He was very attentive and made sure I understood everything he was describing regarding my hip injury, taking extra time to explain to me and my parents over the phone. Dr. Bharam told me all my options but recommended that I have surgery as soon as I could in order to fix my torn labrum and hip impingement. This was a non-invasive procedure and I felt that I was in good hands. Him and all the staff, both in his office and the operating room, made me feel comfortable and much less nervous. I really appreciate the level of care Dr. Bharam took with my injury and he recommended me to a physical therapist he often works with, who took all of the details Dr. Bharam gave him to create an amazing recovery plan for me. I am thankful to both Dr. Bharam and Kevin Kay for helping me get better in time to play my very last season of Division III volleyball. I would recommend Dr. Bharam to other athletes dealing with hip injuries as I had a very good experience. He is definitely a doctor who will take the time to answer all of your questions.

Yesterday,…read more1-08-20 I returned to work by driving myself and walking without any assistance from a medical device or person. HSS is #1 for a reason and I'm privileged to have been able to partake in their available knowledge and skill. I'd always heard it was a bit like a "factory" being there but i very much disagree unless that means "the trains always run on time." From security to the nursing assistants, check in staff, waiting room, anethesiologist (Dr. Nigel _?__, nurses, surgeon (Dr. Boettner), I have nothing but praise. However I chose to write today because of the 1 star review posted by "Dr. D." Dr. D who wrote the 1 star review is a lucky man indeed to have gone 40 years without ever having experienced what he saw as "grossly inappropriate behavior" on the part of Dr. Boettner and his staff. I have to say I'd be pretty annoyed to receive a call back at 10:15 PM (since I go to bed at 10) to listen to a complaint about my administrative assistants not being clear as to the type of X-ray to be sent. In fact when I had my X-rays done (not through HSS) I was frustrated because Dr. Boettner's office kept saying they had not arrived and the radiology dept kept saying they had already sent it. After three times of asking them to send again I went back to the radiology office myself and asked if i couldn't have a CD for myself so I could send it or bring it in. It was at that point when I learned they indeed never had sent in the CD of the X-rays but rather the report the radiologist had written which is not what I ever asked for. They supplied me the CD then and there and I left. Where the fault lies I don't know. I don't care I just want things remedied as quickly as possible. Perhaps there was a mix-up in communication regarding reports and CD's for Dr. D. Just as camera's no longer use film, I believe x-ray technology has moved away from it as well so asking for "film" X-rays would have probably been absurd. Anyway, stuff happens. Everyone is working three times harder with less and for less. No one has to be rude but it seems a mix-up over the type of X-rays you needed, to the point of going to the Surgeon for help or to complain about the confusion could also be seen as rude and intrusive.

I have never met Dr. Friedrich Boettner. This review is based upon telephone conversations with the…read moreDoctor and two members of his office staff. The calls were made in order to set up an appointment. It turned out that, as a result of these conversations, I decided not to see Dr. Boettner, and gave him one star. Over the preceding ten months, I had been evaluated and treated for hip and knee pain by two orthopedic surgeons. Both diagnosed my condition as osteoarthritis. Recently, I decided to seek a another opinion. Dr. Boettner was recommended by a family friend. I went online and looked at a large number of his ratings and reviews, including 17 on Google. Almost all raters and reviewers gave him five stars. On October 2, 2019, I called Dr. Boettner's office. The woman (referred to as "A" below) who answered the phone spoke in a flat, detached and somewhat unwelcoming tone. She informed me that, prior to making an appointment, I would need to answer a number of questions in order for Dr. Boettner to decide whether he would accept me as a patient. Once the questions were answered, "A" said that, in addition to my responses, the doctor would have to see prior x-rays documenting my condition. This was where things began to go wrong. Just to be certain, I asked "A" whether a CD containing the x-ray images would be acceptable. (A CD is the customary medium via which such images are shared between physicians). I was told that a CD was not acceptable. I was puzzled by this response, so I asked "A" whether she meant that I had to send the actual x-ray film. She replied in the affirmative. I then called one of the orthopedists who had previously evaluated me and spoke with a member of the doctor's administrative staff. I told her what "A" had said, and she expressed surprise because, to her knowledge, x-ray studies were almost always sent via CD. I called Dr. Boettner's office and left a voicemail. Late the next morning, since I had not received a return call, I called the office again and spoke with someone other than "A". I shall refer to her as "B". I explained the reason for my call. After telling "B" the outcome of the previous day's conversation with "A", she informed me that I could, in fact, send my X-rays via CD. In view of the lack of clear, unambiguous agreement between "A" and "B" with respect to what Dr. Boettner required, I felt the need to speak with him directly. I asked "B" if I could do so. She told me that the doctor was not available. I then told "B" that I would like to leave him a message. "B" asked me what the message was about. I gave her a very general answer. She replied that this was inadequate and that I needed to be more specific. I was becoming frustrated and annoyed by this intrusive "interrogation". So, in an attempt to provide another reason for my needing to speak with Dr. Boettner, I told "B" that I was reluctant to divulge potentially sensitive medical information over the phone. "B", sounding somewhat confused, put me on hold. A few minutes later, "A" came on the phone. She asked me what the problem was and I explained it. After some more back-and-forth, she reluctantly stated that she would give my message to Dr Boettner. On the following day, October 3, 2019, I received a call from Dr. Boettner at 9:53 P.M. I was busy at the time and did not answer. I called him back at 1017 PM. Dr. Boettner answered the phone in a gruff, irritated tone of voice. I began to state my concerns about his office staff's apparent confusion regarding the format in which he wished X-rays to be sent to him. He interrupted me in mid-sentence and appeared about to lose his temper. Raising his voice, he stated loudly and angrily that I was wasting his time with "administrative" issues. I was shocked and completely taken aback his grossly inappropriate behavior and informed him that I would not be using his services. He acknowledged this statement gruffly and terminated the call. I am a Doctor of Medicine, Board-certified in a specialty other than Dr. Boettner's. I have been in practice for forty years and can't recall ever being treated in such an egregiously rude, disrespectful and abusive manner by a fellow physician.

