I called back twice without a response until the next morning before our appointment and still nothing. Finally I got ahold of someone stating we were only 2 times per month and that there's a waiting list. But they called another provider that's accepting kids. So frustrating! Why take our information, schedule a session and then cancel stating there's a waiting list? I suggest doing more research on third party providers for Kaiser. Apparently certain families aren't worth their time. Not an easy process and they certainly made it more difficult for my family. Single dad, four kids and simply tossed to another organization for whatever reason they deemed.

Our son Fox doesn't always open up to people or is comfortable with those he is unaware of or hasn't met before. He quickly began to trust Katelynn as she gave him the space and time to do so. The first time we met Kayelynn we were greeted with so much compassion and her desire to help Fox was refreshing. She is so patient, kind, organized and willing to truly find ways to support Fox in his development. The difference that we see in Fox in these last three months is phenomenal. The facility is nice--a big pool, ample chair & bench seating for observing, 2 restrooms, spacious changing rooms, a play area with some simple items, vending machine, & a hair dryer for use. Music plays in the background. Communication was facilitated through email, phone, text, & in-person availability. We always found staff helpful. They also had a box for comments & praise for staff. Our kiddo did 2 sessions with 2 designated instructors. However, she ended up working with 3 other substitutes several times as well. You are given advance notice, & luckily our kiddo would go with the flow, but some kids might have a harder time if they need more trust & consistency. We generally found the instructors to be encouraging & positive. There's a fine line between pushing too hard or not enough, & they seemed to try to find that sweet spot. Little one would get pep talks when needed. She enjoyed the bit of free play at the end of the session as a reward for her efforts. We appreciated the post-class progress checks from the instructors. A ribbon system created positive incentive & moments of pride when earned. It's notable that other dynamics will impact your experience. It was really nice when we had a time that wasn't too busy compared to another time that was quite crowded. Though signs are in the play area regarding supervision & playing nicely with items, I still observed poor behavior & lack of supervision. Also, waiting for the dressing rooms was disorganized. Though a pseudo-line would form, some people opportunistically jumped in ahead. In hindsight, it would be helpful for staff to remind & emphasize some parent behavior expectations & create a system for lining up for the dressing rooms.

David explained their philosophy & curriculum, and made sure we were a good fit for what they offered- this is not just an after-school free play program. We were invited to sit in on a class, which we did. There is a fully printed & bound curriculum workbook that coincides with the daily lesson plans. They have their own printed posters & supplies (nothing is cheaply thrown together here). The teachers are topnotch bilingual & trained- which I personally appreciated as there are other programs that just think because someone speaks Spanish, that automatically qualifies them to teach. Not so. Most importantly is that my daughter enjoys going to Spanish. I was worried that she'd get burnt out or bored and that it would become pulling teeth to get her to go. NOT EVEN CLOSE! The curriculum is engaging & interesting, her teacher is responsive and encouraging, the class size is small and the children are friendly. We are 4 months in, and my daughter sings in Spanish, teaches ME Spanish words, translates material, talks to others and orders her own food at Mexican restaurants in Español. We recently went on a family trip to Costa Rica and she was interacting the the locals and acting as our interpreter the entire time. The structure in the ST classroom (full immersion, no English spoken) enables the kids to think in Spanish as they learn, rather than translate the English words into the Spanish words in their brains. The teachers are all native speakers which means the kids are learning proper accents and enunciation. The curriculum is tailored to the kids' level and is clearly communicated to the parents at the beginning of the year and throughout the year. There are also several presentations per year where the kids present on various subjects, as well as progress reports given to parents. Overall, a phenomenal program and I would highly recommend it.
