It's the kind of store where you can easily find something for just about anyone and any occasion. They have a great selection of greeting cards and some of the most unique wrapping paper. Prices can run a bit high, but that's part of the charm since many of the items feel thoughtfully curated and aren't the kind of things you'll find everywhere else. The staff is consistently friendly and always greets us when we walk in. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind gift, this is the place.

Located in the quaint, lively, historic retail district of Carytown, Merrymaker proudly holds the title of Richmond's oldest stationery shop. The space itself is small-but-mighty, with everything from locally-made greeting cards to an impressive selection of planners, calendars, and notepads in literally every shape, size, and color. They also have rack upon rack of specialty wrapping paper, and an entire corner of the store is dedicated to custom stationery. At the front of the shop, you'll find a jawdropping selection of pens (including fountain pens) in every shape, color, and price range. Of course, I couldn't leave here without a small notebook (or two), a couple of lovely postcards to send to friends back home, and the determination to start my own fountain pen hobby "someday." Bonus points for the super friendly woman at the front counter!

It's curated with love. The people who work here are extremely passionate and helpful. I came here with my manager and we had a blast. She ended up getting a few postcards and a travel planner. I fell in love with a small journal I got for about $16. I loved the journal because it reminded me of the Canal Saint-Martin, I'm excited to use it for card game scoring. There is really something for everyone here. There are lined journals, blank ones, squared one, and more. There is a huge variety of planners with different layouts. It felt like they had something for every preference. Not to mention, the fanciest pens I've ever laid my eyes on. I highly recommend checking this local gem out.

I stopped at UPS and instead of driving somewhere else to get wrapping paper, I stopped in Paper Plus. It smelled sooo good in there and the service was wonderful. I was promptly greeted and shown where the wrapping paper was. I liked the selection a lot and although it was pricey, I left with two rolls of paper (for $20, mind you). I was mad at myself all the way home for spending that much on wrapping paper, BUT! When I got home, I immediately noticed the amazing quality of the paper. It was thick and beautiful paper! It was actually a pleasure to wrap gifts with it. I used up both of the rolls and now my gifts look amazing under the tree. I saw a bunch of other really nice items in the shop, but I was on a mission and didn't get to mill around much. Look forward to my next visit!

The prices all felt very fair with a majority being in the 20-25 range with a couple on the cheaper and more expensive side. I was trying on a Taxco silver jewelry necklace/earring/bracelet set and couldn't decide if I wanted to purchase it. The kind/stylin' person at the counter offered for me to take a picture of the set, so that I could think about it and come back later, should I decide to purchase it. She then laid the set out on a display tray, so that I could capture the set's essence in an iPhone 6 pic. Unfortunately, my forgetfulness made an appearance alongside my indecision and caused me to accidentally leave my earrings, the ones I was wearing when I walked in, on the counter. Also unfortunately, I was on a bus back to D.C. when I noticed I was earringless. I called up Bygones immediately (TG 4 YELP -- THE INTERNET's YELLOWPAGES) and spoke with an employee who said she would mail the earrings back! She was so so nice about it and I am very heppy.
