I was told on the phone by ADT that my equipment would be free. I told them how many doors and windows we have and that we need a motion detector too. I assumed the monitored fire and smoke alarm may cost something because they would not tell me how much it costs on the phone. I set up for the technician to come out. He informed me that the equipment was not free like I was told. It would be just over 2,500 dollars and that was after I was given a 600-dollar credit. So, in total my system would cost a bit over 3,100-dollars. I asked for another option and after trimming back the system that he designed it came to around 1,000-dollars. I am so happy that I had the foresight to not sign the contract before the technician came out or I would be stuck with a huge bill that I was not expecting. Most disappointing. We have been ADT customers for about two years. We needed to replace several exterior doors, which would require the system to be temporarily disconnected. Prior to replacing the doors we met with ADT's Solutions Advisor who agreed to restore and reactivate the system; prepared an Additional Services Rider in the amount of $371.00 plus an added $2.79/mon charge for a Quality Service Plan to "cover" the new sensors; and, reached agreement with the installers as to how best to coordinate the work. ADT was notified when the doors installation was complete. ADTs technicians (there were four who attempted) advised there was a miscommunication with the Installer and that additional and in my opinion exorbitant, charges would be necessary to restore and properly reactivate the system. We felt additional charges were unfair; that this was entirely ADT's responsibly; and, the six weeks without the system and the services we prepaid a year in advance is unreasonable under the circumstances In that we are not at fault. The Solutions Advisor referred us to "Corporate" and then conveniently disappeared. Not sure if there is a direct result but, after appealing to six or seven Corporate Agents along with letters to ADT's President and CEO, and to the Senior Vice President of Customer Relations, the Local Manager was somehow motivated to take the necessary to reactivate action. ADT it seems, does not take seriously its Code Of Conduct which states in part that ADT is committed to delivering a consistently excellent customer experience particularly as concerns outcomes and solutions. read more

Purchased ADT system - had terrible problems getting it started with set up. 4th try with Tech support was a disaster. I had purchased Smart locks for my front and back door. When the tech guy tried from his end to set my security system - he went into the WiFi side and turned it off and restarted. At that time my smart lock to the front door disengaged to the WiFi and now does not work when I leave my house and try to code my front door key pad. The technical support is very UNKNOWLEDGEABLE. Recommend you be savy in this field to bypass their tech support. After calling back on the 4th try they finally got me a tech manager who told me what I need to do. I have been a customer of ADT for 13 years. Over the last year my system stopped working properly and had a difficult time getting a technician scheduled. Finally yesterday the tech arrived late, and after working on the system for quite some time basically states the system only could communicate when sun was out and weather made it stop communicating both internally in my house and with ADT. That's insane! Additionally I've had on going issues with Zones and contacts that won't work. They've repeatedly sent me batteries which after changing still not working correctly. When the tech came he only changed the batteries again not replaced the sensor which I suggested when I made the appointment. My system has not worked correctly for over a year. Last night at 3am the system chimed repeatedly that glass break 34 was not communicating... same as it was before the tech appointment which took weeks to get. Today I called and spoke with a customer service advisor and requested 1) a credit for the last year of it not working and 2) a tech to come tomorrow and make it work properly, the answer was no to both. 2-3 weeks for next appointment. And offered me an upgrade but that would cost 2000 over 35 payments for the hardware and increase from 59 to $81 a month for monitoring....What??? 1) system can only work when it's not cloudy 2) supervisor 'Mary" I spoke with said they'd only credit 2 month on new upgrade but still have to pay for installation and increased rate 3) the new system would work in all weather as it uses different cell towers - so clearly they know my system which can't communicate has not worked I cancelled and reporting to BBB and will seek my credit through BBB. ADT phone rep informed me that ADT now charges at beginning of month if you use AUTOPAY or if you login and don't pay attention and just pay what the system suggests. I think its extremely dishonest to issue me an invoice with a clearly itemized amount due, but allow the online payment system to collect differently. It's been almost 6 weeks since we had ADT install alarm systems on 3 doors and put in a doorbell camera and backyard camera. The alarm systems work OK but in order to get the cameras to work they had us switch Internet providers that took 10 days, install upgraded WiFi, and after 3 different technicians looked at the non-working doorbell camera they said we needed an upgraded transformer. After waiting 7 days for an electrician to put that in we still don't have a working doorbell. Very frustrated - and we still don't know why the battery on the doorbell goes out after a few hours and we still don't get it to ring inside the house or on our phones as promised. BUT - have any repairs done or additional items installed and you better read the fine print - besides paying top dollar for materials and installation, you are automatically agreeing to a two year contract with outrageous cancellation fees. Every time you interact they will try to up-sell you for systems, like Pulse, that YOU have to pay to install and they then add more monthly cost for providing the same degree of surveillance. So from the beginning, the contract signing was sketchy at best - the service was awful and inconsistent - (all red flags) - but I went on in desperate need of a security system. 1.5 years later, I've been blessed with terrific growth in my business because of treating people RIGHT, and so we are upgrading spaces and doubling in size - with no need for the system. ADT wants nothing to do with it. I tried to cancel, I even agreed to pay what I would consider a "normal" exit fee of $200 or less. But they insist on a $800 exit fee. Are you kidding me? What business in this day and age can get away with the following: 1) 3 year commitment - no out clause. 