Breakfast is always good here. I've been here dozens of times & literally there has been nothing wrong with the food ever. My issue is I could not get a 2nd cup of coffee today. That is 2 out of the last 3 times I've gone there that this has happened. I tried to get someone's attention for a while. When I'm sitting at the table w/ empty dishes & looking around that might be a sign I need something else. Even a server from another section was pouring coffee but never made it over. Went in on a Sunday around 11:00 am with my mom dad sister and her three kids. We called ahead to have our name put on the list. We were seated approximately 5 minutes after arriving. Our first waitress seemed to be in the weeds so (without us asking) another waitress took over our table, Marissa, she was good, knew the menu and handle our big table well. The food is HUGE, each plate can be shared between two people easily. Omelets, bacon, ham, potatoes, pancakes, waffles, and biscuit were awesome. Lots of choices on the menu, but I'm 99.9% everything in the menu is good. Recommend for family meals. Just like any restaurant on a weekend, expect to wait a little bit for food/drinks, it's busy. Lester's Diner in Margate is part of a small chain of diners in South Florida which offer large portions of mediocre food for low prices. That formula brings in the customers at all hours. Several times I have eaten at Lester's diners in various locations. Only the first time did I choose it myself. The succeeding times, someone I was having brunch or lunch with suggested Lester's, which was the only reason I ate there. I would not have chosen Lester's if I could choose. For me, life is too short to waste on mediocre food. Yesterday, four of us dined together at Lester's. I had the Greek combo, the moussaka, pasticio, the spanakopita, and the stuffed vine leaf, with a "Greek salad" before my main course. For $15+ all in, that's a sensational price, especially since even with my large appetite, I could not finish more than half. If you want this, you could share the meal. It would be enough for two. The waitress that we had was simply adorable and made our dining experience lovely! This place is completely renovated but with a traditional feel. The menu is endless and has all of your regular diner choices. My husband ordered the gyro and it's huge! Very delicious. I ordered the egg salad sandwich and I suggest you skip it, I've gotten egg salad from a gas station that tasted better. The pickles that came with our meals were perfected pickled along with the coleslaw. We each got a cup of chicken noodle soup and that is awesome. Just like your grandma's chicken soup at home. Disrespectful manager (or gentleman working the cash register) on the morning of 1/17/21. I was patiently waiting to be put in the wait list when he was going to seemingly add another guest before me. After I spoke up, he gave me a very unprofessional response and attitude as if I were in the wrong. Another guest behind me saw the whole exchange, became upset with him for the way he treated me and ended up leaving the restaurant as well as I. I have been a customer of Lesters for 20+ years, but this was my second and last time at this Margate location. The staff at the State Road 84 and Pompano locations are the best. I have been here several times over the last few years. The food has always been decent so I thought of Lester's when I was looking for a place to get a quick bite. It was late & I just wanted something simple & light. I ordered the matzo ball soup. The soup was really good. I was surprised at how much flavor it had. My friend had the burger platter. To me the burger didn't look that appealing but I am very picky. My friend finished everything so I guess it was good. The server was okay. She did forget to bring me lemon for my water but other than that the service was good. Not exceptional but not bad either. All in all I like it here. There are just so many other places to go that Lester's never comes to mind. Everything is good but just not memorable. The diner definitely can use some modernization & maybe dimmer lighting. I usually go to the Lester's on SR84 but I was in the area and I was hungry and I figured it would be the same. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. The demographics in this area of town is more of the 65+ variety and by the pace of the movement of the wait staff it seems to fit. I made the mistake of not being ready to order the minute I sat down. I had to wait another 5 minutes before my order was taken. I ordered breakfast. 3 scrambled eggs, 4 strips of bacon and grits. I said hold the toast. Sometimes I think that servers go through the motions and have habits that cannot be broken. My food came out cold. How is that possible? The bacon was soggy and greasy and the food was Meh. To top it off the server brought me toast that I didn't ask for. When I got the check there was an additional $1.99 on the bottom of the check. I asked the server what the charge was and he said, "oh, that's right..you ordered water" -again with the habit and routine thing. I wonder how many times this has been added on other checks and gone unnoticed. It was clear that the server had a lot on his mind. The Lesters on SR84 is night and day from this place. If you want to take a trip back five decades or more, this is the place to go. When you walk in, you'll see a pastry case and the obligatory dessert carousel. What else would you expect from a diner? Each table has a small juke box. Sadly, they were all out of order last night, but I hope they have the system