I called JT because my computer kept crashing for no apparent reason, and in trying to fix it, I made it worse. It wouldn't even boot. I looked for help on Craigslist and found JT. For a very reasonable fee he promised to fix the computer. He came to my house the next day and got it to work. I paid him and he left. 30 minutes after he left my computer rebooted on it's own again despite the newly installed operating system. I called him and he asked me to bring the computer to his place so he can figure it out. I did. In the next couple of days JT kept me updated on all the tests he had to perform (which often required pulling components out one by one to isolate the issue). The issue it turned out was a faulty motherboard. OUCH. He laid out my options for me and we decided that we can save the computer if I buy some new components for it. JT met me at Fry's Electronics and spent almost two hours with me selecting a new motherboard, and RAM. I got myself a larger internal hard drive as well. JT took the parts home and basically re-built my computer. This included installing a hard drive for me just because I asked him to. When I brought the computer home it worked like a charm. Still does. Now here's what makes JT great... ( aside from being competent, responsive, and friendly through the entire experience) ... he never charged me a penny more since that first night. Professional Care and Conduct. Very thorough in walking me through the repair. Where others wouldnt touch my hard drive damage, because it wasnt worth their time to diagnose. Jimmy took a chance on it and gave me a free diagnostic and if he couldnt fix it, there would be no fee other than the replacement logic board. In the end, it was beyond repair. My wife's Dell laptop was infected with malware & viruses, rendering it completely useless. I tried fixing the problem myself, but alas, my pc skills are limited at best, and so the laptop has lied dormant for the last six months, buried behind furniture in our apartment. When it first happened, I had called some computer repair shops, both big and small, to get a quote on removing the infections. The cheapest quote was $100 minimum which was just ridiculous to me. Although I couldn't fix it myself, I knew this was not a difficult job for someone more adept at Windows machines. Fast forward to a few days ago. I grew tired of my wife constantly borrowing my MacBook Pro, so once I was able to wrestle it from her iron-grip, I went on CraigsList to investigate laptop repair once again. He said it would likely be just a fraction of the previous lowest quotes for the job. I was amazed at how LOW that quote was so we scheduled a time for me to bring it by. Finding a computer technician is like looking for an auto mechanic. Not sure who to trust and if you're in good hands. I don't know anything about computers and didn't want to deal with the big guys so I got on Yelp and found JT Computer Repair. I gave the guy a call and he sounded pretty decent on the phone. I explained what seemed to be the problem and he quoted me based on my explanation. I told him I would call him back as I wasn't sure if I was getting a good deal. I conferred with my IT experts at work and they all said the quote was reasonable. I finally met up with Jimmy and I knew I could trust him based on his demeanor. What I liked about this whole experience was that my computer issue was really minor and he could've lied to me but he chose not to. I knew what was wrong with my laptop: the fan had spit the bit, seizing up and letting components overheat. I also knew my abilities when it came to disassembling and reassembling laptops: poor at best. I just needed someone competent to wrangle with things on my behalf, get things back in good working order. JT Solutions did admirably on this front. The quote was about as expected - "like $X for parts and $Y for labor", something along those lines. "It'll probably take four business days for the part to come in." So I left my laptop with them... and waited four business days... and got a phone call, letting me know everything was right as rain once more, for precisely the amount quoted. And it was! I am penning this review from that very same laptop, brought back from the brink. No pesky up-sells of things I'd never need. No pushing for installations of certain softwares because it'd give someone somewhere a kickback. No covertly-tacked on service fees. Just a straight-up request for things to get all patched up and finding everything all patched up upon the equipment's return. That's great! I spent about 30-45 minutes trying to figure out the best way to attack my problem and he didn't charge me a dime! Some places charge $100 just to take a look at the problem. My Dell Laptop had unexpectedly installed Windows 10 automatically after a period of use. This caught me by surprise since this has never happened before. Previously, my computer was configured with Windows 7 . I wanted to revert