So I set out to find someone who could do a concrete brick retaining wall and found Barney's Concrete on Yelp. They had really great reviews, and had pictures of concrete brick walls that were exactly what I wanted. He also did turf as well which was really intriguing. Ideally I wanted to have one contractor to do all of the work, instead of having to manage multiple contractors. Daniel came out immediately to measure my yard and quoted me a reasonable price. In the end, he and his team demo'd our yard, built a concrete brick wall, laid concrete down for a new patio, and laid turf. The results are amazing, and we're now in our backyard every single day. Two things I especially appreciated were Daniel's (the owner) communication. He was very communicative throughout the process, always asking questions, giving me a heads up on when he'd be arriving, etc. He was also very thorough with his work and really went above and beyond. He didn't try to rush the project and instead took the time to make sure everything was done right so that it would last a long time. I had a great experience working with Daniel and his team. We hired Minez Concrete to pour a brand new, 200ft long driveway with curbs - one of the final stages of a lengthy and painful custom home build process. I paid extra for a sand finish. Not too happy with the way it turned out . The slab is uneven and lumpy in a few areas, with some brush marks visible, and already cracked in a couple of spots. They also failed to properly mask our garage door before the pour and ruined the bottom two panels with concrete splatter, which had to be replaced (they did cover some of the replacement cost). After the slab fully cured, I asked Oswaldo to come back and pressure wash the driveway a few times, but he never showed up to finish the job properly, which was disappointing. Their pricing is reasonable, but three stars is about right, considering the quality.

I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had with a home improvement contractor. From start to finish, Mike Stratton and his team were outstanding. Mike is friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in his work. He was flexible throughout the project as I made a few design changes along the way, and he was always willing to discuss options and offer thoughtful recommendations. What really impressed me was that many of Mike's best ideas didn't increase the cost of the project. He suggested installing a sleeve under the new driveway so I could easily run irrigation or electrical lines to the other side in the future, something I hadn't even thought about before he mentioned it and will almost certainly make use of. He also recommended embedding a drainage pipe beneath one area of the concrete so that, if drainage ever became an issue, it would already be in place and could easily be tied into. He also recommended removing the old porch step to create a seamless, modern transition to the front entry. As we discussed different layout ideas, including curves versus straight runs, he made it clear that the cost would be the same regardless of which design I chose, allowing me to focus on what looked best rather than what cost more. The workmanship was exceptional. The crew was professional, friendly, and obviously very experienced. You could tell these are craftsmen who have been doing this for a long time. They worked efficiently, never seemed rushed, and paid attention to the details. Mike stopped by every day, often multiple times, to check on progress, answer questions, and make sure everything met his standards. The project stayed on schedule from beginning to end, with each phase flowing smoothly into the next. They also went above and beyond at the finish by repairing stucco that had been disturbed during construction, rehanging my gate, and even patching some older stucco adjacent to the project that wasn't really part of the job. The finished driveway and walkways look fantastic and have completely transformed the curb appeal of our home. Just as importantly, the work looks incredibly solid. Even the walkways were built with the same attention to durability as the driveway. Nothing about the project felt like corners were being cut. The price was also very fair. In fact, another contractor I'm working with on a separate project, someone who frequently works alongside concrete companies, told me that the price I paid was very reasonable for the scope of work being performed. I recommend Mendenhall Concrete without hesitation. When I'm ready to tackle the backyard, they'll be my first call.
