So far my experience has been great…read more The North Buffalo school is well equipped and my instructor takes the time to figure out how I learn the best and will try different ways to explain and demonstrate what they are trying to teach. You also get access to their online learning program that allows you to record your progress and share with your instructor. There are hundreds of songs in the library to help learn your instrument to and play along with the actual song. They also offer band lessons and help put you together with other musicians at your level to make a band. You can practice together and the school has performances organized etc... i am not there yet but it's cool and being able to go out to local venues and see fellow students perform is quite motivating. Overall it has been a great experience. Also the director is a veteran and you get a permanent discount if you are too.

They really care about their students and their program. My sons have had wonderful experiences at the school and have grown as people as well as musicians . Being a part of the SOR performance program has given them a sense of belonging as well as lifted their self-esteem. My eldest son was able to get a lucrative job, though he is still an older teenager due to his knowledge and hard work at SOR in addition to some other great qualities he has. SOR is a place where students up to 18 years old can be themselves and discover music and get a chance to perform in actual venues in this wonderful city that is so much defined by music. Adult students have the chance to learn instruments or singing that they may have always wanted to learn, but never had a chance, for others, it proves to be a great activity be where they can develop skills make friendships. They too get to perform in venues. All of the students have one-on-one lessons with professional musicians. I just can't say enough good things about it, and I know that my children are better for having been a part of the SOR family.

DO NOT take your instrument here for setups…read more I visited Musicians Woodshed last week and initially spoke with one of the guitar techs, Jett Boyd, who was polite and professional. We discussed my bass guitar and the possibility that some frets might need adjustment. When I returned the following week after noticing some fret buzz, I spoke with Miles Manglos. I explained that I prefer a very straight neck with low action and that I was not interested in adding more relief to the neck. Because of that, the logical solution would have been to address the fret work. Instead, he suggested doing a setup that would involve adding relief and raising the action--the exact opposite of what I had just explained I wanted. When I asked whether that meant adding neck relief and how that would affect the current setup, he couldn't clearly explain it. I also mentioned that at a different shop in another city, a tech had previously performed a setup even though I specifically asked him not to and only wanted the jack repaired. I brought this up simply to explain why I was trying to be very clear about the work I wanted done. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, Miles abruptly declined to work on the instrument and told me to leave. He was dismissive and repeatedly said he didn't understand what I was saying. A competent guitar tech or luthier should be able to translate what a musician is describing and communicate clearly about the work being recommended. If a shop cannot or does not want to perform a certain service, that's fine--but it should be handled respectfully and professionally. Unfortunately, this interaction came across as pretentious and unhelpful, and it left a very negative impression of the shop.

This was one of the most frustrating customer experiences I've had. My credit was not the issue,…read moreyet this company still acted like I was unworthy of basic service and tried to force a $600 deposit on top of monthly rental charges. I had already been a customer for a year, paid every bill on time, paid a deposit at the very beginning of my account with them although my credit was GOOD. Not fair, not poor, GOOD, and still got a nonsense explanation that made it clear they either don't value repeat customers or don't know how to apply their own policies consistently. I walked away and found another company (Blackerby) with far better service, better rates, a $125 deposit, and no credit check. The difference was night and day. This company's deposit policy feels arbitrary, their pricing is excessive, and their treatment of customers is flat-out poor. I would not recommend them to anyone. By the way I paid for an entire year of rental upfront with the other company and still paid less than the $600 deposit fee that Strait Music tried to play in my face with.
