I had Ace come to my home a couple of months ago to re-key two doorknobs. After they left, one of…read morethe doorknobs would catch occasionally and not open even though it wasn't locked. I lived with it for a while as it would open after jiggling it a little. Recently, it got worse, so I called Ace to come and look at it. When the tech got here, he said they "don't fix that" but he could replace it the doorknob. He was here for maybe a half hour total and installed a new $40 doorknob. I was charged $307 dollars. Apparently, I was charged $90 just for the guy to drive here and $175/hr (one our minimum). I found this to be absolutely outrageous, especially given the fact that I didn't have a problem until Ace re-keyed my locks. I will never use them again and I strongly suggest that you don't either. It's no wonder people can't afford to live when business screw people like this. Disgusting.

Buyer Beware!! Service update (Tee W.)…read more I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from StarTech. Several years ago, I invested nearly $8K in a home security system and home theater installation. Recently, with a business trip coming up in two weeks, I discovered my security cameras were offline...a recurring issue since installation. Although I've always been willing to pay their $100-$150 service fee to get their cameras back working, this time the experience was unacceptable. The representative I spoke with was not only rude but extremely unprofessional, repeatedly lying about submitting my "urgent" service request. Despite following up for three days straight, I received no response. She even went so far as to hang up on me after I introduced myself, only to avoid answering when I immediately called back. Her behavior was erratic and unacceptable, so I asked her to have the owner return my call. I finally received a call back from the owner, Eric, who accused me of being rude to his staff and refused to service the cameras he had installed. Instead of acknowledging my years of business with them as an easy going, paying customer, he dismissed me outright and told me to find someone else. As a result, I was forced to leave my home unsecured for weeks until I was able to find a new technician who installed a more reliable system that hasn't had a single issue since. I regret trusting Eric and his team to handle the job. I strongly caution anyone considering this company. They will happily take your money, but they do not value their customers or stand behind their equipment or work.

Solid Alarm System and Capable Installation…read more We had ADT replace the non-central alarm system in our new home. The existing system was old and both prior owners had "forgotten" the master code (you can tell how concerned they were about security!). After some research, I reached out to ADT and they had a salesperson come by and do a walkthrough. She was thorough and pointed out some potential security issues. She was not pushy and worked within the budget we gave her. After a few "false starts" scheduling the installation, they agreed to do the installation off usual hours. The technician was prompt, courteous, neat and did a nice job explaining all the functionalities. We have used the alarm the past several days and have been quite pleased thus far.

I was told on the phone by ADT that my equipment would be free. I told them how many doors and…read morewindows we have and that we need a motion detector too. I assumed the monitored fire and smoke alarm may cost something because they would not tell me how much it costs on the phone. I set up for the technician to come out. He informed me that the equipment was not free like I was told. It would be just over 2,500 dollars and that was after I was given a 600-dollar credit. So, in total my system would cost a bit over 3,100-dollars. I asked for another option and after trimming back the system that he designed it came to around 1,000-dollars. I am so happy that I had the foresight to not sign the contract before the technician came out or I would be stuck with a huge bill that I was not expecting. My advice would be to get a clear and detailed list of what will be installed and how much it will be before signing any contract with ADT.
