Amazing service and thoughtful wine flights! Go during happy hour for great specials. Mustaffa was an amazing host and very knowledgeable about the wine and food pairings! He even went as far as sharing some chocolates from a local chocolatier! My only criticism is that there are not really any tapas?! Perhaps in the summertime when the outside patio and decks are full? There is massive outdoor seating with incredible views, but I was there during chilly winter weather. We had a such delightful date night at Sage! Freddy was our lovely and attentive server, and his experience in high-end, big-city restaurants was obvious. We shared the mezze platter and it.was.divine. The flavours, the textures, the colours - everything was mouth watering and beautiful--just perfect. (I'm salivating just thinking about it right now). Started out with the wine selection. Three rieslings by the glass but few other white selections. Ordered a gimlet which was very good. The cucumber wrapped meatballs were very dry and over-cooked. I ordered the curry since the risotto was not available. I added chicken. Chicken pieces were very thin and few. I've never had curry with peas, corn and carrot tops in it. There were the stems of broccolini but no florets. Just very strange. My husband had the trout which was obviously frozen. Our waiter, though nice, had horrible body order. It was loud due to the EDM playing in the bar down below. Disappointing. read more

The appies here were amazing, I didn't see any mains that caught my eye so my buddy and I just split 4 appetizers instead. Tuna tartar (had watermelons and was fucking amazing OMG) the beets carpaccio (yes cooked beets thank god, I've had raw beets carpaccio and it's not as fun to eat) and mussels and broccolini, everything was to die for. Cocktails are excellent as well. I was definitely impressed with the food quality of this location. Great service too! I really enjoyed my dinner experience at Sage. Compelling location at the very walkable edge of downtown, with a fairly sizable outdoor patio one could enjoy in the summer months. Interior is cozy and suitable for a special occasion or romantic meal. Service is highly professional and efficient. The food I had (beet salad appetizer and sous vide pork tenderloin with apples) were both excellent. So too was the BC-grown Malbec that accompanied it - a bit unusual on the face (given the climate difference between the Mendoza and Okanagon valleys), but it was seriously good juice. Loved the 'acoustic cover' background music. Wouldn't classify as a tapas restaurant per se (not Spanish influenced, nor are there an abundance of shareable small plates) but it was excellent food nonetheless. Highly Recommended read more

Dined at most of the finer establishments on recent visit to Nelson, Sage was the best. This will be our first stop on next visit. Ambience is nice, views of the water, food from appetizer to desert was amazing, service excellent. Asking about a pre dinner Margarita, our waiter commented, " Itake my Margaritas seriously". How could you possibly go wrong? A little off the beaten path with main entrance towards at side of building, extremely well worth a visit. Please keep up the great food, service and ambience Sage! I Yelped places to eat in Nelson. 3 co-workers and I wanted to go out for dinner. I had Tapas many times in Vancouver but they'd never heard of it. Well, what a wonderful night it turned out to be. Sampling a little of this a little of that. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We had Smoked Salmon Carpaccio to die for, warm olives, Roasted Broccolini - the aoli was fabulous! the Charcuterie board was so great because you get to sample so many things. Loved the Capers. Finally, the desserts were Amazing! Beautifully presented and oh so delicious. I never write reviews... but I can't thank you enough Sage - for a wonderful evening. read more

Really, really fabulous. Would give 6 stars if I could. Great service. Wine was a little old so bartender opened new bottle without us even requesting it. Super friendly staff. Good food and nice patio, but I was pretty unimpressed by the service. My friend and I both ordered medium-rare steaks and what we were served looked medium-well/well-done to us. When we said something to the waitress, she took our steaks into the kitchen, and came back saying "the chef says that's medium rare." Still a tasty steak, but pretty clearly off and the staff didn't seem to care. read more

This place had the entire package...great food, great ambience, and wonderful service. It's a must in Nelson.

We essentially like this place and return occasionally. In the summer, the deck outside is lovely and with a nice view. In colder weather, we go inside to a small, nicely appointed room, with large comfortable booths. It's quiet and good for conversation. Unfortunately, in the winter they have stretched plastic on the windows for warmth instead of real storm windows. It looks cheap and terrible and detracts from the appearance. It is located in the back of a local beer and music pub and has a separate entrance so there is no noise or traffic from the pub. You have to be intentional to go there as it is not seen from the street. I'd recommend reservations at all times. They don't have a separate phone number, so the phone is answered in the pub. Not a thrill, but the pub will take reservations. The restaurant opens at 5 PM.. The menu is not overly large and has a good variety. The wine list was nice. We were surprised that they didn't have a bottle of bitters. You can add extra pieces to the tapas orders so each person can have a taste without having to double order. Most items have very rich sauces, but mostly tasty. The curry mussels were overly salty and under flavoured. (We told them that and thought they should have deducted it from the bill, but didn't.) The filet mignon, though ordered medium-rare, came medium. We were attended by two lovely servers who did a good job and were appropriately attentive, one of whom kept asking us, "Are 'we' enjoying..." We thought that trite. Be careful not to tip by percentage, as they calculate that from the final bill. Tips should not include tax, and that is unavoidable if you choose the percentage tab. Not a thrill. We did not overeat. Total, including tip was $320 for four people. read more

Perfect, cozy, upscale spot for a date. The wine, food, and service are all excellent. Ask for a recommendation: the wait staff is courteous and helpful. I discovered my new favorite white wine, the Organic Summerhill Erhenfelser. My girlfriend discovered her new favorite red, the Organic Summerhill Merlot. We were delighted with the cheese plate, which included other niceties like mango chutney, sweet pepper relish, candied lemon, candied pecans, etc. The Earl Grey creme brulee was decadent. Consistently excellent. Amongst the best quality gourmet plates in Nelson - which provides much stiff competition. You can make a great meal of just the tapas-style starters. Decent wine list, courteous service. Best view in town out towards the mountains. Mid-range to higher prices, but well, worth it for value. I stopped in for a few glasses of BC wine and absolutely loved this little place. The patio seating is quaint and overlooks the lake. The service is friendly and the wines are lovely. I have been meaning to write this review for some time and was at first going to start a blog on how bad both the service and food was. Our feedback at the start of the servIce was reminiscent of the Seinfeld show -- with the soup Nazi. We came later in the evening with reservations and as the other reviewers stated the steak my wife had was over done but of course the waitress said it wasn't. My dish was a pile of noodles with a cream sauce which I said I wanted a separate plate for, but they combined it all together again in a diluted white cream sauce. Total ambivalence. As my wife and I discussed it openly to each other the server came over and told us to keep our voices down. We continued to talk and next the chef appeared, then the owner appeared and they all threatened to call the police. Unbelievable -- so if Jerry Seinfeld is looking to create a reenactment of the soup Nazi episode he has not far to look with the cast of characters running the Sage Tapas Wine Bar in Nelson BC read more
