I can't say I have ever been disappointed. This time, I ordered a large Snickers Blizzard. The rest of my party ordered lunch. The team member at the front counter was quick to take our order and was polite. Looking over the rest of the kitchen, it appeared the staff was adhering to all food safety and health standards. The restaurant was clean. It's hard to find another place with as much value as DQ. You get a lot of food for a little cost. The food and ice cream was out quickly and tasted great. The Blizzard was mixed perfectly and I was getting candy in just about every bite. Overall, this was a great experience and I plan to make one more stop here before I return home.

Since then, Dairy Queen as a whole has been displaced from the top of my list, first by Harvey's then by Burgermeester. (And now, the new and improved A&W has snuck past DQ into third place.) But still, if I'm looking for a burger and there's a DQ in the area, I'll go there more often than not. But, sadly, not this one. It's not actually bad, you understand. But it just kind of feels like they're phoning it in. I'd still take this DQ over, say, McDonald's. But it's just not as good as other DQs. (And, unfortunately, with Sheetz, Burger King, and Arby's all fairly close, it's just got too much competition for my taste buds.) As such, this McDonalds located in the rather rural conservative backward Appalachian foothill City of Warren is no exception. It's particularly clean, the attending staff polite, energetic and seemingly will to go out of their way to please their customers. For example, I ordered a fish sandwich. The clerk said it would take a moment, so I took a seat, got on my mobile app, was doing my usual Yelp check-in when to my surprise instead of calling out a name, a number or just yelling over to me, she served me at my seat, my meal on a tray, even gathered me some napkins and in a sincere voice inquired if there was anything else she could do for me which is something you'd never hear or have happen in any big city and particularly not in the areas of Miami-Dade. As for the food, well, all I can say is that McDonalds has food, but the sort that is in McDonalds world of its own, cheap, sub par, and prepared with questionable mystery ingredients and practices. A low end two star on the food, but for a McDonalds with a polite caring staff, doing the best they can with the only foods they can offer, I'm going three stars plus.

Possibly, that's because it's the only fast food joint on, or even close to, Route 6. (Most of the other options are on Pennsylvania Avenue or Market Street.) Or possibly, it's because the food is really good. The kids were under the impression that they only sell drinks and ice cream. That may have been the case once, but now they offer hot food as well. My grilled chicken sandwich was superb and the broccoli and cheddar bits were a nice break from the usual fries, my sweetie enjoyed her fish sandwich and was delighted by the macaroni and cheese bites, Working Man enjoyed his cheeseburger, and the Cute Little Fluffy Kin raved about the hot dogs. (The hot dogs did smell really good, but I resisted the urge to try to steal some.) I suspect that they may figure out a way to get there even when we're not in town to take them. There is also a very wide selection of ice cream flavours. They take plastic, but charge a dollar more if you don't pay cash. (I don't know how they get away with that.) There are a few picnic tables scattered around, but no inside seating (or washrooms). Any time I've been by during their open season, there has been a lineup at the order windows, so clearly, the locals know that this is a good place to get some grub. Up until about six months ago, I never encountered any issues here. Recently, though, they've had some. I've gone in for a tuna sub during Lent; they were out of it. Fine. I got a veggie sub, but that's not what I really wanted. Ok, I can understand shortages. I've also gone in and been told "we are out of all bread except Italian." Ok, that's my go-to choice anyway. But had I wanted wheat--- Tonight I stopped by and was greeted by a sign on the door saying only cash was being accepted. Their internet was down. I thought about going to the bank, getting cash, and returning... but decided to simply go somewhere else that could accept my debit card. Will I return? Probably, because the staff seems nice. But there sure seem to be a lot of issues being passed onto the customer to deal with or accept.
