Stumbling on this gem's strawberry ice cream was hands down the biggest highlight of our most recent trip to the Williamsburg area.

Unfortunately, I missed out on their blackberry season that happened in May. In addition to the blueberries that were available for picking, peaches were sold in bushels placed on a table in their "store". Sometimes the owners are there to receive the money, and other times they run a honor system. Pencils were provided to write on the envelope to place it into the wooden box. The prices and size were posted on a sign the minute you walk inside. They were very reasonable, and fair compared to other farms. It was a hot sunny day, so the hubs picked quickly, since he tends to get sunburned and cranky lol. I'm the opposite, so I picked to my hearts content:) The blueberries were fresh and smaller than I'm used to. It tasted sweet and a little tart. The best part of it all, was that it was organic! Nowadays everything is sprayed, but this farm doesn't do that:) We revisited a few more times for picking. I knew the season was coming to a close, and needed some more to freeze. I made some cakes, and muffins out of the blueberries which lasted a few days. I sort of wished, I picked a large bucketful, cause as I'm writing this there is no more in the freezer. I'm sad lol We will be back!!!!

Originally, we were going to do one gallon but then switched to two quarts so we could split up and pick. They are cash only, so make sure to bring cash with you. There were so many blueberries to pick from. Rows and rows of ones that were ready to pick and others that should be ready in a week or so. There were a lot of flies and bees, so be cautious if you're allergic, but they didn't not bother us.

I can't think of a better way to spend a day off than soaking in the charm of Sweethaven Lavender…read moreFarm in Williamsburg, VA. From the moment you hop onto those winding country roads, you feel the stress start to melt away. Parking is a breeze. It's literally an open field where you just pull in and park wherever. It's casual and easy, like everything here. The entrance is warm and inviting, and the women at the front stand welcomed us. You can immediately tell that every inch of this place was created with intention and care. Even the little playhouses for kids are painted in such charming colors. I visited toward the end of lavender season, so the fields weren't at their peak, but honestly it didn't matter. The wildflowers were in full bloom, and the sunflowers were just starting to bud. We had a blast feeding the sheep, who were clearly used to visitors and more than happy to accept snacks and attention. The gift shop is a must. It's packed with lavender goodies of course, but also a bunch of unique, cute items. I walked out with the cutest bee T-shirt & enamel pin. Then there's the café, which had everything from sandwiches to lavender ice cream, cotton candy, slushies. Yes, we tried it all! The lavender ice cream stole the show for me. I'll be back for my lavender ice cream fix! One of the best parts was spending time wandering the flower fields and cutting blooms for our own bouquet. Sweethaven feels like a dream. Everything about it is thoughtful, beautiful, and full of joy. I left with a full heart, a bag of goodies, and lavender ice cream on my mind. Already counting down the days until we visit again.

I chose a mix of them and I was glad the person checking me out wrapped them separately so I would know which one was the culinary bunch. Their shop also has lavender lemonade and lavender snacks. I picked up a lemonade and a lavender brownie. Both were delicious. The live music added to the atmosphere. They also had the cutest farm animals.

Sooooo cute! And right in my backyard! Just off Seaboard road in the field beside Wave Church…read more Last year they planted later due to COViD. But this year they're open in late June. Peak blooms are in the next 4-5 days. Follow them on Instagram for up to date info on blooms and hours. Super friendly staff. $25 gets your group in and you can get 10 sunflowers. They'll give you a bucket but you can bring your own shears (or they have some to borrow) and they'll wrap them for you too in cool napkins for the drive home. Suggest if you have a long drive you bring some water for them. The sunflowers are beautiful and plentiful and there weren't that many bugs. Also - this is a large field of sunflowers so you can really spread out. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We roamed for half an hour before we saw other people. They have a small boutique selling themed items all featuring their bee or sunflowers. Adult shirts are $25. The bee pins are $10. A sunflower coloring book with colored pencils is $13 or $10 for just the book. Etc etc. Love love love!!!!

Is a "pop up farm" a thing? Yelp has a category for "attraction farm"- I guess that fits!…read more Goldpetal is a beautiful maze of sunflowers. Not the "you'll get lost" kind of maze, more like a "you'll want to get lost" kind of maze. They opened on August 27th and reached max bloom on September 2nd. Their Facebook page indicates that you may only have another few days to catch this season's blooms. We went on a Thursday evening around 5:30 and only had a short line to get inside. The line was much longer when we were leaving around 7pm. It's $20 for 10 stems. That includes entry for up to 5 people. You can get an extra 10 stems for $10 and I think military gets an extra 5 just for showing their ID. You can't just go for the pictures, you've gotta pay. Dogs can come too- just make sure they are on a leash and you may want to bring water for them if you're planning a longer trip. They give you tips and the rules before you enter and supply you with a metal vase and cutters. I'd suggest bringing a basket instead of using their bucket though. After that the field is all yours. They have several different types of sunflowers. We got a little carried away and now I don't know what to do with all our flowers, not a bad problem to have. "By the time you're reading this it's probably too late." Cryptic, but if you're reading this after Labor Day weekend your best bet is to bookmark this for in your Summer 2021 collection and sign up for their mailing list on their website so you don't miss out next year!

They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. If you're looking for a fun strawberry picking experience, give them a try!

A solid 4.0 place…read more After driving by this place many times we finally stopped and checked the place out. We didn't buy any meats but looked over what was being offered and seemed fair priced compared to the chain places. My guess is that these would have been way better tasting though. Maybe next time. We just didn't need anything today. Now I will say this besides some nice looking ribeyes, this is clearly the place to go for exotic meats. Frog legs, bison, and alligator just to name a few. We did buy a few sandwich's and our review is based on that. The wifey got herself a roast beef sandwich and I got a ham and cheese. Both were packed with meat. Very filling. Now don't get me wrong you'll pay for these sandwich's but with the meat they stack on you won't be mad. We both like our sandwich's and remember what I said about being full of meat - my wifey brought 1/2 of hers home. As for me - I finished mine but won't be eating an early dinner :). The young lady who made our sandwiches took care of us and the other customers by herself and I think she did real well. The place offers no inside eating but a couple tables outside near the front door that are covered and a couple picnic benches next to the building, uncovered. Today with the sun and heat - covered was our choice. So again after years of passing this place - I'm glad we stopped. Decent sandwiches. I'm sure we will stop in again.