I initially went to MSK, where I was given an incredibly scary prognosis and was told things that completely changed the course of what I thought was going to happen. I was told my cancer was stage IV and that surgery was not the right option at that time. I left feeling completely devastated and unsure of what my future would look like, especially with a newborn baby at home. Then I found Dr. Rivadeneira From the very beginning, he treated me like a person, not just a cancer diagnosis. He took the time to look at my case, review everything carefully, and actually listen to my concerns. What meant even more to me was how much he genuinely cared. He even called me personally while he was on vacation to discuss my case. I will never forget that. He ultimately gave me hope when I desperately needed it and believed that surgery was worth pursuing. He performed my colon resection, and today I am cancer-free and continuing treatment with the goal of putting this chapter behind me for good. I truly believe Dr. Rivadeneira saved my life. As a 34-year-old new mom, I had so much to lose and so much to fight for. My son was born just weeks before I was diagnosed, and being able to come home to him after surgery and continue being his mother is something I will never take for granted. There are doctors who are good at what they do, and then there are doctors who change the entire course of someone's life. Dr. Rivadeneira is the latter. I will forever be grateful that I found him when I did. Thank you for giving me a chance to be here for my son.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hosny's for about 3 or 4 years. I have arthritis in my neck and shoulder. The trigger point injections he and Dr. Vivek Mehta administered saved me. They have allowed me to have a normal, functional life. Last January I had a very bad pain that went from my back through to my chest. It was so severe, I went to Lenox Hill ER, to make sure I was not having a heart attack. 11 hours later, they determined it was muscular in nature. I was in excruciating pain. I wrote Dr. Hosny an e-mail to see if they could evaluate me. He promptly wrote me back, from home (think he was on paternity leave), and said, Yes, no problem. I wasn't sure if my new insurance would cover the injections, if they decided to give them to me. He said I could self-pay, and charged me less than half what they get from the insurance company. Josephine Muston, MS, FNP-C gave me the injections in my back. I was better that very day. I believe that Dr. Hosny is trying to distract you from being afraid when he talks about light hearted things, like movies... I found all of his staff very warm and extremely accomadating. From Maria and Chris, in reception, to the anesthesiologist who worked with me when I was first having injections, to the nurse, Drs. and Tracy who takes care of me post injection. I highly recommend this group.

I believe that initially, about 2 years ago, I did have to wait for my first appointment, but nothing out of the ordinary for a NYC doctor. They took an x-ray and the doctor was able to show me the thinning cartilage, and said I would need a total hip replacement in the near future. Not what anyone wants to hear. He is not warm and fuzzy, but I feel he did take time to answer my questions at every visit, and gave me practical advice on what to expect, he told me that if my quality of life was going downhill, that was when it was time for surgery.. I opted to wait on surgery, getting a steroid shot then, and again a year later. Did they help-- don't really know as my pain was intermittent at the time. Remember, you need to advocate for yourself, so come prepared with questions, and always get a second opinion. I went to NYU for my second opinion and with the diagnosis from Dr DiFelice I was able to research and ask about alternatives...like stem cell and PRP, the NYU doctor told me he tried them all, they aren't ready yet, but he echoed what Dr DiFelice said about life quality. My experiences with his care team, Sabrina and Yashira have been pleasant and professional, always receiving a reply within 2 days-again to be expected in NYC, at the best hospital for orthopedic surgery. The X-ray techs, his nurses--all pleasant, friendly and professional. One nurse in particular--I want to say her name was Grace--held my hand and kept me calm for my first steroid shot. My surgery date did get moved a week later, which I was not happy about as I had to change my sister's flight which did cost money-but what can you do. There are some policies in place at HSS, that seem like a money grab, but that's not on the Doctor. You have to have your pre-op screening with an HSS doctor--which charged my insurance upwards of $700-my PCP visit is only $300...so things like that add up quickly, in terms of your out-of-pocket costs. Had my surgery Friday morning was home by 5 the same day. You are v loopy and feeling no pain that day, but you 100% need someone with you that first week. You don't realize how many things you will need help with-everything! My sister stayed 10 days and that was perfect. Do get yourself the raised toilet seat and I did rent the NICE compression and cooling machine for2 weeks. IMO it is worth the $370. I used it not only on my hip, but managed to wrap my lower leg as well when it started to swell. You will not be able to put socks on, or bend down. It will be hard to get comfortable--I ordered a 6" piece of foam from Walmart, which really helped with being able to sit on my sofa--father pillows were not cutting it. The good news is that around day 5 you turn a corner, the pain is less, you're not as stiff and you feel a lot better. At 12 days, walking without a cane, PT is going well. Just don't overdo it. I do PT and home exercises-while watching TV. I take a walk outside every day. You really need 3 months to get that replacement sealed in. Overall I am v happy with my results, and the care I received from Dr DiFelice and his staff. He is an excellent surgeon, and I plan to use him for my right hip as well. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Dr. Stieber is exceedingly competent but he's also NICE and he cares about his patients as people. For my surgery (performed at NYU), he brought in a fabulous anesthesia specialist who seriously listened to me regarding my tendency to become quiet nauseous with general anesthesia and doubled up on the anti-emetic as a result.
