So totally understandable, but still more change than ideal for kiddos who really yearn for structure, routine, familiarity, etc.

I'm not sure what happens after visiting hours but it seems like there is little to no staff to help in the case of an emergency, maybe they are sleeping on the job... or just don't know what they are doing... either way.. this is NOT a place I would send any loved one intentionally.

Knowing that my son could really benefit from OT therapy, I contacted the Alta Regional Center who referred my son to Monica at Little Bird Courage Company for an evaluation. She came to our home this past Tuesday and was with us for over 2 hours. She is extremely knowledgable and worked very well with my son. He was tired and fussy and she gave him all of the time he needed. She also took the time to explain a lot of things about our son that we did not know, like why he did certain things and how we can help him modify negative behaviors. I really appreciate the time she took to explain my son's behaviors to us because in all of the evaluations he has had no one ever tried to help us gain a better understanding of my son's ASD and Monica did.

Her manner is one of patience and kindness yet targeted and gets the job done. Her understanding of her profession goes beyond expansive. She IS the expert and has devoted a lifetime to children in need of her services. She teaches other OTs! As a teacher I saw OTs work with my students, but they never were as targeted in their objectives and approach as Bev. As a grandmother I have observed Bev work with my little ones and I am in awe of her understanding of the brain, body mechanics and knowledge of how children are wired, the effect that core strength has on things like speech and executive functioning. Bev is able to explain the why of each activity she incorporates into a session and it just makes so much sense! And to add to all of this, children have FUN at Vista. You did NOT "get our mom back to the hospital." SHE told us she needed to go because her basic needs were not being met and she was in pain. Your staff wouldn't even call 911 when she requested medical attention. Yes, we spoke with your staff about our concerns. We gave your facility more than one opportunity to fix the issues. My sister even spent the night to make sure our mom was safe and receiving the care she deserved. Despite those conversations and our efforts to advocate for her, nothing changed. That's why she ended up back in the hospital. Your response to our family's reviews is completely off base. In fact, it reinforces our biggest concern--that administration has no real understanding of what is happening in residents' rooms on a daily basis. Your statement that, "I can tell you all love your mom and it's emotional and stressful," attempts to paint a picture that our concerns are driven by emotion rather than facts. They are not. They are based on what we personally witnessed, documented, repeatedly reported, and ultimately experienced. This was never about unrealistic expectations. It was about a lack of basic care and basic needs being met. Period. I strongly feel that we were led to Katelynn for a purpose and a reason and now I see why just in the growth Fox has made. Our son Fox doesn't always open up to people or is comfortable with those he is unaware of or hasn't met before. He quickly began to trust Katelynn as she gave him the space and time to do so. The first time we met Kayelynn we were greeted with so much compassion and her desire to help Fox was refreshing. She is so patient, kind, organized and willing to truly find ways to support Fox in his development. The difference that we see in Fox in these last three months is phenomenal.
