Our move was from UT to CA. The driver checked up about every other day prior to the date to make sure we were still on track for the move. They arrived about a day earlier to UT and called and said they would be at the house Fri instead of Sat, which caught us off guard. We rushed Thur evening to get things packed, but weren't as ready as we had hoped. The movers got right to work at 7am, and before long they were tearing down beds, dismantling other furniture at a rapid pace (there were 5 movers), and were going so fast that they started throwing things into boxes that we weren't aware of or approved for them to do. Some of these items were set aside for our trip, but they didn't question; they just packed. So while they got done with our 6 bedroom home in just over 8 hours, several things were packed that we didn't want (many were set aside and clearly not with the other boxes). The movers were genuinly nice. They asked us to supply bottled water, which I thought was a little weird, and also asked me to order lunch (although they did pay for lunch). I assumed movers had their own water and such...maybe not. We also provided the cups, ice, napkins, plates, and they didn't have the decency to clean up afterwards; they left the mess in the garage for us to clean up. Bottles and other trash were left on the front lawn, with no thought to clean up.
They did fill in every inch of the truck. Therefore, some of the boxes were somewhat smashed, but I'd say some of that was due to the packing (some of which they did, and some that we did). They did not use any floor mates/coverings for the floors. No damage was done to walls, that we noticed. They advised damage can occur, and that "it's just part of the job", no indication that they would pay for repairs.
On the day of the unload, they were at the house at 8am ready to go. They put together everything they had dismantled. Again, very quick and efficient. Only damage was done to the bottom of a large bookcase, solid wood, where they rubbed on the ground when moving with a dolly. This was noted and pictures were taken, and they again said, "this is a big job, something is bound to get damaged; just part of the job". So we'll see if anything will come of it.
Overall, satisfied with the move. It was a big job, and nothing major happened. I would probably recommend again, but would definitely take a different approach the second time around. read more
