Filet au Poivre*
Don A.

My friend wanted to take me out for a pre - birthday celebration dinner and who am I to refuse? I gave him a short list of restaurants and he chose the Library...which I quickly agreed to. We got there early to enjoy some happy hour drinks at the bar. The bartender was friendly with some great stories, but more importantly he knew how to make a proper martini. It was great. After a cocktail and a glass of 1/2 off wine we went to the host stand to be seated. The staff were very accommodating and polite. They hustled us to a nice sized table, gave us menus and took our water order(we had drinks already). Our waiter came back quickly and went over the specials. We took a minute to digest them and scan the menu. He showed up again in a few minutes and we put our order in. We decided on the table side Caesar Salad for two and the escargots(I had heard they are known for). My friend ordered the crusted lamb chops...rare and I went for the surf and turf with a 10oz filet. Interestingly, they only had filet mignon as their meat option that night, which worked well for me but might have been a problem for others. While we waited I was able to take a look at the place. It was a slightly modern layout with books lining the top of the walls and a large fireplace against one side. The tables were well spread out and each waiter has a section that was small enough for them to provide the service needed for a high end dining experience. The only issue I found with the ambiance was the dress of roughly half the patrons. If you are at a fine dining establishment and about to spend $400 on a dinner for two, you would like to be around people who aren't dressed as if they just mowed the lawn or rolled out of bed. I saw way too many "hoodies, jeans" and "baseball caps" for my liking. I could have been in a fast food restaurant. IMO, there should be at least some sort of a dress code. After a few minutes, we were treated to a soft, delicious hot roll with creamy butter as well as the escargots. The snails were perfect...flavorful with just enough garlic and super soft. My friend kept dipping his bread in the escargot sauce..it was that good. Next was the Caesar salad which was semi-made at table side(there seems to be some kind of law against raw eggs in a dining room). Although we didn't get the full show, the salad was great..the lettuce fresh and the dressing spot on...maybe a bit too much but still fine. After we finished our salad and apps the main course came out. My filet was cooked perfectly and was done exactly medium rare, soft and tender...no complaints. The lobster tail, which was also stuffed with shrimp and served with clarified butter was great. I looked over at my friend(which was hard as he was stuffing lamb chop after lamb chop into his mouth!) and asked him how his was and he was able to pry his mouth away from a chop to say "perfect". We finished up and the waiter began chatting up the desserts. I was stuffed but my dining companion wanted to keep going. He ordered one of the "specials" which consisted of a peanut butter cheese cake with bananas foster on top...we were in for another table side show. Within minutes our waiter wheeled the cart out and began lighting a fire. He quickly cooked the bananas with rum and put together this decadent concoction. He set up an extra spoon for me and I did sneak in a few bites...I could feel my sugar levels rising with just 3 spoonfuls...worth it though...it was that good. Afterwards the bill came and my friend graciously picked up the tab...it was not cheap, but worth every penny. Overall, it was a very good dining experience, the bar, food and service were great...5 star, but it loses a star because of the dress of the patrons which negatively impacted the dining experience. They really need to install a dress code because it is a fine dining establishment and everything counts at these prices. That food was so good that I will probably go back...maybe I'll wear a tux to drive home my point.

Baked Feta Appetizer

We found the Library on a Yelp search (thanks fellow Yelpers because your recommendation was great!) for our anniversary dinner. Our experience was top notch from beginning to end! Patrick delivered the most incredible service--from his descriptions of the dishes to his care for our experience to his enthusiasm. If you have the pleasure of having Patrick serve you then you are in for an incredible meal! (The other staff we saw with guests were also super kind and great with their hospitality too!) For our meal, we selected the baked feta appetizer. It was delicious and the perfect start to the meal. I selected a filet with a port wine reduction sauce. The sauce definitely was worth the hype. I'd recommend saving some of your roll to dip in the sauce! The steak was basically silk, you can cut it with a butter knife. My husband got the duck with a cherry sauce. He was a huge fan! For dessert we ordered a bananas foster dessert. This was prepared table side and made for an enjoyable end to our meal. (Several menu items are made table side and we enjoyed watching them be prepared for other guests).

Nice ambience. Food was well prepared. Nice presentation albeit small portions for a hearty appetite. Our waiter was new/inexperienced but endearing--could tell he was nervous. Pricey--safe for a special occasion.

A beautiful experience! The wait staff was great. They offered great recommendations and wine pairings. Several of the menu items are prepared table side.

Feature/ Seared Halibut topped with lump crab meat, and a champagne lobster cream sauce

My best friend & I enjoyed an amazing dinner experience at The Library Restraunt. Our waiter was phenomenal, making sure we were taken care of & happy but never too pushy. The food was outstanding. I wish I would have taken a picture of the Baked Feta appetizer topped with homemade tomato pesto, it was the best appetizer I've had! We order the seafood feature of seared halibut topped with lump crab meat, & a champagne lobster cream sauce. The flavors were great & the presentation beautiful. We were able to enjoy catching up with each other while not feeling rushed. It was truly a great time from the moment we walked in the door and the host walked us to the table & pulled out our chairs, to the moment we left, and our waiter walked us out and gave us a key line cream mint.

Grilled Halibut with carrots and potato

Our server, Breanna, was awesome, so tentative and efficient. She explained each dish precisely. The drinks were amazing and well balanced with liquor. The seafood trio is fresh, and Shecrab soup is the best we've had. My dinner was grilled, Halibut done perfectly Husband had shrimp scampi with a huge portion of pasta. Sauce delightful. The banana foster prepared table side was spectacular This restaurant is definitely a five-star

Very weird ambiance (dark and cold). Not a good place for young adults. Food is probably good but we did not stay to eat.

