Donald came out to assess the job and I was managing my expectations after another landscaper told us they were unable to do the work. Within a few weeks we had a reasonable quote, and what I liked the most was that Donald really took our situation into account (we had some existing material we were recycling). Scheduling was also reasonable and not too far out! Then Emiliano and Juan came to start the work I knew right away they would knock it out of the park because they looked at the renderings and immediately offered options and discussed all the details. The owner contacted me and expressed remorse for the actions of his employee. He personally came out and gave us a quote, and we used their services. Mr. Lewis was able to offer a discount for the inconvenience, and even replaced a broken board in our deck for us. Overall I'm happy with the work that was done. We had our back fence fixed, bark dust installed along the back, and trees put in for future shade in our yard. I contacted Lewis Landscape Service to provide an estimate on a job that would reconstruct some hardscape that was disrupted when a large tree was removed. I also wanted some steps that were poorly designed to be replaced with stone and to level a sunken area of flagstone. My online contact form included pictures of the disturbed area and the steps. Jim Lewis came out at the appointed time, and we went over the project. Jim seemed engaged and understood the scope of the work and said he'd have an estimate to me in two or three days. That was on a Friday. When I hadn't heard from Jim, or anyone else from the company, by the following Thursday, I sent an email to the address listed on his business card asking for an update to when I could expect an estimate. When I had no response from Jim, or anyone else from the company, I called the number on the business card on the following Tuesday (11 calendar days since Jim came to my home) and talked to someone who sounded like they were an answering service, but she claimed it was the office and would contact Jim for an update and get right back to me. You guessed it, crickets. Jim gave me a very nice glossy brochure implying a very professional company, but this kind of flaky customer service would make me wonder if it transferred to any services his company does supply. read more

Brad was assigned to our deck project. We obtained 4 bids, and felt Lewis represented the middle of the road which often represents good value. We chose an Ipe deck with iron railing to replace our existing cedar, and wished to make an area under the deck "dry". Brad recommended a pond liner as an inexpensive way to meet this need, and we had tongue in groove cedar installed as a ceiling. The work was completed during the pandemic, and we overheard there was an issue sourcing the Ipe which caused a slight delay. The team was lead by Miguel. The final appearance looked great with a few exceptions. The Ipe was installed with more gap than typical, but more concerning it had many cracks and warped sections at the end of some boards. We pointed this out 3 times, and were told it was normal. We asked about warranty if it gets worse and received different answers. The railing was not installed correctly. Fortress Fe manual advises coating the ends to prevent rust as follows: * Apply two coats of Fortress zinc based touch-up paint to the cut area. If touch up is at rail ends, allow paint to dry before connecting bracket to post. No paint was applied to the cut ends, and those pieces are exposed in many areas and now rusting. Holes where screws were placed are also rusting. Brad sent his crew out 2 times to fix a leak (below) and discuss the Ipe along with this issue and they still have not done any correction to the rail. It requires taking the railing apart to apply the paint before reinserting. When asked about the warranty since they aren't addressing this they gave the incorrect information which we had to provide them from the Fortress company which is 15 years but depends on correct installation. https://fortressbp.com/Documents/Fe26-Railing-Warranty.pdf The pond liner didn't work perfectly, and we have had leaks in 2 areas. They attempted to fix the flashing at the deck ledger board, but in heavy rain the underlying cedar still shows leaks. We appreciate that Lewis is a larger company, busy and seems to try to hit a middle of the road price point. One of the other bids was 2x as much, and may have been higher quality but one has to wonder. The other competitive bid was from a smaller family run business that we would select next time. If Lewis sees this review, we would welcome them finally correcting these issues, but felt compelled at this point to let others know for their own information. read more

