While I'm not directly involved in the business itself, I've had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the heart, dedication, and care she pours into every aspect of it. Beyond the Black Board isn't just a toy store -- it's a cornerstone of the community. It's a place where creativity, learning, and imagination come alive for kids (and honestly, adults too). But like many small, family-owned businesses, it's also feeling the ripple effects of the current global economy -- especially the increasing tariffs and the challenges of supply chains. These issues are real, and they're putting pressure on the very businesses that make our towns unique. If you're in a position to shop small or support local, I wholeheartedly urge you to consider Beyond the Black Board. Whether it's for a birthday gift, classroom supplies, or just something to spark joy, every purchase you make there truly makes a difference -- not just to the business, but to the people behind it who care deeply about what they do. Let's keep our local gems thriving.

Tons of things for my own interests as well as gifts for family, friends, and especially my 3 year old. Finally picked up a Ravensburger puzzle after seeing the great reviews they get on Reddit. They were beginner 35 and 60 piece ones to work on with the kid, but they had all the way up to 3000 piece (uh, I'll have to pass on that challenge for now). Anyway, I highly recommend a stop in if you're in the area, or even if not. Service was also very friendly!

It's in an old movie theater across from the courthouse. I always find something when I come here - earrings, incense, post cards, tshirts, etc. There's fun stuff, funny stuff, art, gifts, candles, etc. Something for everyone! Staff is helpful & super friendly. They've got fair prices as well. Definitely would recommend checking it out if you need a Boulder gift!

Right from the get go, Art Mart doesn't consist solely of artwork. There are way more apparel, jewelry, homegoods, tchotchkes, and the like than there is actual artwork here, which is why it's a great one-stop shop for souvenirs! My friends and I bought matching Boulder shirts here because the artwork on the shirts were to die for! They were the cutest and we were able to snag the shirt in multiple different colors with the same design on them, so they were matching, but also slightly more unique in their own ways. This place is a great stop at the beginning AND end of your visit to Boulder and Pearl Street Mall because trust that you will not find anything cuter! That is what we did - this was the first store we popped into and saw so many cute things we liked, but held off on getting anything because we had just gotten here. We ended up popping into nearly every single store that looked appealing to us up and down the mall and ended by coming back to this store to get our shirts because truly, we didn't find anything we liked more than that! It was a lovely Boulder souvenir and such great quality! I have enjoyed wearing it ever since!!

Unlike many gift shops, Luminary offers not only unique and locally made offerings but a great diversity of extremely well crafted items. From fine jewelry to scarves, beautifully pottery and paintings, there is a lot to like in this small space at very reasonable prices. The presentation is terrific as well. I especially appreciated bulk lavender offered in a pedestal sink with an antique serving spoon as a scoop. Touches like these aren't to be found at some of the bigger "crafts" shops or the more upscale "boutiques." I have to admit, I'm not a fan of the "hand crafted" gift. They are, in the worst moments, insipid, poorly made or intended to be humorous in ways that fall flat. I saw little to none of this in Luminary and felt that I was surrounded by pieces that had meaning -- whether because they were locally made, sustainably made or offered a smart political message. The owner was friendly, open and community minded. In the new "locavore" trend, I can't see why we shouldn't extend it to other types of buying as well.

The bookstore and cafe was clean and cozy surrounded by books and more books with lots of cool trinkets to browse. I was a little disappointed though with their limited selection of bakery items and opted for just a cup of coffee and relaxed at a small table. Employee Josie took my pile of used books to get reviewed for possible future credit towards books I can buy later at their shop. Another building on the premises had lots of whimsical items such as socks, jewelry, pins, mugs, etc. I met Deidre that was friendly and helped me pick up out a cat shirt that was so adorable that I just had to buy.