fixed when we go back. After being we were given our menu of traditional diner offerings, from breakfast to chicken livers to pie. None of the comfort food options were missing. But I was there on a mission - the French toast, which I had been assured by my husband was the best he'd ever had. So that's what I got. French toast and bacon. Making the perfect French toast is a science. Everything has to be perfectly balanced. If you leave the bread in the eggs and cream for too long, it's a soggy mess, if it's not long enough, it's dry and chewy. The cook here has it down. My three thick slices of toast were perfectly custardy inside, brown with crisp edges on the outside and just sweet enough. They were big enough to almost make two meals. The bacon was a bit on the thin side, but cooked to a perfect crispy crunchy texture. My daughter had already had dinner, so she opted for a piece of chocolate cream pie. They brought her a full quarter of a pie! It had about an inch and a half of filling, an equal amount of whipped cream, a smattering of chocolate sauce, and the edge was crusted with chocolate jimmies. The only issue was that filling needed to be more chocolatey. The waitress was very friendly, attentive, and had a great sense of humor. Prices were quite reasonable. So sad, I ordered I take out order for 2 TURKEY club sandwiches. When I was talking to the girl on the phone, she didn't ask me my name or phone number, so I said to her do you want my name and she said yes, so I gave her my name. She didn't read the order back to me nor did I ask her to. I pay for the order and I go home. When I get home, there are 2 TUNA clubs. I called right back and I said I'll be right back, with the sandwiches. Well, the lying server says, the manager says there is nothing he can do for you because I read the order back to you. It isn't very often that I assign two stars, but I was disappointed in this place. It wasn't the service. That was solid. It was the food. And, maybe it was just a bad one-time experience, because this place was jam-packed with patrons. I arrived for breakfast, and ordered the #15, which is two eggs (I ordered them over-easy), hash browns, polish sausage and rye toast. This is a pretty big place and I'm somewhat skeptical of big places, and the reason why is that orders will be completed, but will wait unattended for minutes at a time (crucial minutes). I'm thinking that's what may have compromised my meal. The eggs were okay, but the hash browns and polish sausage weren't as hot as they should have been. They weren't very flavorful either. The polish sausage didn't have a homemade taste to it. Seems like it was from the Publix frozen food section. ... And the toast was rock hard. I guess I could have asked my waitress to take it all back, but I'm a believer in first impressions and getting it right the first time. After eating a similar combination at the Cypress Nook, which get's it right and sets a high standard, this place pales in comparison. I just ate what I had and moped about it to myself. Upon checkout, the cashier asked how everything was, and I quietly said good. Again, I just didn't feel like explaining to her that it was the worst breakfast I had in years. Lately I've been going to breakfast here at least once a week for a month and I really like it. I used to go here a lot when I lived in Coconut Creek many moons ago so I'm glad I rediscovered this gem. Very Clean restaurant and great service, enough said. The breakfast deals are many and hard to choose from. I get them same thing, bagel with cream cheese, side of bacon and a cup of grits. My buddies get different things from omelets to pancakes with different sides. All the food looks good and I've never heard any complaints. Most important, the coffee is outstanding. My favorite Diner in the area. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. I often go there for breakfast and everything on the menu is good. Unlike some other Diners in the area they listen to your order and accommodate any kind of special request. A nice roomy atmosphere. The only complaint I ever had was that sometimes the waitresses can be heard complaining and even arguing over tables. This morning I arrived to eat as usual there was a wait no problem I stood there for 5 minutes and was not acknowledged they seen me standing there and still went ahead and added 2 peoples names to the waiting list that had arrived after me. when I was finally called they took one look at my daughter and said o this isn't a table for 3 t's a table for 2 and refused to put a high chair at the edge of the table for us. The server then gave the table to the person after us instead. Because of a lack of consideration for my family we will probably never eat at lesters again. The food was exceptional beyond words that I wish they had one here DC! Every meal came with large portions and never room for dessert but that you take home. My friend and I were running an errand down south so we stopped in for a late lunch. We were immediately greeted and directed to the newly renovated portion of the restaurant. Our waitress was pleasant and came by frequently while we looked at the menu. It was a very large menu with huge variety so it took quite a while but she was patient. