dr. Levine, I think I would of given up years ago. I have it still although at age 56 it isn't as bad all the time as in the beginning. But when I get it really bad from being over stressed or sick I can stay in bed for months. Winter it is always the worst. CFS has destroyed my thyroid and other serious medical issues BUT when you have a doctor who BELIEVES YOU...it makes a world of difference on how you will respond and heal to this disease. She still is giving me HOPE and I can never thank her enough for her kindness, her brilliant mind and her continuous search to find an answer. read more

This woman is one of the most unhelpful and unkind doctors I have ever come into contact with. Aside from writing completely unclear treatment recommendations that she wouldn't explain further, she was callous, rude, and fired me as a patient after only meeting me once. She took bloodwork during my appointment, and then when I called to get the results sent to me, she said I had to come back into the office to get them. I said--given that I am mostly bedridden from severe CFS, autoimmune disease, and neurological conditions--that it would be much easier to have them faxed over. She screamed at me and said she is "running a business" and needs to bill me for an appointment. Needless to say, I stopped seeing her after that. Years later, I tried to make a follow-up appt to gather some information from her regarding treatment options (she is very connected in the CFS world), she never called me back. When I e-mailed her about it very kindly, her response was "not to email her." She seems very unbalanced and disinterested in patient's suffering. I've had CFS since 1987 and had been seen by other doctors and been treated for it. The end of 2004 I came down with my 3rd exacerbation of bad symptoms that necessitated me going on short term disability from my job again ... I changed doctors then to Dr. Levine because I wasn't happy with the one I had been seeing. Dr. Levine is great, knows her stuff about this illness, does not over medicate, is caring and helpful. Dr. Levine is the first doctor in almost 40 years that has given me some hope relative to discerning my problems. After taking a history, she was experienced and able enough to request the appropriate blood tests to determine a course of treatment. I have lived with pain most of my adult life and in the last 10-15 years have endured lack of stamina that has impacted my life significantly. She is very good about talking over phone or email if you have a question. She has helped a number of teens (which I am not) relative to getting their lives back on track. Most family practice and internists or rheumatologists do not have the background or the research experience to identify or even begin to comprehend what is happening when a person has CSF, Fibro, or some other immuno-expressive syndrome. As I do my own research into my condition, she is open to trying new avenues to lessen pain, fatigue and the inability to concentrate. She has even been very patient with my DE insurance that has some peculiar requirements. I am very grateful for the service that she has provided to date. Some have mentioned her office staff. It is somewhat spartan albeit in a very pricey area of NYC. She has her own phlebotomist who was a little rough and I tend to use the local labs here in DE as a result. I do know she has made an impact on my condition as well as others that I know and believe that she would be well worth your effort to contact if you have symptoms of CSF, Fibro, malaise, lack of stamina, lack of mental focus or brain fog, etc. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Susan Levine since 1995. When I first saw her I was basically bedridden with Twins that were about 2 years old. Not one doctor could help me, just basically get some rest because you test positive for Epstein Barr Virus. I finally was being evaluated by a doctor who was a colleague of Dr. Susan Levine and sent me to her office, Thank God. Dr. Susan Levine was an angel who got me to enjoy life again and also got me on my feet. She was very compassionate, understanding and does everything to help you. I had to go on disability because I could no longer work. She helped me with that and referred a lawyer. It's over 20 years now that I go to Dr. Susan Levine. I have many medical conditions but she never gives up on me and always helps me. I have good and bad days and people who suffer with CFS can understand this. I just want to say whoever criticized Dr. Levine and her staff, I must say, I disagree. Dr. Susan Levine is always there to help me and so is the staff who are lovely too. Listen no one is perfect and we all have our moments and they are people just like us. This office can get extremely busy and we need to be patient too. I graduated from college in the mid 80's. I was diagnose with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the 1990's... but before they used that diagnosis they used to call it Epstein Barr Syndrome. Originally, i got sick in May of 1988 in the prime of my life. I was under a lot of stress for years and my immune system gave out. It even affected my nervous system. Initially doctors thought I might have Lyme's Disease. One doctor told me I was crazy because she could not figure out what was physically wrong with me. (So when in doubt, blame the patient). Another doctor a Hematologist looked at my blood under a dark field microscope and it was obvious something was going on as my red blood cells were all clustering together trying to steal oxygen molecules from each other. But there was a couple years where no one else can help me cause they couldn't figure what was going on. Later the CFS and Fibromyalgia diagnosis was made and it was Dr. Levine who was very understanding of the vast number of symptoms I had (Over 35 symptoms). I first saw her in the mid 90's. I had one of the worse cases she had seen and I tried to work for about 10 years. But I was doing unconventional stuff like giving myself shots of vitamin complex (which I think the FDA or AMA doesn't like people doing and have tried to micro manage alternative treatments) while at my part time technician job. My job evaluations were bad because I could not remember a lot of stuff with memory problems. The fatigue and sleep issue made it nearly impossible to get out of bed every day at 6AM. Luckily I was engaged and the incentive to get married was my main motivation that made me literally roll off my bed to fall on the floor to wake up. But who was I kidding? My fiancee's family was against her marrying me (because of my illness) and eventually their influence and disability took a toll on our engagement and we broke up. But had not Dr. Levine not helped me to document my disabilty I would of been one of those people living under a train track somewhere or probably dead by now.
