My family and I love this music store! The staff is always super helpful and they took the time to help me to make an informative decision when I rented our piano, that we ended up buying. My son takes piano lessons from here and has excelled quickly and is excited about practicing! I highly recommend trusting this local company for pianos or lessons. read more

We had a great experience buying a digital piano here, everyone was so helpful and worked with us to get a beautiful piano for our family.

I rented a Roland digital piano with touch screen here for my kids to see if they liked it before going all in. Since they are 3 & 5 years old, I wanted them to have a way to try piano out without so much pressure. The touch screen is awesome because there are tons of games and lessons built into the piano. Tip- they give you a discount on the rental if you take piano lessons with them. Britt at Capital Music is AWESOME. He helped me with a communication/billing mixup and took the time to explain all my options to me that would be best for my family. Thank you Britt- Capital Music is lucky to have you! I highly recommend Capital Music, especially if you have young kids and aren't sure if piano is the way to go long term! read more

I bought my Roland digital piano from Capital Music years ago and have been so very happy with it. I was an acoustic piano snob until the day I walked into that store! But now I'm in a band and needing something more portable. I went in very close to closing time one Saturday, and Guiseppe was absolutely wonderful. He answered all my questions and helped me choose the perfect Roland keyboard to rent for an upcoming gig. I came back and rented one again before deciding to buy one of my own. Each time, the staff was super-nice, made sure I had all the accessories I needed, helped me put it in the car, etc. Once I'd made my buying decision, the Roland I wanted was on back-order, but Guiseppe called me as soon as they had one available and held it for me. Thank you, Guiseppe!!! For those reviewers who say they were "ignored" when they came into the store . . . Capital Music is not a furniture store, and I have always appreciated that about them. Some of us who come to test out pianos are a little embarrassed by our skills and would rather plunk around in private and not have someone hovering. If you need assistance and no one is handy, go find them. I promise they're around. They know their stuff and they do a great job. The day I bought my digital piano, I had the place to myself and it was wonderful. I will definitely be back when I'm ready for that Yamaha grand! read more

Second time visiting this store this past weekend and was ignored again. First time I went in it was a few months ago and I wanted to look around cause I was interested in buying a digital piano. I wasn't even greeted nor approached. I left without buying anything...still ignored upon leaving. This past weekend, I wanted to give them another chance and brought my husband along, this time looking to buy a grand/baby grand piano. Still was not greeted upon entering and was outright just looked over while the sales people were greeting other customers with kids. The only time I was acknowledged was when it was 5 minutes before closing and one person asked if I needed anything (hinting that they were closing). I went somewhere else and found a nice grand for a really good price. I am never coming back to this store. read more

Capital is closed on Sundays, but when I peeked through the windows on a dreary Sunday afternoon, the man waved me in. Capital is what most would picture in their minds when thinking of a piano store. It's got that polite silence that most musical instrument stores ironically have. It's got that new-piano smell. Don't ask...it's just a certain kind of smell that can't be described. The store also has a nice variety of keyboards, digital pianos, and acoustic pianos. They carry the Roland brand. While I'm not currently in the market for a piano, I might go here if I was. My real reason for dropping by was to peruse their sheet music selection, which was ample and varied. I was pleased to see a mix of contemporary and classic, bubble gum pop and the serious stuff (Mozart, Strauss, Tchaikovsky). Capital also offers lessons for all ages. They are adamant about a teaching method that creates a fun learning experience. They want kids to flock to the piano the way they flock to sports. I sincerely hope they succeed because I've never once regretted my nine years of lessons. Capital Tickles My Ivories. read more

My experience with Capital Music Center- Austin, TX has been absolutely spectacular. I needed a piano to rent during my stay here in town and am so glad to have found CMC. Everyone was knowledgeable, pleasant and efficient. They understood and got me what I needed. The keyboard FP90 is top of the line. It was easy to assemble, had great sound and the keys were well tempered. Will definitely do business with them again! Susan B, Chicago, IL read more

I am so pleased that I bought my Roland F-140R digital piano at CMC. It was a decision I made mid-click in the cart on Amazon. The value of the package, delivery and set up was a much better deal over any online merchant. Plus, I kept my money in the community. Keep up the good work. See you soon read more

We have been customers for more than 20 years. We have purchased two pianos from them and have had two of our children taught there. Catherine Davis has been a blessing and an advocate for not only our purchases, but also our daughter. Catherine ALWAYS has my daughter's best interest in mind, and can guide her to great skills and growth that I can only wish for my daughter. I drive from Georgetown, sometimes in rush hour!, and will always do so to continue to be part of this wonderful family. On the business side, I have found the staff helpful, knowledgable, and friendly, but not at all pushy! Catherine helped us upgrade to a piano that suits my teenage daughter's needs as a growing pianist. read more