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and asked for lettuce and tomato .79 extra but worth it to add some freshness to the very large and heavy sandwich. My friend ordered the french dip. My sandwich was really tasty and the fries were good as well. The meatloaf was flavorful and the bread was nice and soft. My friend enjoyed her sandwich as well. Our waitress gave us space to eat but she may have misjudged a bit because we were kept waiting for awhile to ask for our check. Overall, not a bad place to go for a meal. Note: The newly renovated portion had comfortable booths and some reinforced chairs and tables available. The older white manager with glasses and the receding hairline, I witnessed him yell at a black customer stating that they would have to wait over an hour or however long it takes to pick up a food delivery order and he said if you don't like it, cancel the order. He said these things in a very nasty tone in front of the entire restaurant but in the next breath he told a white gentleman that his food would be ready in 5 minutes in a much gentler tone. Ahhh Lester's--Where even a simple slice of cheesecake and a cup of hot chocolate is a delight. The service is always fast and friendly and the food is consistently amazing. My current favorite breakfast dish is the All-in-Skillet, but you can't go wrong with any of their menu items. Breakfast is available any time of day. On your way in (or out) do yourself a favor and take a look at their dessert case. Don't worry about the calories. It's worth it! Besides breakfast, they also have great lunch and dinner options. Totally a family-friendly environment and there is WiFi available for those of who bring their work with them! As far as the environment, there is ample parking in back of the building--finding parking in the front is rare during the busier hours. Inside is way more spacious than the outside leads you to believe. There is plenty of seating between the main dining room, adjacent dining room, and atrium. I come here now and then with my family on Sundays after church. It can be pretty busy during that time but the wait isn't more than 15 minutes and the waiting area has a long enough seat so that many can sit and wait. The waitresses here are always smiling and friendly. My favorite thing about this diner is their dessert! They have delicious cheesecake and chocolate cake that I believe are made here, by them. Another item I love to order from here is the meatloaf. It's pretty good and the dinner meals come with really big portions and lots of side items. We always leave with a box or two because it's a bit much to finish right there, but im not complaining. lol Today the four of us all decided to order burgers. When it arrived, we were very pleased that the waitress got all of our orders right, since we all wanted something different with our burgers and side items. Food was hot, delicious and again pretty big! The fries are tasty and they give a huge slice of pickle and a side of coleslaw with your burger meal. My only not so good experience here is when I came in to order out. Ill walk up to the counter and 2 or 3 people will seem so excited to have us and ready to seat us but once we tell them that we're not staying and that we'd just like a dessert to go, it's like they all disappeared. It wasn't busy at all. We stood around just looking around in circles to get someone's attention but the only attention we got was when we were asked how many are dining in. The food here is still pretty good. That's it though. The service is beyond frustrating. They forget everything. They don't come back for you to ask for it. Then you have to hunt them down for service and they act annoyed. We're the ones who are supposed to be annoyed at the terrible service. Not the servers. Two visits ago the server brought our check and told us "as a courtesy I didn't charge you a sharing charge". Wait...what? You wanted to charge a sharing charge for us giving a few bites of pancake to our toddlers? We let her know we've been to this restaurant many many times with our kids and no one has ever even implied anything about a sharing charge, including her who has served us in the past. It's unheard of for a restaurant to add $3.00 to your check to share with toddlers. She then went to check with other servers. She returned and let us know it's at the discretion of the server and apparently she was being kind enough to not charge us. Unbelievable. Letting us know how you saved us a phantom $3.00 sharing charge in hopes we throw that $3.00 in your tip. Sadly after many consecutive visits of horrendous service we won't be back. Honestly, I was not a customer at this restaurant but I did go in for a job interview today and I left in shock. I was scheduled to talk to a manager at 3:30 PM today. I arrived and the hostess took me to a corner of the restaurant and asked me to fill out an application. She informed me that the manager was going to be right out and left. I filled out my application and by 3:30 I was ready to go. 10 minutes passed. 15 minutes passed. 20 minutes passed. A little after 3:55, I got up and left. I would say that there was a total of 20 people in the entire restaurant. Other managers and waiters passed me and no one said anything. I never even got to see the manager that was supposedly doing my interview. It sucks because I was really looking forward to getting a chance to speak to someone and maybe getting the chance of employment with your company but at this point, I'm just in shock because I've never been through a situation like that. I told the hostess that I was leaving because I have literally been waiting there for over 20 minutes with a scheduled interview time that the manager had given me. There was another manager right next to her and he never apologized or spoke to me directly. They never said anything and I feel like it was very unprofessional.
