Ordered a used Gretch G9200 round neck resonator online from a local store. When I went to pick it up, it turned out to be a G9210 square neck. The person who brought it out said that It was incorrectly listed online, but there's no way to change it - meaning, they don't have a process for the staff to get mistakes in advertising corrected, or their training is lacking. That was a couple months ago. The listing for the guitar still says it's a G9200, but in one of the pictures, you can see that's it's a square neck. read more

I chose this Guitar Center to purchase my first Taylor! Great selection and was able to find the guitar I wanted in stock. Staff always friendly and helpful when I have visited so unsure why others have mentioned they could not get help. Makan was the member who helped me and had even gave a follow up call a month later to check in on how I was enjoying the new Taylor! I cancelled my Guitar Center lessons last month well within the required timeframe, and I'm still waiting for my refund. I've already spoken with the manager and sales manager, who assured me this would be handled, but instead I just got another email saying I've been rescheduled for more classes I don't want and shouldn't be charged for. I've sent multiple follow-ups, but no one seems to actually fix the problem -- just more scheduling emails and zero resolution. It's beyond frustrating having to chase down my own refund for something I cancelled properly. If you're considering signing up for lessons here, be careful -- cancelling and getting your money back is apparently a long, confusing process. I just want this resolved and to stop being billed for something I already cancelled. It is also a huge mess to actually get an instructor to show up for their scheduled lesson, my friend and I had to take our class together due to her instructor never showing up. read more

My boyfriend and I came in today to purchase some cables that we needed for one of his shows. Usually customer service isn't so great at this guitar center, but they really surprised us this time. The employee was very knowledgeable about the items we needed, and they took the time, even though it was very busy to help us out. My boyfriend is a Spanish speaker, so he felt very accommodated and surprised by the staff Jeremy's patience and understanding. We left with some doubt that our cables would work with our equipment, but the Jeremy let us know that we could return it, and that gave us the confidence to make our purchase today. On October 25, 2025, I went to the Guitar Center at 2525 W Anderson Ln Ste 200 Austin, TX 78757, along with my wife. While I was speaking with a customer service representative (CSR) regarding purchasing a musical instrument, another customer, who appeared to be a black/hispanic male, started interfering in our conversation and told me that if I wanted to know about the musical instrument I should first research it on the internet. I told this customer not to interfere, since I was speaking with the store CSR. I told him to stay away from me and not to interact with me. But he kept on using derogatory language and verbally harassed me. I requested the store CSR, whom I was speaking with, to tell the customer not to interact with me. But the store CSR did not stop this aggressive customer from harassing me. After that I left the store. I returned to the store after 15 minutes, realizing that I should report this incident to the manager of the store. When I entered the store with my wife we saw the customer (who had verbally harassed me) still present in the store and speaking with store CSR (I was speaking with earlier). I went to the store manager and told him the whole incident. While I was speaking with the store manager, my wife had gone out of the store to get some fresh air (she was not feeling well that day). Realizing that she was not near me, I went outside the store to look for her. I saw her standing outside and called her inside the store. When she came into the store this customer (who had verbally harassed me) also came behind her into the store and started verbally harassing us, threatening us and using racist language. The situation went to the point that we longer felt safe and I called 911. Seeing us call 911, the customer who verbally harassed me left the scene and went outside the store. What bothers me most about this whole incident is that the store CSR who I was speaking with first did not stop the aggressive customer from harassing me, despite my seeking help from him. It was the responsibility of the store personnel to see that I was not harassed by another customer, especially since I had asked for help from the store CSR. I find this Guitar Center CSR's behavior very unprofessional and negligent. I do not feel safe to go to this store anymore. read more

