Having grown up around wonderful singers (and understanding how they become that way), my husband sat in on our daughter's first lesson with Julie just to see if we would sign on. He was blown away! He was amazed that this level of talent and expertise in teaching exists "just around the corner." My teenage daughter needed more command of her voice as the lead singer in a band. In just one lesson, Julie totally transformed my daughter's voice, and quickly gave her the tools she needed to access her potential. What were once impossible notes to hit, are now easily obtained. I am not exaggerating. At first, we were surprised at how much voice lessons cost, but signing up for 4 (instead of paying as you go) is a steal. You typically get what you pay for, but in this instant we are paying far below the level of instruction. In another city (like New York), we couldn't afford Julie's expertise. I highly recommend her--especially for teens. She made my daughter feel empowered, comfortable, and in control of her voice. I have always known I needed help with certain aspects of my singing, but I didn't even know how to explain what I needed help with in a way that made sense. With Chris I feel I am finally going somewhere better with my voice and my understanding of what singing is. The first thing you notice when you are getting acquainted is that Chris has a pleasant and gracious presence. He is also fun/funny, yet task-oriented. I would imagine with his personality he could make any man, woman or child, whether an experienced vocalist or not, feel at ease enough to bust out singing and get to work! Chris is so good at telling you 1) what to work on 2) exactly how to work on it and 3) explaining why it will help, which is huge for me. After my first lesson I found myself practicing techniques and exercises he taught me and I almost jumped out of my skin at how much better he'd already made me. Teaching singing seems to be second nature to Chris. I truly feel he holds all the good info to give people to help them excel. We had two Saturday Rock City classes here and each time the teacher was unprepared, starting late. My girls are social butterflies, but the kids are not engaged by the lessons which seem unprepared and unplanned. The kids are only introduced to musical concepts for maybe 8-10 mins of the 45 min class, the rest of the time they read books (that are unrelated to music), and/or color coloring sheets to burn time. I was expecting for my kids to be introduced to actual physical instruments that they could see in person and possibly play, not Amazon picture products on a tablet-- there is no curriculum. This being a class for young kids is no excuse-- make the lessons energetic and engaging and you'll captivate kids. I'm very disappointed; being new to the Central Texas area, I'm having a hard time finding quality programs for kids. I do not recommend this place if you're seeking to build your kids' musical prowess.

This class isn't cheap but they supply ALL THE ART SUPPLIES and we've painted in acrylic, oils, and watercolors and drawn with charcoal and pencil. Paper, solvent, linseed oil. I was really nervous the first class, but the piece turned out better than I expected. I find the class calming, almost meditative.
