I recently came back here as it's my favorite local pizzeria! I got the west coast wrap which is my go to, it was fresh, and the size is great for the price. The buffalo chicken slice was also great, and my brother loved the chicken roll. The service is also always friendly. The food is ready quickly and always hot! I definitely recommend. read more

Grandmaaaaaaaaaa! I can't stop singing that after trying my first piece of Grandma's Pie ever. I guess it's a style and I friggin' loved it. Now I'm seeing it everywhere. This was a convenient spot for lunch when working in the area, and this small pizza shop delivered on friendliness and flavor. I had a pepperoni slice and a grandma slice and enjoyed both. The staff was friendly and they had a lot of selections. I'd definitely go back to try more, but I'd have a hard time saying no to Grandma! WORST PIZZA PLACE EVER!! They have a bunch of dumb kids running the place. NO ONE CARES no has bedside manner no has any kind of work ethic. Every single time we order from John Anthonys either the order is messed up, or it is hours late. Tonight, we figured we would try them one more time. Hour and a half later no food....tracker said order was to arrive between 8:10 and 8:20. Called at 9:05 and the restaurant was closed. Family of 5 now without dinner. Several other times where the food was hours late, we were just lied to over and over again when we called to get an update. I'll go so far as to say this is my new #1 fav. pizza place! Price is average. Crust is excellent - just the right crunch for me. Excellent if not perfect blend of cheese and sauce and I've only been disappointed once out of the 6 or so times I've bought there. Ed, ( if I recall correctly) the pizza maker/chef is very cordial as has been anyone else working behind the counter. As for Ambiance, I'd not take a date here unless I had already taken her out a couple times. Food may be very good but romantic/classy, it's not. It's just a regular pizza place with a sit-down area in the back. There's about maybe 6-8 tables seating 4-6 per table IF I recall correctly. Their personal pie is just as good too. I get the personal grandma pie and have yet to be disappointed, but usually I get a couple slices and am very satisfied. As I said, cost is average, about $3.50/per slice and it's a good sized slice too. Many other pizza joints I visit seem to have cut down on the size of the slices as well as cheese/sauce. I can't stand it when i try a new place and their pizza is yummy but when I return again and again, the yummy-ness isn't enjoyed as previous visits. So far at JohnAnthony's pizza in Valley Stream, just a block or two South of the hospital ( Franklin General Hosp. as it was known years ago when I lived in Valley Stream - didn't notice if name has changed), I've been a happy pizza-eater. If only they delivered to Mineola/New Hyde Park area:) I suggest having a slice or 2 or more when you can. We ordered 3 items. Regular pie, chicken roll and egglplant parm dinner. When we received the order instead of getting the chicken roll we received a spinach roll. I called, they said they would deliver the chicken roll but to return the spinach roll. This surprised me because anytime any delivery mistakes were made from anywhere else we've ordered they just replace the item as a courtesy. I told the owner that I already opened the bag and was confused as to why they would take back food that was touched by someone else. The owner said that the delivery driver gave me the wrong item and he would have to pay for it since he made the error. Me wondering if they took the spinach roll back would they put back on counter to sell? Or throw away? To sum up above their customer service is NOT good at all. As far as the food. Everything was very salty, especially the eggplant. My husband always finishes a dish and barely got through half of this dish. To Sum Up: Incorrect Order: Receiving a spinach roll instead of a chicken roll is a clear error on their part. Unusual Return Policy: Demanding the return of the opened spinach roll is unusual and raises hygiene concerns. Poor Customer Service: The owner's explanation, while acknowledging the driver's mistake, lacks empathy and doesn't prioritize customer satisfaction. Food Quality: The excessive saltiness of the food, particularly the eggplant parm, indicates a quality control issue. Final Note - I have stopped here on way home and got different items and continued to try to give them another try to stay with a local business, but after this particular order it will be my last. read more

I used to get pizza here when it was under another name. Since it's been under new ownership I've only had the white pizza, which is good. The first time I had it, it was piping hot from the oven and delicious! I also have had the garlic knots which seem to be varying degrees of garlic each time I've had them (my niece has brought them home twice). I like them when they have a lot of garlic and butter, not so much when they are dry. As to the ambiance, it is standard NY pizza place decorations. Not fancy, and better than before. I find their prices a bit high for the type of establishment, but haven't had some of those items to evaluate the worthiness of the cost. Also, I think it would generate more business if the specials weren't "Dine in" only. Not sure why that is, but it certainly has impacted my order because I like to eat in the comfort of my home. I look forward to trying other menu options and will update my review at that time. read more

There's no way to sugar coat the. John Anthony's in Valley Stream is a s***show. I recently ordered a couple of dinners from here after reading some reviews. First, I called to order, and the phone rang over twenty times before anyone picked up. After finally answering, it seemed that the phone was under water and it was hard to communicate with the person at the other end. Arriving at the restaurant, it was clear that the two young staff were frazzled. Five or six other customers were waiting around, and none looked happy, with one complaining to anyone within earshot about the length of time he had been waiting for his order. When I picked up the meals, I found that one was completely wrong. The other, a calamari dish, tasted like dried rubber bands, probably the worst calamari I have ever had. Not fresh at all. While the two meals were hardly edible, the pizza was good, even though it was not cut into slices for some reason. Check everything before you leave so that you avoid finding the mess when you get home. My advice is to go elsewhere. John Anthony's is not worth the trouble. read more

So this place just opened up last week. This pizzeria was pizza express for years but unfortunately they closed. After two months of waiting John Anthony's finally opened. So of course we checked it out. The pizza was okay not the best but not the worst. The reason for only three stars is one they charge a little too much for okay pizza. I have been driving by this place for years and just realized they had a parking lot in the back which made it very convenient to stop. I ordered a pizza and found it to be scrumptiously delicious. Two weeks later, I ordered catering. All the food was made to perfection - the meatballs were tender, the lasagna was cheesy, and the antipasto and party hero had lots of cold cuts...and the pizza of course was delicious, as well as other dishes. Person from the pizzeria called yelling at me saying the driver has been trying to make the delivery and no one is opening the door. I told him I've been at the door and no one has come up or rang the door bell (and I have a nest door bell). Placed an online order and waited an appropriate amount of time to go pick up. As I'm walking in the door I get a message that the order was cancelled. I speak to the man behind the counter who says "yeah it's cancelled, the machine's broken" and then continues about his business without asking what I'd ordered or if I want to wait while they make it. Really effing rude. The food looked and smelled great but needless to say I will never go back there, especially considering the number of pizza places in the area. I have to agree with one of the other posters. Their pizza is far being the best I've had, nor is it close to being the worst pizza that I have had. It was just ok. If you are starving it will hit the spot. I found the taste to be a little bland and the crust a little chewy. I like a little crunch to my crust, but that is a personal preference. I won't go back for pizza, but I will give their hot dishes a shot. Let's see how that goes. read more
