Beautiful decor! Felt like we were back in time

Came here for our honeymoon! It was incredible, the food and drinks were delicious! We had a great server she constantly came to check. There was also live music that warmed our hearts. Will come again when we are in town.

The Library is in the Hume Hotel which is owned and run by the Martin family. and as chris d. says it's a Nelson institution. The Library is a comfortable place to meet, have a drink, snacks or a lunch and dinner. I like the restaurant just across the hall and also the bar, just up the stairs. The atmosphere is great and the food is consistently good. For those visiting Nelson, you want to try the Hume hotel for something whether just a drink, a meal or taking in a performance in the Spirit Bar,.

We had a quick afternoon snack here on our day trip in Nelson. The place looks exactly like an old library, dark but got some history. We got the borscht and a drink for each of us. The sangria and Nelson brewery beer were good. However the borscht was amazing!

    Columns supports in the library.

Amazing room with bar, fireplace, and serving food hotel kitchen including prime rib on weekends. Love the handcarved atlas supporting women.

Negroni: Interesting Italian classic with gin, vermouth and Campari with a snowball ice cube.

Had Shirley Temples, really good. Great atmosphere, two live musicians, nice music, and not loud.

The atmosphere in the room was nice, although slightly loud. I started by ordering a bottle of wine, which was great. The menu had four choices for the starter, I choice the shrimp cocktail with bang-bang sauce. It was tasty. The next course was a shared charcuterie board. It was fun to share the food. At some point a server came to either drop something off or pick something up, but without asking started to empty the wine into our glasses. This is bad etiquette for a server to touch anything on the table without asking. The third course was the main, I opted to upgrade the steak to a filet and add peppercorn sauce. When the main came out I tried the steak and it was way to salty, and I like salt. So, decision time, do I say something and disrupt our whole experience or suck it up. I decided to suck it up for the sake of the evening. My partners food was mostly fine. She had the lamb shank. The veg for both meals was the same. Some oven roasted root veg plus some sqash and zucchini. The root veg was raw, so we did say something about that. The waitress was very helpful and brought out more veg ten mins after we were finished the main. The same problem persisted, though, uncooked root veg. We shared a tarmisu for dessert. The experience was disappointing because we held this restaurant in a high regard. There reputation will be downgraded, in my eyes, to cause me to think twice befor recommending Louie's Steakhouse for food.

The place was pretty busy at the time we got there but not full.... The server greeted us pretty quickly and offered appetizers and the special they had. We ordered a couple of appetizers and some pitchers of beer and didn't have to wait long for it. The servers were friendly too and would check up on us incase we wanted anything else :) One good thing is that they tell you when last call is unlike other places... The ambiance is quite relaxed and they play music but its not blaring so you can actually talk to the person you are with which is great. The decor was fine and had some nice touches but it still needs to be improved as parts are a bit dated; it was probably a mix between an older outdated style with some modern touches thrown in... They need to ditch the tacky banquet chairs at some tables.... All in all the place definitely has potential to be something the area doesn't have currently. The only thing I didn't like is that last call is pretty early and they close at 10 so we had to go to another bar after lol. It's a good place to come with friends to have a drink in a relaxed atmosphere without the feeling of being in a bar and it's the only place in Trail with that type of establishment which i am accustomed to in Vancouver...

There was outdoor seating that was wonderful for this hot evening, but there is a bit of a wait to get that seating. It is an umbrella covered seating area with a candle on the table, giving a romantic or cozy feeling. The service was nice but busy as expected. The server had a nice approach, but I felt like I was being sold items that the server first said she did t care for, but as I selected the item, she then said it was a great choice and that she liked it. I'm never really interested in the likes or dislikes of the server, but their description of dishes and answers to questions about ingredients or items on a dish on invaluable. I had the spicy fried chicken sandwich with a salad. The chicken breast was perfectly prepared with a nice crunch. It was served on a brioche bun. I had sharp cheddar cheese with the usual burger toppings. I am now appreciating that spicy, according to the palates of European - associated community, is not the same as it would be in some Latin, Thai, or Black/African communities. I love moderate to high heat and spice. What is considered "very spicy and hot", to my palate, was mild and tasty. That being said, it was a tasty burger and the salad was fine. We did not order dessert given how busy it was and we were tired from a long day. I would recommend this place to eat as a bit of an upscale bar food place. I would recommend that the chefs learn how to adjust the heat and spice for those of us believing the menu when it says hot and spicy*** as server for increased heat and spice.