I contacted Lewis Landscape based upon seeing their crews in my neighborhood in recent years doing yard maintenance and hearing positive things about their work from a neighbor. However, after what seemed like a promising start, I never ended up doing business with this company. I completed their website contact form with a description of the services I was looking for (a general yard cleanup to be followed by the creation of new flower beds and plantings). Someone from the office got back to me quickly to say that they were scheduling things a few months out and we set a date. A few days later they called to say some earlier times had opened up, which sounded great. When their person (I believe it was Andi) showed up, she very quickly indicated that they weren't interested in doing the work I was looking for. She said that they were primarily a hardscape company, they were very busy, there were other companies out there that would be better for me, etc. She did say that if I wanted a general yard clean up, that would be done by a two person crew for a cost beginning at $1,900 (but would be more like $2,500)! And, although she said she would follow up with an email with details, nothing was ever received. I guess if they don't want to do the type of work that I'm looking for, maybe they could delete those services from their website? Or when I contact them and say what I'd like, they could respond by saying that really isn't what they're looking to do? I mean, why waste everyone's time for no reason? read more

We are extremely happy with the work that lewis did for us. We were wanting a major overhaul of our front and side yards and they delivered! First they put us in touch with a top notch landscape designer and communication among all of us was clear and concise. When it came time to complete the work, the crew was timely, efficient and very pleasant to have around. It may sound inconsequential but these guys really seemed to enjoy their work and working with one another and that made it a pleasure to have them on site. Each night they carefully stowed their equipment and cleaned up the site in order to minimize the inconvenience to us and improve the safety of the area for us and our dogs. We hired Lewis Landscaping to lay new sod and do a front and back cleanup back in May. Patrick (not with the company anymore) and his team was responsive and did a great job completing everything on time and walking me through the proper lawn care so that we kept the grass in great shape over the summer. I'd hire Patrick again - not Lewis Landscaping. On August 24th I called Lewis Landscaping to schedule a clean-up and do some general care on the yard that they worked so hard on just four months prior. No one answered or called me back. I called again. I called again. I called again. I finally got a call back a week after my first inquiry that I missed and I called her back within two minutes of her leaving a voicemail. "Sorry office is closed try again on Sept. 4." which I did and had to leave another voicemail because no one in their office answers the phone. The receptionist who I was finally in touch with can't directly schedule an appointment and has no idea what the availability of their crews are. I let her know the time frame and said if it can't be met not to send someone out for a quote. (not sure why it was needed since it's a repeat of a previous job) She sent out Maximo but he couldn't get me a bid for four days and said there was no way to meet the necessary timeline. Had I received a call back on August 24th it doesn't sound like it would have been a problem. If the woman who handles the phones in the office at Lewis Landscape can't handle returning a phone call and has no idea what the schedules look like it might be time to find someone new. She not only wasted Maximo's time by unnecessarily sending him to my house, she also lost Lewis Landscaping my future business. read more

I contacted Lewis landscape back in June for a full back yard makeover. I didn't realize how busy they are and that it would take a full 2 months before they could get to my job, once I scheduled. I picked Lewis landscape, as one of my co-workers used them. I was amazed by their work. I was also impressed by the photos on their website as well. Brad Steyskal, who I highly recommend, was so attentive to detail and oversaw the project from start to finish. He came out almost everyday to inspect the work of his crew and made tweaks and suggestions as needed. I have to say, I was a little sticker shocked when I received the quote. However, this is something I knew my family and I would enjoy for many years to come. Once the work was completed (last week), my wife and I asked ourselves why we waited so long to do this! The space is Stunning! We just enjoyed a fire in our new fire pit tonight. It's the perfect space. I want to mention that I initially removed some of the work to keep the cost down, but then decided to add it back in once the work started. So glad I did!! read more