back to Windows 7 since the new OS was not working for me. The fan would be running but nothing would appear on my screen. Many of the drivers were missing. I tried to restore to the original factory settings but was not successful. Then, I called JT Solutions. I spoke to Mike and he had been extremely helpful. He told me exactly the type of software I needed for re-installation and what I needed to do. He even suggested that if I come down to the office, he would make a copy of the installation cd for me. I was ecstatic! The cd worked great! I saved $70 from going to another store to perform this installation service. Rarely do I go out of my way to endorse a company but these guys deserve it! Before I start, I want to give kudos to Jimmy (the owner of JT solutions) for his helpfulness, clarity, and professionalism. I came here just a few days ago to fix two laptops. After Jimmy's initial consultation, he hypothesized that both computers had something wrong with the hard drive, though he was clear in telling me that the issues could still be linked to other parts of the computer. I dropped both of them off, and he approximated that the first computer would cost up to 225.00 to fix and the second, 200.00. He also assured me that because he wasn't going to be in this office, one of his employees would get back to me around 2:00 pm. Also, I appreciated the fact that he waived the 50.00 diagnostic fee because he figured that the issues wouldn't be too difficult. So, 2:00. One of Jimmy's guys calls me and his suggestions were as follows: "For the first computer, we need to reinstall stuff because of memory issues." Cool. Price? About spot on. Second computer... didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I mean, I appreciate that he called me right on time, but there was no diagnostics procedure as far as I knew. Then, I asked again about the first computer.. "You do realize that this one had impact damage and Jimmy said hardware would most likely have to be replaced, right?" Guy tells me to hold for five minutes. Comes back and tells me (I kid you not), "Yes, that too." So naturally I ask, "Wait, so there's more... for sure?" And he rambled about some tech info and why he suggests doing both completely pretending to neglect the fact that I just told him what the problem was. So in conclusion... his advice, "Yeah, uh... do the re-installation and replace the hard drive." Why did I have to throw that on there? It should have been documented already. He was also thorough in mentioning that the only way I'd get a refund is if I buy the hard drive, get it installed, and also purchase the OS. New total? Almost double. At that point, I just asked to pick both of the laptops up. I reminded him there was no diagnostics fee, and he complied but was hesitant, indicating perhaps that he wasn't even aware of Jimmy's promise. Holy communication meltdown, Bats. Ultimately, I'm just irate because the employee pulled me along on a string. Fail diagnosis, and fail service. BTW, this comment's going to disappear. Jacob is very helpful to upgrade SSD and Ram for the HP folio I13 ultrabook. The 256GB SSD is not so easy to find in market places. He quickly help me to find it and replace it within two hours. If you need a great computer repair person, look no further. First, I had never had to take one of my personal computers to a technician before so I had no idea who to call, but I did know that I wasn't going to one of the big chain stores. I turned to Yelp and found JT Computer Repair (who had several great reviews) not knowing what to expect. I was in a bit of a panic on a Friday at about 5pm when I called (kids schoolwork due on Monday etc). Jimmy answered the phone, I walked him through what was happening and he was quickly able to get an idea of what might be wrong and let me take the computer to him right then. I dropped the box off and he told me it would be a few hours but would call when he was done. He went and got the parts needed - called in the timeframe that he said he would and let me know that he was having a bit more trouble than expected so it would be done the next day instead of that same night (which was fine). It turns out it was due to a tiny usb device that I had left in the computer but given all his experience with Dell computers, he was able to figure out the issue and all worked as expected. When I picked up the computer he gave me the receipt for the parts he had to buy and only charged $75 for the labor. I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am now that I know who to go to for fast, dependable work and fair prices. My laptop was making funny noises, so I asked my buddy to look at it. He took it apart and said it was dirty. When he gave it back to me he also gave me a zip lock bag of random screws, and it was still making funny noises. I had an issue with my 2008 Mac Pro not booting up. I suspected it was the NVIDIA chip causing the issue but Apple loves not