Originally hailing from Casablanca, Morocco, Chef Rafiq is a graduate of Boston's Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. After working at several Boston restaurants, Rafiq decided to start his own food truck. Chez Rafiki's serves authentic Halal Mediterranean cuisine made with fresh local ingredients. Some of the menu staples include falafel, chicken shawarma, gyro, kofta, and salads. Chez Rafiki's travel all over Massachusetts bringing their delicious food to various craft breweries, festivals and private catering events. I recently enjoyed some food from Chez Rafiki's at Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton. I was visiting the brewery with my two-year-old son and we decided to get some food from the food truck. I was excited to see that Chez Rafiki's was the food truck that day because I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. After looking over the menu, I decided to order Chez Rafiki's Special: the "Chicken Killer" (Rice, Fries, Chicken Shawarma, Pickled Red Onion, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Garlic Sauce, Feta Cheese). I also ordered a side of Falafel. I absolutely loved the Chicken Killer; a symphony of Mediterranean flavors and spices. My son has never tried this kind of cuisine before. He wouldn't touch the Chicken Killer but he absolutely loved the Falafel. He happily gobbled down half of the Falafel balls. I would definitely order from Chez Rafiki's again if I saw them at another brewery or festival.

I had the choripapas and a slice of the tres leches cake, and both were delicious. Placed my order in Spanish over the phone and ordered right when they opened mid-afternoon. As others have mentioned, it's a little pricey but glad to support a local business in town!

Then saw a few people with take out orders. I'm glad I brought comics with me (asked the waiter if I could go get it while I waited for churros - read later). The vibe I got was if I were in Colombia, this is the cafe style with no windows with their music playing I expect to see and dine in. Now, if you had their food when they were a food truck, same food fare except now they serve drinks! I enjoyed the Caipirinha more, the surplus of lime makes it a spiked Sprite. The Mamasita lemon flavor was pretty good, too. I appreciate that they have a TV with a rotation of food/drink options for people who have know clue what items are. The Butifarra had a nice little heat to it, wish they had a fork or knife instead of a toothpick to let some of the hot air out. Had the Monster Burger during their truck days, love that it has cheese, eggs, bacon and the bacon patty. For dessert, I wanted churros, but the waitress forgot, so I got through half my comic before I asked about it. Waiter came back and asked how many orders of it did I ask for, 1 or 3, told them I only ordered 1. Turns out, churros came out as single or 3 at once, so I ended up with only 1 churro. Even with the limited parking, slow service and communication, I am hopeful.