So happy with our new backyard!! We just bought our house and the backyard was awful. Full of prickly weeds, spots of dirt and no grass. And did I mention tree roots everywhere??? The first day the crew came out they wrestled with those roots and took the yard down to just dirt. I came home today (the 2nd day of work) and my backyard is beautiful!! We just had our front and back yards redone by Lewis Landscaping. My wife and I are quite pleased with the price, process, and ultimate result that was delivered. Our project manager was Scott Wilson and the job foreman was Oscar. Scott was incredible to work with. My wife and I weren't sure what we exactly wanted when we started the project and Scott did an incredible job listening to us, and translating our ramblings into reality. They worked with us on our budget and saw the project through to completion including the minor punchlist of a mis-firing sprinkler head or other minor adjustment. Oscar and his crew were friendly and hardworking and did a great job. The project started on time and finished only minimally longer than they projected, but were dependent on my electrical contractor, which caused part of the minor holdup. I can't speak to the negative reviews posted here as our experience was positive. Me being a salesman, I can tell readers that the old saying, "The customer is always right", is not true. Often the customer is wrong and many times have unrealistic expectations on price and/or service. We had another local landscape company bid the job, and found them to be more expensive, less flexible, and harder to book on the calendar. Kudos to Scott and Lewis Landscapes. I contacted this company in June. i dealt with Andi, who came to the house and explained being backlogged this summer and they could do the work in August, then Sept. No emails, no calls to give us an update, or even answer phone messages and emails! Today I found out they won't do the work because they don't have the plant material. We discussed this shortage in June, and said we still wanted to get this work done and gave alternatives materials to use. We never heard back from the company until today with a 'find somebody else'! So instead of working with us, they basically turfed us off onto other companies. So basically, we wasted this entire yr. waiting for this lame ass company JUST to get us on schedule. And now the dump. Please AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE! From day one until the day Lewis walked off the job site our project was a DISASTER! I will say, after reading this review, if you still decide to choose Lewis, be very wary of the termination for convenience clause in their contract. When things get sideways or don't work, they move to the next task, leaving the previous task unfinished. When they get far enough that they cannot finish, they will send an email and conveniently demobilize. They will then bill you saying they are almost complete only to find out there are a slew of mistakes that become costly, if not impossible, to fix. Before I get too far, I will say the crews they had onsite were hard working and really nice folks. The PM (Brad) doesn't spend more than 5-10 mins on site when he even shows up. It was clear the workers had no idea what the vision was or what the final product was to look like. I had to constantly watch over and even print the design plan for them multiple times to keep things on track. They quoted 26 days to completion. After 4 months they walked away at what they claimed was 85% complete (which was more like 50-60%). We had some poured concrete walls (which Lewis subbed out) but the attention to the details and dimensions created long term headaches. They miscalculated the walls which resulted in our steps and upper patio not aligning or steps protruding above the concrete which was never the intent. A solution was never found. They cut away wall foundations and cut slab stairs to make them fit in other locations which could affect long term structural integrity. The control joints in the walls were installed at an angle as the concrete sub had to revise the design intent because Lewis wouldn't dig the footings per the desire of their sub (they were told they could do it themselves). We requested this entire portion of wall be replaced. They opted to cut a smaller portion as a test knowing we likely wouldn't approve which now looks completely different and the joint is separating. They walked before it was ever fixed properly. The wall finishes are terrible and inconsistent. They failed to remove skim coating which they ultimately tried to chisel and grind away leaving a terrible result on our feature seating walls. Not to mention the tops of the walls are not consistent or level in most spots. These are all things a PM should oversee to make sure the end product is what the owner is looking for. We have a spillway water feature. The opening they provided didn't work with the fountain. The fountain basin wasn't formed deep enough and the water lines through the concrete did not allow the pre-fabricated basin to sit deep enough. And when we turned on the sprinklers the main water connection blew apart from poor installation. There is also no main shutoff for the water without going to my sprinkler main clear across the property. The paver patio they installed looked terrible. Joints do not align (and some of that is on the mfgr tolerances) but the cut lines were horrible which Lewis could control. Pavers and steps are chipped and damaged and multiple pavers had stains do to improper storage of materials. The sprinklers were supposed to be complete but I had to pay another contractor to find and fix plugs/sprinklers that didn't even work. We had a gas line installed for a fire pit. They didn't pull a permit and no one would touch the work as it had not been inspected. I had to do a pressure test myself and negotiate with the inspector to get approval and a permit. To cap it all off, I'm sure the owner will respond to this review with nothing but excuses. But he wasn't even willing to discuss when I called and emailed him multiple times as the project was deteriorating. They just continued to work and try to get as much money out of us as they could before they conveniently walked away. And as the owner will say, only negative reviews like this are posted. But only the good projects are highlighted in their portfolio. I would not recommend this company. UPDATE: As expected, the blame is placed on an "unreasonable" homeowner. Expecting a job to be done right and look professional is not being unreasonable. We know for a fact the project down the street was not twice as expensive nor twice as complicated. It merely required a lot more dirt to be removed. Lewis is very proficient at moving dirt. The project management, planning, concrete work, and attention to details on our project was well out of Lewis's wheelhouse and we wish they would have just been upfront about it. The concrete work set the entire job off course but as the general, Lewis should own up to it and not blame the homeowner. And not a single warning was ever given that termination was imminent. I admittedly lost my cool (and I immediately apologized to the superintendent) but 4 months of frustration will get the best of anyone. read more