I swore I would never come to this particular GC again, but I was on a time crunch and this one is the closest GC to my home. I've been going to the GC in Round Rock instead... had I known I would have had to wait almost 30 minutes for a sales rep to help me, I could have saved time driving the extra 8 miles and back. All I needed was a kick pedal. I was approached by some employee named Clinton who asked if I needed something. I pointed to the shelf where I wanted to grab a kick pedal. Rather than grabbing a ladder and plucking one off the shelf, he instead just informed me he was about to clock out but would go find someone to help me. I literally just watched him walk out the store instead. Dumbfounded, I made eye contact with another sales associate who was ringing someone up, gave me what appeared to be a nod of "yes, I heard and saw what just happened, I'll be right with you," but instead they literally just turned their back to me and started opening up boxes after ringing up the other customer. When I started just walking towards them, they walked off and disappeared into a back room. I finally found what appeared to be the only other employee on the floor, and he was able to help me... we compared a couple pedals and he helped me pick between a few options. I picked one, he rang me up, and as I'm trying to swipe my card and just leave, he goes on a diatribe about how many, many people are noticing this specific pedal falls apart out of the box, and so I better get the 36 month warranty just in case. Because as we all know, Iron Cobra pedals are known for falling apart. I'm not sure it's great customer service to say 'hey, here's what I recommend out of all the pedals around $200, but everyone says it falls apart all the time so better buy the most expensive warranty option available lol.' This place has lost literally thousands of dollars in sales just from me... I can't imagine how much they're missing out on from everyone else. Sales associate that "helped" my 10 year son and me out was had trouble communicating basic information to his manager. Store "manager" was smug and indifferent when communicating with me. Neither possess people skills necessary for direct person to person product sales. Some advice - drop the attitudes guys, you work in instrument sales. And from the looks of the store, you need as many sales as you can get these days. I'm here to thank both of them for treating us like shit. Thanks to your attitudes and behavior, we walked away from the sales counter full of $800 in gear and called Sweetwater the very next day. Not only did we get a better deal than what we were trying to bargain for at GC, we received excellent customer service and follow up. Saving 60 bucks doesn't mean jack to me, its not going to change my life one way or the other. But I do remember people who treat me and my family well - likewise, I really remember those that don't. Being polite goes a long way. You would've made the sale with us - discount or not if you just treated us with some respect and manners. GC just lost a customer they've had since 2007. They didn't want to help or narrow down an issue from a piece of equipt I bought there- they just kept passing me off and wanting to upsell me newer more expensive equipt. No one waits on you without a million distractions. Not friendly. They disappear into the bowels of the store and don't return. It's the 'too cool for school' syndrome by young 'hip' musicians who don't even know what they are talking about. This company needs a major re-org and Austin needs more local competition. Actual rating is a zero star. Went here with questions regarding microphone recommendations and plans to purchase a power conditioner along with cables. Found an associate that after informing my plan on buying the mics used from Reverb ran away asking other people if they needed assistance (being petty). Confused about what happened I stood there only for him to approach me once more and ask if I needed help with anything. What??? Due to the situation I digressed my intentions of purchasing anything through the establishment and decided Sweetwater will stay my go to for audio need. My only assumption is the associates are commission based which is fine, I love helping other whenever I can. First of all, its hard to dislike a music store if you're a musician, so maybe I'm a little biased. But if you're looking for keyboards, guitars or equipment you do need to check out Guitar Center. My favorite part of this store is the humidified acoustic guitar room where you're welcomed to come in and try just about anything trying to find the axe that speaks to you. Almost all of the guitars are available without having to ask for help - I like that I can go and play without having to wait for someone. Keep in mind if you want to try a Martin D28 or Gibson J45 those types of instruments are locked - you will have to ask for help to try them, but I'm okay with that. It tells me they are watching out for this very expensive pieces. Another thing I like is the return policy. While it varies - make sure you understand the policy applying to your purchase before you walk out the door! - I know from experience how painless it is. I returned a mid-level Taylor without any hassle and that makes me feel like they honor their practices. No, the store is not going to win any awards for aesthetics or design, but that's not what you go here for. You're looking for equipment and maybe some help from people who actually play and they have that, so try them out. They offer lessons as well but since I've not tried that I can't speak to it. Bought a new Martin acoustic a few months ago. It played okay but had a slight fret buzz so I took it into Guitar Center for a setup. When I got it back, the fret buzz was gone but it didn't seem right. The action was higher and the intonation was off. I finally took it to another luthier for another setup where they said the neck was improperly adjusted and the nut and saddle were too high - after those were corrected the guitar now plays beautifully. Makes me wonder what was done at the Guitar Center setup. Perhaps I'd gotten an inexperienced tech. In addition to getting the work done well, I paid a lot less than at Guitar Center where I was charged for their premium Signature Setup. read more

Terrible experience at Guitar Center at this location. In the acoustic section, we looked for probably 30 minutes trying to decide on two acoustic guitars, one for a beginner and one for an experienced musician. All was fine and one lady checked in on us, we were fine, and she left. All was ok for a bit. We saw a pile of boxed guitars for $119, one box was open, and there were none on display. I pulled the guitar out of the open box and pulled off the wrapping. Behind me, "R**" rudely said "Excuse me. We pre-fer that you do not take them out of the box", as if this was a Tiffany jewelry store. I told him the box was already open. I put the guitar wrapping (the bag that went over the guitar) back on and packaged it back up. A few minutes later, we talked to the original lady who said it was ok to open the box since there were none on display. Hey R** - how is anyone supposed to know what the guitar is like if there are none out on display? Anyway, that dude was a rude jerk and cost two sales (and bad word of mouth), but the lady did her job and provided the right amount of customer service. Couple years ago a guitar center rep At this location talked me into buying overpriced monster cable Because he said it has a lifetime warranty! That basically anything could happen it could get run over and cut in half and you would still get a brand new one just "bring her in to the store " I had a cable fell on me during our gig brought it back in to guitar center the next day assuming I would just get a new one They informed me that the lifetime warranty I purchased was not valid anymore but that I could purchase another cable made by LiveWire that would come with a lifetime warranty as well Why would I buy another cable when you didn't honor your promise on the first one? I inadvertently purchased strings that don't work for my guitar and didn't notice until I opened the package. The store wouldn't let me exchange them for the correct strings so now I'm stuck with something I can't use. As someone with a background in retail, most stores would exchange the item and clearance the open strings. The person who helped me was rude and had an attitude. All three stars go to what I can only guess is an incredible selection. You can literally go here for ALL your guitar needs. But the fact that I waited in line for 10 minutes just to ask for simple directional guidance with not so much as an acknowledgment from the guy behind the counter and then had to figure out their weird system if buy and then check to see if you bought was a turn off. Oh and the fact that I called to ask about the part I wanted and actually sat in hold for almost 15 minutes before someone came on the line to answer my question didn't help how I felt about this place. Went in to purchase a GT1000 Core and was happy they had it in stock still. I had previously chatted with a rep over the Guitar Center website who stated they would take $50 off the price. Guitar center has the best selection for what I needed. I found a new case for my dj equipment and new headphones, it was perfect. I went up to a sales associate and asked if they could open a lock so I could get the headphone, she responds with "did you see there is two other associates at the front that can help you". I thought oh that was kinda rude... I tried looking past it so I walked away to find the "other employees" but there was no one else that was working at the front. She ended up calling over the intercom for a sales assistant to help... no one came. So I left. They are never getting my service again, I shouldn't get disrespected because someone else had a bad day. I get that people are short staffed right now but this is not a short staff issue this is a shitty customer service situation.
