Avoid using Sheila Ridgway…read more We were looking or a TEDRA "expert". Sheila Ridgway has a prolific internet presence, and that is all. We trusted Sheila Ridgway with our TEDRA case and that was our mistake. First of all, she has no physical office address other than her condo on Capital Hill or her deceased parent's home in La Connor, WA. Whenever we asked to meet with her in person, our request could never be accommodated. Her paralegal Melida Heien is located in "Floyds Knobs Indiana" Sheila seems to be disoriented at times. We posted documents to her website as requested on August 6, 2026. On August 17, 2026 she sent an email confirming that based on what we provided; "she could confirm there was a Trust". On September 16, 2026, she told us on the phone that "she wasn't sure if there was a trust" and claimed to have never received the documents we had uploaded to her website on August 6, 2026. She is either confused, senile or just stupid. I do know that she was rude on the telephone and not willing to explain or guide us through the TEDRA process. At times, I felt I knew more about TEDRA than Ms. Ridgway did. She allowed 35 days to pass between the time she sent a "demand letter" to the successor trustee; for which she charged $700 for a one-page letter and drawing up a petition. We had to push her to open a petition with the court. The petition was not even drafted until well after the 15 days the successor trustee had to produce the trust. The petition was not filed until October 2, 2026. Shiela Ridgway misled the opposing council by telling them she had filed the petition in court on October 1, when in fact it was filed on October 2. Ms. Ridgway then followed up with an email to that same council that "we had not filed anything". When the successor trustee's attorney started sending disparaging information about us to Ms. Ridgway, she did nothing to defend our position of "simply requesting copies of the trust and will". Our October 2 filing was then removed because Ms. Ridgway did not pay the $290 filing fee to the Clark County Superior Court. I only found this out by checking the courts website and by calling the Clark County Superior Courts Clerk. Ms. Ridgway did not tell us that she pulled the filing. When we sent a very angry email to Ms. Ridgway, instead of explaining why the petition was withdrawn, she informed us via email that neither She or Melida Heien would be not representing us going forward. We do have to thank Ms. Ridgway for quitting as our attorney. We knew from the start that Ms. Ridgway had no intention of litigating this case. We had started looking for other attorneys prior to Ms. Ridgway's departure from our case. When I mentioned the name Sheila Ridgway to her peers, I received comments: "She used to be a good attorney". That could explain why her only 4 star review was in 2021. Save yourself a headache and find someone who cares to represent you.

I hired their lawyer James Lobsenz for my appeal, and really feel sorry for this person. I don't…read morethink he knows how to respect people ( I am an Asian speaking with accent). He at first disappeared for almost 2 months after receiving $45,000 from me, he didn't reply any email I sent him. Then, one time, he yelled at me on the phone out of no reason ( maybe my accent irritated him?). When I tried to say something, he said he didn't understand what I said, and started saying what he wanted to say. Another time, I emailed him I felt too depressed to call him, and right away I got his call. ( Is this some sort of abusive behavior? Or he doesn't know what respect is? Weird thing was he hanged up in the middle of conversation, and emailed me he tried to call me back, but I didn't answer the phone, while I still had my phone in my hand, and no call coming) He always did his work at last minute, and never sent me drafts for comments or feedback before filing to the court. ( he seemed to forget that's my appeal? Or he just doesn't know what respect is?) When the appeal was denied, he said he didn't have much time to prepare petition for review. So he would file a motion for reconsideration, which would be denied for sure, but it would give him more time to prepare for petition, and of course, I had to pay for the time he spent on the motion which was going to be denied for certain, that's about $8,000 after I got the invoice. In the end, I paid him $44,000. I was glad I finally fired him because I really didnt know if he wanted to help, or he just wanted my money, and "pretended" to help. I have been treated with disrespect and abuse by this lawyer. I actually felt at the 2 time meeting he didn't seem to want to help after talking to former lawyer Anna Tolin ( Tolin law firm) who has tried to persuade me to give up my right to my appeal. But I didn't know why he decided to take my appeal, if he didn't want to help.

What stood out most in our interactions with Stokes Lawrence was the firm's approach to the record…read moreand communications. In our experience, the firm relied heavily on enforcement language and broad accusations, while avoiding direct engagement with the underlying written record. When we responded using timestamped emails and contemporaneous documents, the posture did not shift toward clarifying facts or reconciling inconsistencies. Instead, communications tended to reframe issues through selective characterization rather than document-based correction. Equally telling were the non-responses. When we asked for clarification or invited the firm to identify what, specifically, was false, the lack of a substantive reply spoke for itself. Repeated non-answers and unsuccessful attempts to challenge factual statements say a lot about the strength of the narrative being advanced. Rather than disproving what we raised, the firm's replies tended to confirm a pattern of pressure and deterrence, with little direct engagement with the record. The more the firm responded, the less credible the opposing narrative appeared. Their communications did not resolve inconsistencies; they highlighted them. When counsel's position conflicts with the client's own contemporaneous emails and documents, it reflects poorly on the client and makes the overall story harder to trust. For context, we interacted with Stokes Lawrence while it represented the other side. If you are considering hiring this firm, we recommend getting clarity upfront on strategy and objectives. In our experience, the posture leaned more toward liability containment and escalation than factual reconciliation or resolution.

Stokes Lawrence failed my family when we needed them most. My father hired them with a very clear…read moreand urgent goal: to protect my legal rights in the event he became incapacitated. Despite knowing this, they drafted documents that ultimately did not protect me -- and never warned us that such a devastating failure was even possible. When I sought answers and help after the fact, I was met with delayed responses, hollow apologies, and empty referrals to other attorneys who "might" help -- with no real effort to correct the damage they caused. Their handling of this situation showed a complete lack of care, accountability, and professionalism. Hiring an attorney is an act of trust. Stokes Lawrence broke that trust completely. They were negligent when drafting critical documents, negligent in advising us, and negligent in standing behind their work when problems emerged. If you value your family's well-being, your legal rights, and your peace of mind, stay far away from Stokes Lawrence. They are not the experts or advocates they claim to be.