We've been a customer since we had our yard first done over 12 years ago. Had no problems. Someone came and designed our yard, gave us a sketch and completed the job within the time frame given to us. We were very pleased so when we decided last year to completely makeover the backyard we were confident we were making the right choice with Lewis Landscaping. Our one and only complaint is the fact that we felt that the communication could have been better. We had to email several times to get answers about the design of our yard. Brad came to talk about the design in May 2021 with me but seemed to be in a hurry . My husband never got to talk to him as he was on a work call and I mentioned he'd be out in a few minutes but he had left after taking measurements without ever saying "goodbye" or "we'll be in touch soon", nothing. After several emails and complaining about the lack of communication where the design was concerned we were told that they were extremely busy. I would have also liked to have seen what the pavers looked like in person, rather than pick from pictures on the computer. Same with the synthetic grass. We had no idea what we were getting. So Brad sent us a concept sketch about a week and a half before the project was to start and answered questions we had about picking the synthetic grass. The workers were extremely nice and worked hard in the 100+ degree temps. They were finished within the time frame given. I absolutely love the job that was done, however, once again, we had an Italian cypress tree die on us within a few weeks after they were finished and have been trying to get it replaced since last September. We needed help with flooding and drainage in our backyard. Lewis Landscapes did an amazing job putting in a french drain, helping us redesign the area with rock that was dog friendly. They did an incredible job digging up a hedge and rotten wood stairs and putting in stone stairs. Would highly recommend them. read more

Jim contacted me and advised that the person who I was dealing with is no longer with the company. We are moving forward with LL at this point for Spring upstart because I believe we paid for and are still on the schedule. He clarified the vague notes of the technician and offered to possibly give a discount on the replacement should they do the work. As part of due diligence, I am going to get another quote on the Backflow replacement work, but it seems extremely difficult to find people who are knowledgable about sprinkler systems around here. 4 stars at this point :) ** Somehow I missed your email in our yelp messages although now I see it. Lewis Landscape just finished a 6 day project at our home, re-doing our back yard and installing a paver stone patio. Donald was our project manager and came out to our home, gave us a timely estimate, started and completed the project on time and on budget. The four man crew was hard working and focused on the job. Our yard turned out way better than we expected, in fact they cleaned up other parts of the yard that were not a part of the project which demonstrated their professionalism and pride in their work. Had them for the better part of 2 years and finally fired them. Had to remind multiple times to do the basics beyond mowing. Things like fertilizer, weeding, and how to trim the bushes. Often left areas not cleaned up. Even paid the extra fee for organic treatments but that seems to be an excuse to charge more for less. Then the kicker was the lawn they recommend putting in, doesn't like too much water. Which, in Oregon. When does it not have too much water. I should have fired them long ago, it's a shame I didn't have the time to do is sooner. Every quote after was $75/mo cheaper. Always thought you get what you pay for, unless your getting ripped off. And to top it off. When I told them I was done. The owner wanted to try to win the business back. Made an appointment, then was a no show, no call. read more

