What's on tap when visited
Mike W.

First time here as visiting for the week. Love this place and the set up. Had the pretzel and a few of the Belgium on tap. It was trivia night so it was packed. Amazing patio only - only complaint is there 1 checkout station and I feel bad for the waitress who can't check out with their clients. Maybe the owner can check into Toast POS and get the waitress a handheld POS system for cash out Can't wait of what's to come as they grow Also I would suggest changing the tip suggestion away from 15%, 18%, 20% or custom as 20% is the new standard in 2022. Don't cut yourself short of an amazing staff

The food was good, but the service was very slow. They had only one waitress, to serve the whole bar and all the tables.

Reading reviews and some magazine articles, I was drawn to this place when visiting (a very barren…read moreand depressing, but historically important, downtown of) Altoona during the holidays. Cutting to the chase, the brown ale was good, definitely merits the 4+ ratings on beer sites, no doubt. Brewery part of the stop was well-executed. Food took things in a very wrong direction.... Concern being that I ordered a simple mac n' cheese (I guess "large" size - $13.50, what?), adding some "famous pulled pork," which ended up being $16.50 or something along those lines - I received a MICRO, emphasizing MICRO order of mac n' cheese in a small bowl that probably cost them $1.25 to make - great, flavors were just very average and they seemed to be all jazzed that it came with chopped jalapeno on the top. Fancy, y'all. Cost-wise, one pint of beer and this incredibly tiny meal cost over $30, post-tip (still hooked them up) in a dead downtown that frankly needs all the business it can get. Got gas one the outskirts and the strip malls are absolutely surging, which would usually be a major bummer for me, but honestly not in this case after getting econo-slammed. I was honestly shocked there weren't those neon signs in cursive that said stuff like "chow down, chug down," grass on the vertical wall, and other basic things, but I was probably too preoccupied by the fact that every table had "hold for reservation" and I wasn't pointed to sit places, with the bar being full and all, until I asked. Summary - MID, MID, MID food that's in small portions that is an absolute shill in 2025, in a community that's on it's downside economically. So frustrating that places like this are highly-touted.

It was ok. I'll start off by saying that I'm not much of a…read morebeer drinker. My partner is though. We came in to get drinks to go with our food (we got food from the food truck outside "Firebox"). The food from Firebox was good and it was a generous portion for the price. The drink options that were not beer were limited, and half of those options on the menu weren't available. My partner got the berry chocolate stout and said it was "pretty good". We hoped to sit outside, but the only available table had broken glass all over it from a busted door. It does have convenient parking and I liked the industrial decor. The service was good and the lady was very nice. One thing I will point out is that one of our glasses had pink lipstick on it from a previous customer. But if you only want beer and a place to chill - it might be just right for you.

I also appreciate the ample outdoor seating available. Always a big plus for me, even if the outdoor area is really just tables set up on the sidewalk overlooking the parking lot - as it is in this case. The service was fine. It wasn't crazy busy there but the bartender had a little edge to her like we were more on an annoyance than a patron. They have a refill club where you can buy a mug and get your name printed on it with discounted refills. Again I appreciate that kind of thing, but the bartender seemed way more interested in some of the regulars than us. Just the vibe she gave off that night I guess. And lastly the beer...it's solid. Not great, but solid. Lots of darker beers which is fine for me personally, but the darks outnumbered the IPAs, pilsners, etc the night we were there. I'd expect a little more variety. Still, it's good enough that I'd go back next time I'm in Cumberland, but not so good that I'd make a special trip out of my way. My scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive up to 30 minutes just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

The atmosphere is cool. You can see the brewing stuff through glass and the historic photos being used as wallpaper and the old truck at the entrance are cool. Maybe because it was the holidays but they might have been short staffed. It took quite some time to receive our food but we got a basket of breadsticks to munch on while waiting for our entrees. The kids menu pizza is a pretty decent sized pizza and comes with a cookie. The fried zucchini was loved by all and served with a side of horseradish sauce. It was flat slices of zucchini that was breaded. The zucchini still maintained some structure so it was not super greasy nor floppy like in some places. Breadsticks have a hint of garlic and they were warm and soft when they arrived. The crab rangoon pizza was sampled and loved by all. It has a crab dip, crispy wonton strips, and a drizzle of sweet chili sauce (it's sweet and barely any heat). Definitely need to try their pizzas here. The crust appears thin but holds up well, even with leftovers. The adult grilled cheese is very flavorful and filling! It comes with a dipping sauce. I eat a lot and filled up with just half the sandwich (but I did have fried zucchini and a couple breadsticks while waiting).
