Sometimes I could use a 1/2 star rating. I'd give this a 3.5/5 instead of 3/5…read more We arrived for an October morning full of all things fall. It's a good thing we decided to get there when they open because when we left around 1130, the line was very, very long! We got in line for donuts. They were pretty ready. I was put off by a female employee who was smoking while working. She lit it up after walking out of a door nearby. She had the cigarette in the palm of her hand holding it with her pointer finger and thumb. That was not cool in my book. We waited in line for a wagon to take us to the pumpkin field. We waited not too long for that. While waiting so walked into the nursery area to look at all the flowers... mostly mums. Pricing was fairly reasonable. We finally got on the wagon. It was actually a pretty good ride to the field. We were dropped off and have free reign of the field. We could stay as long as we would like. Then we take a wagon back when we were ready. There was some confusion or lack of communication on how picking and paying for pumpkins went. We thought we would pay by weight and not the whole, "pay a set rate for as many as you can hold while taking 3 steps." A staff member was very kind to us when we returned. We were about to go back out and get more pumpkins to make it worth our trip. There was also confusion on entering the kids play area. We had tickets online, but did not realize we needed to go I see the gift shop to get the wrist bands. The ground in that area where the inflatables were, was really hard in the feet if you took your shoes off in order to play on/in the inflatables. We ended up telling our kids to keep their shoes in to avoid an injury's. For us, this was a one and done.

Rude staff and overpriced, nothing more needs to be said. I've been a couple of times and things…read morehave just become continuously worse.

This place was so packed and we went on a late Saturday evening, thinking all the families would be gone. Haha we were wrong. It's cool that a lot of the kids' activities are free, just be patient enough to wait in lines. There doesn't seem to be any order in terms of where to go to pay for pumpkins. There weren't any signs for prices or where to go to pay. The pumpkins were all spread out. A lot of pumpkins didn't have stems, probably due to people lifting pumpkins up by them. But overall, nice and free activity for the kids.

I'm not great at sign language but I know a bit so we spoke some. He seemed happy to find someone who knew sign language, even if I only know a little bit. He runs a small stand with some beautifully decorated/painted pumpkins! The pick your own pumpkin patch in the back was pretty much destroyed or the pumpkins were rotten. So that was a little disappointing but there was a very nice, good, selection of pre-picked pumpkins up front that you could choose from. So that's what we did. The adult corn maze was in rough shape as well but it was fun and easy to get through. As someone whose never been through a corn maze this was fun. Lol These two issues could just very well be since it's the end of the season though. So they absolutely wouldn't stop us from coming back. There was a hayride, a large slide for kids, and a hay maze for kids as well! They also had a wide variety of Gordes, miniature pumpkins of all different sizes, etc. I had wished they had more of the super tiny orange pumpkins, but again, end of season, they may have just been out. Over all we spent only $51. We got two large pumpkins, apple butter, 2 or 3 medium pumpkins/gordes, and several small pumpkins. So compared to other pumpkin patches my husband and I have been to, this was definitely very cheap and fun! The decorations are nice, it's simple, and well worth the money! They also sell a large variety of pumpkin carving kits too! So undoubtedly if we're ever in the area again around this time of year, we would come back.

I love everything about pumpkin, so when I read about College Run Farm (CRF) serving homemade pumpkin ice cream, I was sold. My boys and I decided to take advantage of a gorgeous fall day and drove to CRF in Surry. If you've been to Chippokes State Park, you know how rural that road is and narrow. CRF is right up the road past Chippokes' entrance. We figured we might be the only customers there; we were shocked to see a full parking lot and many people. CRF has pumpkins available already picked, but what's the fun of that? We went to the pumpkin patch with our sheet in hand -I posted a picture- and cutters in order to cut the pumpkin off the vine. My boys decided they wanted Aladdins, and they were in Section 1, easy to find. My youngest picked a small pumpkin ($6) and my two older boys wanted bigger ones (regular $7). CRF does not weigh pumpkins and you use the honor system. You put down which pumpkins and how much on the sheet; put your pumpkins in your vehicle; and then you take the sheet to inside to pay. While inside, you can also purchase admission for the corn maze ($3 per person--free for 5 and under), which we didn't do, and homemade pumpkin ice cream, which we DID do--FTW! I thought their ice cream was a pretty good value: big waffle cones with two scoops for $3.50--especially being homemade. They also serve homemade strawberry ice cream in the spring during their strawberry season. We enjoyed CRF; it had a relaxed feeling, and we loved being able to pick our own pumpkins off the vine. They don't have lots of fall festival stuff such as a bouncy house or hayride, but that was fine with me. Surry is a bit of a drive from Suffolk, but combining a visit with Chippokes State Park, it could be an awesome day.

Went here recently with my parents to enjoy the nice day and get some fall activities in. It's nice that they let people 60+ in for free so my parents didn't have to pay, and my basic ticket was $10. The all-inclusive pass is $25 but frankly this isn't really worth getting except for families looking to use the children's attractions like the slide and bounce house. There were plenty of chickens wandering around, as well as ducks, pigs, and other assorted barnyard animals in various pens which were fun to see. The pumpkin launching thing was a blast though $10 for three small pumpkins to fire is pretty pricey. The apple cider donuts were expensive too, 2 for $5 for small donuts. Thankfully the short hayride experience was included in the admission. While this was a cute experience, I think the main draw is for families with young children who would make the most use of all the activities here or older folks who are able to enjoy it for free. Otherwise, there's not much for those in their 20's-40's to do, though I did enjoy the brief time with the pumpkin launcher. If you have kids, definitely come! Others might want to review their other options. --- Overall: 4.0 stars Pros: - Nice staff, very friendly and helpful. - Inviting family-friendly atmosphere. - Free for 60+, not too expensive for others if you skip the kid stuff. - Plenty of stuff for kids if you're here for that. Cons: - Everything is a bit of an abridged version of things you might find elsewhere: very short small hayride, small play areas for kids. - Nothing to do for those without kids, nothing like rope swings or wine tasting.

I had never gotten a rotten pumpkin, so I didn't think to inspect it thoroughly. Drove 45 minutes home & sat my $13 punkin down to decide on decorating. Bugs later appearing & when I flipped it over, I noticed it was rotten. Had to throw it outside. (I usually but Cinderella or Fairytale pumpkins bc I like the taste. I usually only put the cheap pumpkins outside.) Personally, I'll stick with college farm. This farm did seem to have a lot for children to keep entertained & sold clothes, fresh eggs, & other jams, etc. (For kids, I prefer Dardens. The owner loves to educate kids & allow them to touch everything. They have breast cancer pink pumpkins that they donate money to fight breast cancer. They also have great pies & smoked ham.)