Although my review is a bit overdue, I still feel it is warranted since I only joined Yelp recently. Lewis was a landscape company I adored at the beginning. Every time the guys assigned to us showed up, they just knew what to do! Their work was impeccable. Sadly, the gentlemen were replaced with other employees within the company who were unable to perform as well. Weeds went untouched; plants bordering grassy areas were trampled; hedges went untrimmed; the same few shrubs received the attention of the trimmer while everything else was ignored. The grass obviously received priority but that was only part of the overall landscape! Lewis had shifted over to a typical mow, blow and go company and spent minimal time on our half acre. I was really sad. When I called to cancel our service and explain the situation, I was told that they were very sorry and going through growing pains. I am sorry that they took their growing pains out on us and lost a valued customer. I gave them a few years worth of weekly work which did not come cheap -- and well...I cannot say I would hire them again. read more

We are a annual customer on the sprinklers--a no brainer--and routinely have owner Jim Lewis over. Jim always has great ideas to make our yard function and please the eye. Trees? Done. Stonework? Done. Our latest project--a new lawn. Guess what? It's done. Lewis Landscape Services is fairly priced but above the others for promptness in service and end results. You get more than what you pay for. The office staff is nice, and the crews are friendly. Donald came by on July 19 to measure our yard (in Beaverton, OR) for paver work, promised an estimate in 2 weeks - no contact till date. I waited 3 weeks for someone to come by and provide an estimate and agreed to wait another 2 weeks to get an estimate (assuming the summer is busy for this line of work) but getting nothing at the end is poor customer experience. ----------- The owner, Mr. Lewis took time to investigate the situation, offered his apologies as well as a discount. I appreciate him taking the time to do this (and hence increasing my rating from 1 to 3 stars). There was NO Cussing during the conversation with your staffs. You can spin any word you want to say. Well if that made your company looks better by replying and focusing about my upset over the phone to defend your lack of customer service, how irresponsible and ignorant your staffs were. The responses from your staffs over the phone was ignoring, appearing Disinterested about what happened, did not take responsibility for the problem when the customer complained so that would only irritate the customer further and exacerbated the situation. I didn't receive the basic standards of service I expected from your company Here's why: 1. It took over 2 months and NONE of your staffs could give me an appointment set up (I have paid for service in March) 2. None of your staffs followed up to call me back with scheduling which I had to call many times to check in. 3. Service was performed at my property without my knowledge which I precisely asked for each time I called your staffs that I need to know the date when someone is at my place for the test. There were no follow ups whatsoever. 4. When service was done (without my knowledge/my permission) there was no copy of report, receipt or notice of service left to notify the customer. I called that Unprofessional, incompetent, irresponsible and unfinished service you provided. As a customer, it is natural for me to expect the company to notify me. There was NONE, not even ONE appointment was scheduled. You the owner and your office staffs are ignorant to understand where the customer is coming from. As a customer, I have expectations of how services should be completed, especially when a company is said to have a good reputation. read more

Do not do business with this company. There customer service does not care about what they say. They told me it would cost $17 to fix a sprinkler head that was missed on their first service call. They then come out and argue the fact that the sprinkler head was missed on the first visit and charge my family $70. How nice since I was traveling on business and my wife gave them a check. I spent over $350 the first time to get a couple of valves and heads replaced and now another $70 because they are dishonest. I spent a total of $670 this summer with them and wish I could take every penny back. Absolutely dishonest. read more

The secretary told me WE work on small project all the way to large projects, However after this incident she said well, we do work with more upscale people! we really do not do work for such a small amount! He states i was combative? flat out lie, I was in too much shock to move!! I noticed he has alot of one stars, hmm wonder why? HE is a flat out liar, and has been given false information from his staff, LOKK at his stars he has more bad reports than good!! I do not recall asking him for anything free He made that up himself, who knows why? none of this is made up , please believe me when i tell you they will treat you like dirt unless you have millions! talk about bad breeding and greed at its finest, and a liar taboot! I've owned my own service business for 12 years & so, as a service client of Lewis Landscape, I was extremely shocked that Jim Lewis charged me hundreds of dollars to send someone to come fix a sprinkler that they had already charged me hundreds of dollars to fix. Bottom line is, they were unable to fix it twice. They stood behind the expensive charges of unsuccessfully messing with my sprinkler apparently, because without telling me they were doing so, they sent it to collections. They don't have any regard for the service industry or their clients. When my company is paid to repair things, we do it, or we don't charge. How are they in business? Stay away! read more