Ask the Community - Library Restaurant

Does this restaurant allow kids?

I've not seen children at The Library nor is there any indication they are not allowed. As a fine dining restaurant ($100+ per person) it may not be the best place to bring kids.…

Is there a bar to stop for a glass of wine and escargot?

I know they have a small bar if you can eat there or noti do not know.

Is there vegetarian options?

yes The Library Restaurant does have vegetarian options.

Can you wear jeans?

I wouldn't recommend unless it was a dark color with a sport jacket since this is a very dressy classic kind of restaurant

To give you an idea, my husband and I ate there this evening and here's what we had (all excellent). Appetizers: tuna tartare with capers, wasabi, sesame seeds, lettuce, and crisps. It was well balanced and delicious. The other appetizer was Cambodian Spring Rolls, which were perfectly browned, and eaten by placing them in a romaine lettuce leaf with crumbled peanuts and dipping it in an amazing but light sauce. The textures and flavors played off of each other wonderfully, elevating it far above any regular spring roll you may be thinking of. For entrees, my husband had the special, Paella (saffron rice, mussels, shrimp, clams, and a whole crab, red bell pepper). Every item was perfectly cooked, neither undercooked nor overcooked and it tasted fantastic. My entree was perfectly cooked pan-seared salmon filet, with perfectly grilled large asparagus and the most amazing take on grits I have ever had (not your mama's breakfast grits). They were delicately flavored with butter, a hint of cheese and I don't know what else but it understated while still having flavors that seemed too complex for grits to have, without being overdone. There are menu items for both the more and less adventurous diner, and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A gem in the middle of nowhere.

Caprice Bistro has been part of our love story for years. We celebrated anniversaries here…read morethroughout our engagement, so after getting married, it felt only right to return for our intimate elopement dinner. We recently learned that the previous owners had sold the restaurant. While we certainly miss seeing them--and a few former menu favorites such as the lamb shank and pork dish--the new owners have done a wonderful job preserving the atmosphere and quality that make Caprice special. The Beef Bourguignon and Steak Frites were still absolutely amazing and remain two of our favorites. We tried the bone marrow this time, which was good, although we probably would choose the charcuterie next time. Our server was wonderful, and the restaurant thoughtfully accommodated our request to sit upstairs. Because our reservation was near the end of the evening, we nearly had the space to ourselves. They surprised us with two complimentary glasses of champagne and even allowed us to choose a song to close out our special night. Those personal touches meant so much to us. My only constructive feedback concerns the end of the evening. Someone repeatedly walked through the dining area making loud comments about needing to hurry, finish up, and leave. I'm unsure whether those remarks were intended for us to hear, but they made us feel rushed during an otherwise beautiful moment. My husband and I have both worked in restaurants, so we are very mindful of closing time and would never intentionally keep a staff waiting. We were already planning to box our remaining food and leave promptly. Since the restaurant was still actively being cleaned and broken down, those comments felt unnecessary and could have been handled more professionally. That moment aside, everyone was kind, the service and atmosphere were lovely, and the food was delicious as always. We deeply appreciate the effort made to accommodate us and make our wedding dinner memorable. Caprice remains a meaningful place in our story, and we look forward to returning for future anniversaries.

Unfortunately, our waiter was extremely rude throughout our meal. I'm not sure what his issue was, but his attitude made the entire experience unpleasant. Overall, the food was good, but the service lacked basic manners and communication. I'm vegetarian and also have food allergies, so clear communication is especially important to me. I need to understand exactly what I'm being served, and the restaurant needs to understand my dietary restrictions. I asked our waiter what came on the cheese board (Plateau de Fromages), and his response was simply, "It's a plate of cheese." I found that very condescending because I obviously understood that, I had specifically asked what was on the cheese board. Regardless of having dietary restrictions, I think a majority of people would know what comes on the cheese board given there is no information on the menu. He eventually told me it included three types of cheese, candied pecans and nine-grain bread. However, when it arrived, it also had crostinis, apples, a strawberry, and some type of Jell-O-like item that appeared as though it could contain gelatin. None of those items were mentioned when I specifically asked what was included. We also ordered a crepe to try, which was good. My husband ordered a dish that he enjoyed, and I ordered the Plat d'Oeufs. When ordering, I clearly requested over medium eggs and asked for the sausage to be placed on a separate plate. He responded by saying, "so you want eggs and sausage"and then asked what type of eggs I wanted, so I assumed he hadn't heard my request about the sausage and repeated it. He cut me off and said, "I got that. What type of eggs do you want?" His response felt unnecessarily dismissive, especially since I was simply trying to make sure my dietary restrictions were understood. When my food arrived, the eggs were over hard and almost completely cooked through. I politely explained that I had ordered them over medium. He responded, "Oh, so you want them softer?" I said yes. When he brought the replacement eggs, he made another unnecessary comment, "You wanted them "over easy," even though they were actually much closer to over medium. The food itself wasn't bad, and I certainly wasn't blaming our waiter for how the eggs were cooked, he wasn't the person preparing them. The issue was his attitude and the unnecessary comments throughout the meal. What could have been a nice dining experience was ultimately overshadowed by service that felt condescending, dismissive and unnecessarily rude. In the photo you can tell the egg was not cooked over medium. It was cooked all the way through.
