The maple toast was sweet, delicious and just what I wanted today. A cute place where you can sit out on the sidewalk or inside the cute little coffee shop you order at the bar. They call out your name for coffee and bring your dish to you. Everybody was nice and welcoming. Now when I walk into a building looking at me you can tell which way I voted and inside this place 99% of the people voted in a different direction. That doesn't bother me and it didn't bother them. They treated me with welcoming spirit and a wonderful meal. All I could think of is I woke up for breakfast but what did I care? Wonderful meal with wonderful people in a great little town. While the group waited outside at one of the sidewalk tables, I went inside to order at the counter. I got the chicken salad sandwich and have to say I was so surprised by how delicious it was. I'm not from here, so from just the outside and where you order, I thought they were a cafe first with food options, but nope. Definitely wrong, they make a great sandwich. And the coffees were also delicious! Baristas and team were all friendly, the space inside was very cool, cozy and comfortable and they had plenty of outside tables as well. You order at the counter and they will bring all of the food out to you, you also grab your own waters inside. A nice mix of casual and service. If I was local or visiting when I needed a space to bring my laptop and get some remote work done, this seems like a great option.

It boils down to a poor decision to change coffee brands from the excellent Counter Culture to some small batch, no name mediocre choice. Perhaps when this small roaster goes out of business, they'll switch back. They've fortunately stuck with Iggy's for breads and treats and the service and vibe remain strong.

But its consistently troubling issue is the large amount of flour caked on and baked on the outside of the loaves. They use an extreme amount of flour on the raw dough as a release from their baking baskets, and after the bake they just leave it all stuck to the loaf. When I bring a loaf home I often spend a few minutes smacking it and scraping it over the sink where I dislodge so much raw flour from the outside of the bread. Sometimes there's a rind of undercooked flour cemented to the outside of the loaf. This is wildly unacceptable.

The West Street Coffee & Tea boasts a humble parking lot, but the sizable line of parking spaces allows cars to park and then usually drive forward to depart. This fits that the five to six tables are set well in each of the rooms they rest, with ample light from the interior and exterior. I could imagine the drink staff would keep up with a variety of orders that are park and departing, so be mindful that there is parking at other corners of the plaza rotary on busy hours like at other restaurants within Amherst. Busses do travel by, and I'd suppose those from the PVTA that go between Amherst and Hampshire might even stop here. For a quite accessible location, I can only imagine they enjoy being a secret delight of this area of south and east Amherst.
