Reading reviews and some magazine articles, I was drawn to this place when visiting (a very barren and depressing, but historically important, downtown of) Altoona during the holidays. Cutting to the chase, the brown ale was good, definitely merits the 4+ ratings on beer sites, no doubt. Brewery part of the stop was well-executed. Food took things in a very wrong direction.... Concern being that I ordered a simple mac n' cheese (I guess "large" size - $13.50, what?), adding some "famous pulled pork," which ended up being $16.50 or something along those lines - I received a MICRO, emphasizing MICRO order of mac n' cheese in a small bowl that probably cost them $1.25 to make - great, flavors were just very average and they seemed to be all jazzed that it came with chopped jalapeno on the top. Fancy, y'all. Cost-wise, one pint of beer and this incredibly tiny meal cost over $30, post-tip (still hooked them up) in a dead downtown that frankly needs all the business it can get. Got gas one the outskirts and the strip malls are absolutely surging, which would usually be a major bummer for me, but honestly not in this case after getting econo-slammed. I was honestly shocked there weren't those neon signs in cursive that said stuff like "chow down, chug down," grass on the vertical wall, and other basic things, but I was probably too preoccupied by the fact that every table had "hold for reservation" and I wasn't pointed to sit places, with the bar being full and all, until I asked. Summary - MID, MID, MID food that's in small portions that is an absolute shill in 2025, in a community that's on it's downside economically. I ordered online for pickup on a Wednesday night. I went with a Caesar wrap and added grilled chicken for an extra $5. It was decent, but I wish there was an option to have it toasted. It was also missing the kettle chips listed on the menu, but it was not worth a return trip for me to have this fixed. The Imperial soft pretzel also fell flat for me because it was a bit overdone and not the buttery, soft kind I was hoping for. Since I wasn't dining in, I didn't try any of their beers, but it seems like it could be a fun spot to come back to with friends for drinks. read more

I really enjoyed popping by Levity. I was looking for a late lunch near downtown Altoona and was recommended to come here. I ordered the gyro and I loved it. Leigh was my server and she clearly loves her job. It shows in the service she provides. I got to taste a few beers before committing. It was a perfect place to sit and work. I am really happy places like Levity exist in Altoona since they bring a bit of levity to the sort of slow town of Altoona (see what I did there?...I'm sorry). The beer is pretty good, has a huge selection, and is at a good price! Same goes for the food, which is served in large portions and usually covered in salt and cheese - which is just what you want from a brewery! I love the inside which has beautiful hardwood floors and exposed brick, giving a refurbished nod to Altoona's history. Service is fast and staff are very nice. They give it a small town feel in being welcoming and making sure you feel like your needs are met. Come here for some good food and beer and then explore downtown afterwards! read more

First off the food we got was ok not good not great but ok if and when you got it. They messed up half the order and didn't even give us the other half and had a hard time getting the money back. Which leads me to the largest problem with this place you have to stand in line to order your food and drinks and they want a tip for that I am sorry if I have to stand to order my food there is 0% chance of a tip let alone when you guys can't even get the order right. Leigh was an absolute delight! Long trip home and decided to check out Altoona for lunch along the way. The BEST Italian hoagie (was a special) I have ever had, which actually says a lot since I'm from New England and have had many. The ham was perfect. It was taco Monday and my husband had shrimp tacos, again, super delicious. I can't recommend this place enough. We decided to give this place a try even after seeing no reviews because the photos looked inviting. Apparently, they just reopened after dramatically expanding and remodeling.