fixing known issues. The extended warranty that they had for "known problem" expired on Dec 2012. Not wanting to deal with the so-called "geniuses" at the apple store, I sent my sad Mac to someone for repair. The repair place I sent my Mac to said that the issue was the logic board and that they didn't work on them because of the high failure rate. Sucks to be me. So happy to have my laptop working again!! JT Computer Repair did a fantastic job with my Apple MacBook Pro and Jimmy was such a professional. As soon as I called him, he was already troubleshooting over the phone by my description of the problems I was encountering. I could tell right away that he knew his stuff and that he was a guy that would do a great job. As soon as we took it over, he got to work on it right away and it took him less than 2 days to repair it. I had to have my hard drive replaced and he was able to transfer 99.99% of the data to my new hard drive. The 0.01% was not able to transfer as it was located on an area of my old hard drive that was faulty and causing a big part of the problem. I am just so glad he was able to save and transfer as much as possible. As long as my hard drive was being replaced, I had it upgraded from 250 GB to 500 GB and while he was at it, I had my RAM upgraded from 4 GB to 8 GB, too. Now, it is like having a brand new super computer! Service was prompt, and quality of work is excellent. I think his prices are very reasonable and fair. I am so happy to have had a great experience. Had a huge laptop problem during finals week, and only had a week in SJ to fix it. I saw that great ratings in Yelp and decided to try JT Solutions! I called him and he gave me a quote to replace my fan, so I went over and dropped off my laptop. But little did I know, there were bigger problems in my laptop -- an irreplaceable tiny plastic part, that would make my keyboard obsolete, would cost me more than $150! Jimmy was very helpful, and advised me on what I should do. I decided to have Jimmy to just fix the fan and I would take my sad laptop home because it would cost too much. If you are having computer problems, look no further than JT Repair. After trying to fix my computer myself without success, I didn't know who to turn to. I had tried to install a new hard drive, but was not successful. So I did a search on computer repair in San Jose and saw very favorable Yelp reviews for JT Repair. After reading the reviews, I was convinced that the owner, Jimmy, was a nice guy. I had some concerns, though, as to whether he would be knowledgeable enough to fix the intermittent problem with my computer, since those kinds of problems are the hardest to diagnose and fix. It turns out that my concerns were completely unfounded. I discovered that not only is Jimmy a really nice guy, but he is also thoroughly knowledgeable about computer hardware and software. My computer appeared to have a failing disk drive, but the real problem turned out to be a failing motherboard. Jimmy correctly diagnosed the problem, even though some diagnostic tests both he and I had run indicated a failed hard drive. He then offered to buy the appropriate hardware, which saved me a trip to the store. He even returned the hard drive I had purchased for a refund. Throughout the process, Jimmy provided very reasonable labor estimates for the work that he was to provide. He provided updates to me about the progress he was making, and was able to finish the repair much faster than I thought possible. Jimmy is an excellent technician - FOR BOTH SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE issues. He resolved the problems with my custom-made, 3 yr old desktop computer by proceeding through the problems, keeping me informed, getting my permissions at the critical steps, and then proceeding to the next step. My computer is now working like new and better than it has in a long time. I had previously tried an on-line supplier of computer services which turned out to be a bad choice. They charged me about $360 for two years of service. After I signed up with them there were a number of issues - some software and some hardware related. They did not explain up front that hardware-related items were not covered. Moreover, they convinced me to buy a two year subscription so that I would get Microsoft Security Essentials. (I later learned that this software is free). They provided a host-service whereby they were given access to the computer on-line. This also proved problematic because when they completed the work, my Outlook no longer worked. In trying to resolve this problem, they ultimately told me that I had a hardware issue and they couldn't do anything else for me. (Unfortunately, in the heat of the battle we don't ask all the questions we should)! Jimmy offers a service contract that includes on-line support for the software issues but, more importantly, also includes computer drop-offs if the issue gets more complex and may require a hardware fix.
