When Lia's first opened 20+ years ago it was THE pizzeria I would recommend to anyone. It was always packed no matter what time of day. The guys behind the counter would always tell me "if you want something you don't see let us know and we'll make it for you" and the assortment of pies they had on display would make anyone drool. Things surely have changed. At what was a busy lunch rush, there was only one table occupied by the high school students from the nearby school. Nobody else was in there. The assortment of pies was almost dismal in comparison to what once was. The staff seemed like they didn't even want to be bothered. And when I noticed the dust all over the soda dispenser as well as on the glass display that the pizzas were in, I quickly realized why it has been so long since I've been here. Got a Caesar slice which in my opinion you can't make that wrong so I had no issues with that. But the chicken Marsala and Francese pies I used to crave were nowhere to be seen, who knows if it would even taste the same as the ones made years ago. read more

I was there today. The boss went into the bathroom and stayed there, talking on his phone the entire time. When I finished my pizza I wanted to use the bathroom. I waited a few more minutes, then knocked on the door. His voice yelled out, clearly agitated, "I'll be right out." He wasn't. I finally left, telling the guy the counter in a loud voice I hope was heard in the Bathroom , that the boss is a scumbag for using the bathroom as a private office and keeping paying customers out. Not the greatest pizzeria in the area. I had the grandma slice and it was not bad, but not great either. The pepperoni wheel was a bit too oily and cheesy for me. It was interesting to me how I came during the winter and they had their doors open so it was freezing inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, I wouldn't come back. Very rude owner, used a racist and disgusting tone when we walked into the store, asking for us to speak up when the establish is loud while employees gossiping almost each each other. Place used to be good when the original owner ran it. Now it's terrible. Guys behind the counter don't really seem to care too much about customer service or quality. Stopped in the other night, was late and just wanted something quick, thinking maybe a specialty slice would be better than their regular pies I sometimes order for the kids. The guys were busy kidding around with each other. When they were done they decided to help me. Picked out what I wanted, they seemed bothered by me and when the phone rang, guy throws my order in the oven and then takes it out maybe 1 minute after. So needless to say I had to throw it in the oven when I got home which is a few blocks away. I got the Lia's slice, 2 grandma's and some chicken slice. Each one was grosser than the next. Too much sauce that tasted like Ragu. The dough was soggy. Terrible. They also don't put any effort into cleaning the place. Store looks dingy and dirty. Guy dropped a spatula on the floor while I was there and put it right back on the counter. Last time I'll be ordering from there for myself or my kids. I'm very picky when it comes to my pizza; how I like it to be cooked and the texture of the dough. Lia's checks all the boxes for me from the dough to the sauce to the cheese. Check, check and check. These guys know how to make a good pizza. I usually call ahead and place an order and pick it up. They're always super friendly and quick with the orders. I've never been disappointed and the food quality is consistent every time I'm there. They have all different types of pizza and even do these delicious specialty slices. A very solid slice of regular. I wouldn't put it in my tippy top tier but a perfectly good and enjoyable slice when hot and fresh out of the oven. Meatballs also pretty solid for non grandma made pizzeria meatballs. Red sauce is also above average for a pizzeria. Overall this is a dependable and consistent local spot. As I was waiting, a steady stream of customers, mostly locals who looked like they knew each other/folks at the counter. Was recommended to go here by some folks in the area - really good pizza! If my sister had not pointed this place out I would have never even thought to go in. Boy am I glad that I did! Small pizza joint in a strip mall on the border of FS and West Hemp. Clean and compact, they do a really nice job with their grandma and marinara slices. Crispy and flavorful crust with a slightly sweet marinara sauce, and just the right amount of cheese. It's been like this since I moved here to Franklin Square almost 5 years ago. I would come here everyday if it wasn't for not upsetting my scale! I've recommended their stuffed pizza to family and friends. Even ordered it for some of my parties. Everyone have always been amazed at the size and then the taste. So addictive! Lia's Pizzeria is situated in the small shopping center just the street from VS North High School and has been there ever since I can remember. It was pretty much a ritual for us high schoolers to walk there on our lunch period and get a slice of warm, amazingly tasty pizza. Unfortunately, since I graduated high school nearly four years ago, I have not had the chance to go back until now. The place was packed when I walked in since it was around supper time, so I cordially waited my turn and ordered a Pepperoni slice to go.