2) An $800 exit fee (or 75% of your total contract). I feel like this has to be impossible. I have been a customer with ADT for five years until ive said enough. This company has no problem taking your money but when the time comes that you need their help they just don't care. Last year one of my sensors stopped working so I called them and requested for a technician to come and fix it for me. I scheduled 6 appointments and they never showed up. Long story short I was lured to signing up with this company. They said $100 rebate when u sign a 3 year contract, $100 if u were referred by ADT existing customer. So yeah they owe me $200. Its constantly going off for no reason whatsoever and we've had to replace the system completely once because it was faulty. We get woken up in the middle of the night for no reason because the system goes off at random times. Solid Alarm System and Capable Installation We had ADT replace the non-central alarm system in our new home. The existing system was old and both prior owners had "forgotten" the master code (you can tell how concerned they were about security!). After some research, I reached out to ADT and they had a salesperson come by and do a walkthrough. She was thorough and pointed out some potential security issues. She was not pushy and worked within the budget we gave her. After a few "false starts" scheduling the installation, they agreed to do the installation off usual hours. Based on that experience, I installed an ADT system at my new home in Maryland about 5 weeks ago and it has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. First off, the ads that were sent to the house suggested that the system installation would be free but the technician who came to the house did a full review of the home and advised an installation of a $3000 system. I balked. I stuck with just a basic system and paid several hundred dollars instead (still several hundred $$ more than I thought it would be). Several nights after the installation, the garage door sensor fell off and scared me and my boys to death. I am a widow and single mom. ADT sent a tech to fix the problem. After this guy came out, I decided to upgrade the system after our house was egged (another story.... but it seems ours wasn't the only house and it was likely teenagers with nothing else to do). Here's where the nightmare really begins.... the next guy (#3) comes out and installs all of the window sensors wrong which I point out to him, but he assures me that it's the only way he can do it. The way he has it set would only allow for the sensor to detect motion if the lower window pane is opened. If the upper window pane is opened by a burglar, that motion would go undetected. He spent 4-5 hours here to install a system that was only going to work if the burglar chose the right window to come through. After guy#3 left, the doorbell camera he installed starts beeping after a few days and WON'T STOP, so I'm up in the middle of the night with ADT on the phone working through how to make it work including turning off the power to the house to reset the thing and it still doesn't work. I have to pull it off the door and leave it idle on the floor. Also, the driveway camera that was installed by#3 was triggered by the tree leaves moving but not by me going to my car from my house despite my adjusting the camera windows multiple times to ensure the correct area was under surveillance. It detected me if I walked the dog and was coming back to my house, but not if the kids and I were coming from the other direction. That kind of selective coverage is not what I paid $300 for! (yep - they charged me $300 for that camera). Both the doorbell and driveway CAMERAS ARE LIMITED TO 30 SECOND CLIPS, and THERE IS A DELAY ONCE THEY ARE TRIGGERED, so if someone is at your doorstep for longer or breaking into your car, you'll just catch the first 30 seconds of that. The person would have to go away and everything would need to be still again before motion triggers the cameras again. This glaring limitation was not shared with me when I bought the cameras - otherwise I would have surely gone with Ring which I had in California and which is hecka cheaper and which films the entire time someone is in the frame. I called ADT yet again (getting someone on the line can take HOURS unless you are calling sales- I guess once they have you under contract, you are a lesser priority) to make yet another appointment. And so guy#4 is scheduled to come in a 4 hour time range. It's a pain to have to wait around for someone to come, but that's the process. #4 comes and I go through the whole story and he says sorry I wish I could help but I can't because the entire ADT server is down. This was not the only time in the past 6 weeks of my new service that the entire server has been down. Uh..... really? I schedule to have another visit and Guy#5 comes a week later with a trainee (Guy#6). Not sure why, but they send someone different each time - there's NO CONTINUITY. When I show 5&6 around and explain the problems with the cameras and the window sensors, he agrees the window sensors were installed incorrectly and says they need to be reinstalled, but they didn't have enough time and would come back the next day to do this. 5 and 6 come back as promised and they do their work (another 4 -5 hours). They install new cameras and fix the window sensors. The next day, I realize the new driveway camera does not film anything. It works as a live camera, but no clips are taken whatsoever. Until it rained. Then I was sent 300 notifications of clips of rain. I call guy 5 who gave me his personal cell because he felt sorry for me when I told him of my saga. He said he'd come back but he hasn't - even after a couple more calls. I called ADT again today after a 2 week break which I needed because I am working, and we've just moved, and I have kids, and their dad is dead. I now have an appt for next week with a 4 hour time range for guy #7 to come out to to fix the driveway camera. We'll see. I've called ADT Loyalty multiple times because I've lost a colossal amount of time on this. They offer little to make it right. adt forged my name on a work order then withdrew 59.00 from my checking account. the technician shawn or sean, never showed me a work order, i never signed any form. all bioxes on the form were checked off as though i had authorized a payment. there was a scribbled mark underneath my printed name. my attorney has told me this is forgery and a crime. i had two key fob batteries replaced. read more
