A woman called me without even identifying herself and immediately said, "You left two negative reviews, and I was surprised to see you on the schedule. I wanted to make sure we were good." What exactly was I supposed to take from that? I had to ask her multiple times whose name was even on these reviews before she finally said mine. One review was from years ago, and the other was from about four months ago. During the conversation, she even acknowledged that in the more recent situation, their employee had given me incorrect information. She stated that she was new manager finally and attempt to "address the issues". So why was I being confronted about an honest review of an experience your own staff mishandled? The entire call felt less like an attempt to resolve a customer-service issue and more like an attempt to make me cancel my appointment. When I finally asked directly whether she still wanted me to bring my vehicle in, suddenly she was stumbling over her words. If you wanted my business, why call me before my scheduled appointment specifically to bring up old negative reviews and tell me you were "surprised" I was on the schedule? It also leaves me with a serious question: Is this how Hometowne Auto Repair contacts every customer who has ever left a negative review, or was I singled out as a Black woman who criticized the service she received? Customers should be able to leave honest reviews--especially when a business acknowledges its employee provided incorrect information--without wondering whether those reviews will later be held against them when they try to obtain service. Bringing up a review from years ago and another from months ago immediately before my appointment was unnecessary, intimidating, and incredibly unprofessional. After that phone call, I certainly did not feel that my business was wanted or that I could comfortably trust this shop with my vehicle. TAKE YOUR CAR HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK! At the end of the day I blame myself for trying to give them another chance since i had been going to them for almost 10years! Took my car in to have brakes fixed, get a new battery & have an internal physical to see what else…read moremight be wrong with it. They said they conducted a full exam & found 11 things wrong & 27 things right. My vehicle is a 2016 so I asked them to be honest and tell me if they could get it in good running shape. I'm on a fixed income and didn't want to spend a ton if it couldn't be salvaged. They swore they could fix it & get it in great shape. They fixed the brakes & put in a new battery. I wanted them to fix the AC coz it went out. They put $800 worth of freon in the AC. I spent close to $7,000 in toto! The engine light was on when I drove it home! WTF?! They said they had taken the vehicle for a drive after working on it and said it was great. Did they ignore the engine light?! The car had a dead battery for a couple months & sat in my driveway before I took it in. I couldn't open the doors becuz it was all electronic locks. They told me rodents had obviously been in it when I first spoke with them about the test results. Gross. I didn't understand what that meant exactly. I learned when I picked it up. Rat or mouse poop & urine was all over the floors & in the cup holders. I horrified! I hired a detail company to clean out the car when I got home. That cost another $700! I prob would have junked it based on the poop alone. I def would not have agreed to spending $7,000! They should have told me how awful it was inside. But, nope. They wanted their money so they skipped that part. I could barely drive home I was so upset. Poop everywhere & the engine light was on! The freon they put in the AC lasted 1 month! I told them I wanted them to fix the AC -- they said they put colorant in it and wanted to see if there was a leak. I told them there was a leak becuz the freon had leaked out the year prior. I just wanted it fixed. No experiments. My brakes have started squeaking again -- 2 months after being in their shop for more than one week. And, no AC means we are melting from the heat when we drive any where becuz it's summer. I have asked them a couple times to tell me when I could drop off the car becuz they didn't finish the job I paid for. They didn't answer me. Finally I gave up. I didn't want them messing with my car again. I was supremely ripped off. Someone has recommended a different mechanic so I'm going to try them. At least see what they about the shape my car is in. That will be interesting. I'm sure I will be super pissed all over again when they tell me all the things that weren't fixed correctly. U bet I'm gonna update this review with the findings I get from the new mechanic. Do not take your car here. Unless U enjoy spending thousands of dollars for nothing.

As soon as my free warranty services were up from the dealership, I have been taking my car to Caton's Auto Repair. They have NEVER made me feel like they are trying to upsell unnecessary products or swindling me by saying my car needs repairs when everything is fine. They also go back to look at your records, so if you aren't sure what maintenance services you need at your current mileage, they will ensure everything is done. The employees are always incredibly courteous and knowledgeable. With the thousands of dollars that I'm sure I've saved from not flushing my money away to a dealership that would nickel and dime me, the value of honesty and trust cannot be beaten. They recommended all 4 to be replaced. They quoted me about $300/tire. A few weeks later I noticed the fronts were splitting and almost no tread. I was passing a Firestone, they replaced two fronts with the type that quantico quoted me and said the other two will need be replaced in about 20k miles. The tires cost me $200 each including that extended $25 warranty. I am sticking with Firestone place of business.

Apparently the brakes they installed were faulty (the rotors warped), but they still charged be $200 to replace them even though they were still under warranty. That would be fine, I guess, if they had done a good job or used good parts the second time, but it's been 2 months and my brakes are grinding and slipping. Apparently, the pins, the rotors, the pin boots, the pads, and a few other parts are so low quality that they're falling apart already. At this point, I'm not trusting my car to these guys again. I took my car to the mechanic near my work in Fredericksburg and paid him $500 to just do the job correctly. I deeply regret not taking my car to him in the first place, as he would have done a good job, stood by his work, and I wouldn't be out $700 for bad work and bad parts.
