Susan Leach has been providing flute lessons to my son over the past 2 years with the first year being virtual due to the pandemic. My son as a beginning flutist entered into his second year of middle school already propelled to the highest of 3 bands at school. Furthermore, he earned top tier position in performance by winning district level and competed at regionals within his first 3 months of playing flute with other musicians in a live non-virtual setting. Susan's capabilities as an outstanding musician are well established given her tenure as a professional flutist in orchestra of which she performs, but not just anyone can also take that level of talent and teach another person. She is flexible on schedule and always has been accommodating. Premier Music Academy as a business is fantastic at communication and every one of my engagements involved working directly for the owner and manager of the school. All that being said, Premier Music Academy is my ONLY recommended school for private instruction in the area and they offer a wide spectrum of top tier instructors across an array of wind, brass, string (including all styles of guitar), and percussion instrumentation (yes including Piano and Keyboard) along with vocal instruction as well.

There are also several recitals throughout the year so my son has really learned the performance aspect of being a musician. My son has ADHD and his teachers are able to engage him throughout the lesson. As someone who is experienced in both adolescent development and pedagogy, Orpheus is, in my opinion, the best music school in central Texas.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that the installed Fender tuner didn't work. I called this Guitar Center and they told me to return my uke. Meanwhile, the owner of the store I was in called the Fender company, and was told this uke's installed tuner (and maybe all Fenders, IDK) is designed to only work when it's plugged into an amp. WHAT???? I called my store, they didn't know this very basic fact about FENDERS? Shouldn't they know that? How can someone who works in a guitar store not know the installed tuners don't work on something they sell (unless plugged into an amp)? Additionally, when I purchased this uke, they just handed it to me and went back to their computers, they didn't ask if I needed to know anything about what I just spent hundreds of dollars on. They could have asked me "do you need any help understanding this instrument?" Nope. They just went back to their business. There was no personal service in this store at all. But they sure did want me to positively review them.

He has taught my daughter for about two years now. She started from scratch, using a 3/4 sized guitar and has now graduated to a full-sized one. She plays so well that she can probably busk for pocket money. Chris is now also teaching my son, who while still a beginner, is making very good progress. We rented a guitar when my daughter first started. Rental of a 3/4-sized guitar (from Rock 'n Roll Rentals) was very affordable at only $6/month. We ended up purchasing it as it was more cost effective in the end, with two children using it one year after another. A nice bonus at Childbloom is that siblings are only charged half the price for lessons.

I enrolled my 6-year old in Charlotte's 88 Key Kickstart program in June 2016 and was immediately…read moreimpressed with Charlotte's teaching method and ability to relate to and engage the students. My daughter was the oldest in the group, and Charlotte immediately recognized her readiness for more advanced content and responded accordingly with extra tasks and piano time so that she would not be bored. The Kickstart program is a great and affordable way to find out if your child is ready for individual lessons - if you aren't sure, just go for it! About six weeks ago, we started private lessons with Charlotte and I am so happy. Each week, Charlotte works with my daughter based on the prior week's lesson and develops new recommendations for the upcoming week's practice. Some days my daughter is more focused and ready to work than others - this doesn't phase Charlotte. She is always prepared with a creative game and clever tools to engage my child. My daughter is not only learning to play, learning proper posture, etc, but I am learning how to teach her. Much of the value of working with Charlotte comes from the guidance she gives parents on how to work with their student. The importance of this cannot be overstated when trying to develop a love for playing piano, since daily practice sessions can sometimes be boring and repetitious for the student as well as frustrating for parents. One of my favorite things about Charlotte is her clear boundaries, which are SO important when working with young children. She has a playful but stern manner when enforcing the rules of her studio, which she does with consistency. My children know what they can and cannot do when at Ms. Charlotte's studio (I often bring my 4 year old to his sister's lessons, so these rules are doubly important). Heads up to conventionally-trained pianists/parents: I am a former piano student myself, but have had no experience with the Suzuki method of teaching. As a result, I feel that it is perhaps more challenging for me to work with my daughter than I expected, since the primary focus is not on conventional methods (reading music is a focus, but secondary at this point), but rather on tapping into a child's natural ability to learn. I recommend that anyone who is also used to traditional methods of teaching have a conversation with Charlotte about the Suzuki Method and read up on it as well. SUPER impressed with Charlotte's Piano Studio and am very excited to continue working with her!