My 6 year old daughter has been taking piano lessons here from Catherine for a semester. As a musician myself, I am always interested to observe how teachers go about instilling the fundamentals. I have been thrilled with the results in the short time we have been there. The focus on the basics of note recognition has been great. Also the solfege and understanding of where notes are on the keyboard introduced. Catherine has made learning fun for my daughter and she wants to go back every week. So for a dad to watch his child learn about music and appreciate it is wonderful. read more

I have to add something else positive about Capital Music Center: my oldest daughter left her piano music bag with music books, her practice flash drive, etc at the NXNW South Austin location. Solely armed with Capital Music Center's name being on the bag, plus my daughter's first name, some really kind employee at NXNW named Michael made the effort to call Capital Music Group and let them know they'd found her bag but didn't know anything more than the kid's first name. Then someone at CMC named Britt was also incredibly kind and undertook to track down who the kid could possibly be based on their student lists and gave me a call. Those two guys are some good people who need to be appreciated! So, in wanting to write a note to Britt's boss to let them know what a great employee they've got, I did a Google search for who was the store manager, and it turns out it was him! So, I guess he is the boss, and hence I am sending praise out on Yelp. Thank you, Britt! That was super decent of you. And it further makes me glad our kids are taking piano through Capital Music. read more

I bought a digital piano here a couple of years ago.. TIP: Buy USED Laid back staff were glad to see me getting an older piano off their hands, and I was glad to get a good price. They have a nifty software system of lessons, but don't know how you can individualize a set system when I want to go straight to whatever I like and want to learn how to play it, so great for beginners, not so great for just past beginner. Having taken lessons before for 1 hour, their 30 minute sessions wouldn't be enough for me...and don't know if I can afford 1 hour a week with them. Again, good deal on older digital piano. A good starting point if you're in the market to buy but don't want to make the big $$ commitment on something fancy. read more

My daughter has been taking piano lessons here with Catherine Davis for the last three years. Ms. Catherine has been patient and encouraging with a wholistic approach to technique and theory- -we have been very happy with the musician my daughter is becoming! She is growing more confident and is proud of her achievements. Even with the pandemic, lessons have continued seamlessly. We also recently bought a Roland digital piano at Capital to replace our old broken acoustic. We were given all the information we needed to make the best choice and the entire family is loving the piano. All in all, a great experience and I highly recommend! read more

My daughter was a student at Capital Music Center for at least 5 years, and every single day I took her there the owners acted it was the first time they saw me. Like - literally they acted like they had no idea who we were every.single.time. Not that I particularly care to be recognized, but my daughter was a little put off by the unfriendliness of the owners. The teachers were awesome but all seemed unhappy and sad. The overall environment did not seem conducive to a happy work place. Also overbearing parents seem to have way more input on how the recitals were handled. We decided to stop going as it was making everybody in the family kinda sad. read more

I have my second piano lesson today and needed a piano at my place for it. Called them this morning, they where extremely helpful and even delivered he piano in a matter of hours after the call. I didn't buy any instruments, only a book for piano, but I loved this place. They have all types of pianos, acoustic pianos, digital pianos, etc. They also have electric and acoustic drums!! They let me play the pianos for 1h and the attendants were very kind to me. Also, I could see a lot of kids having lessons and they seemed to be enjoying the class. Great place read more

While I haven't ever actually bought anything from Capital Music Center, they have been very helpful to me over the past year or so. The first time I wandered in here, there was a workshop going on for piano teachers. I wasn't on their guest list or anything, but I ended up spending an hour in the store listening to the lecture and learning a lot. They also provided me with a reference to an outstanding piano tuner. When the day comes for me to need to purchase more musical equipment, I'll probably start here first since they've been so good to me. read more

I was really excited to finally get to go look for a piano today, and capital music sounded friendly and reasonable over the phone. However, when I arrived the sales person kept trying to show me digital pianos even after I told him I was not interested in one. After he ignored my third statement about not wanting a digital piano, I walked out. I bought my piano at Benke an hour later. You should listen to your customer, Capital. I would have been willing to pay a bit more money if you had treated me with respect. read more

My son took piano lessons which were helpful to him and he liked them quite a bit. As part of the low-cost lesson, he got a piece of equipment that helped him practice on his own, which worked quite well. When the company asked me for feedback, I gave a suggestion that could have helped my son even more and it was received well w/ even suggestions of other teachers that could be a better fit which really impressed me. This is a long-standing, local business with tenured and professional staff. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to contact them again for any of their services or expertise. read more

This store is one of Austin's gems. Sadly, the owner Ron, passed away suddenly last year, but I think he would be proud of how well the business has continued. The manager Britt is about as knowledgeable and talented a music salesperson as you will ever find. He is the one that talked us into the Roland digital piano 8 years ago and we have been delighted with it - so many benefits over our old acoustic piano. Our daughter has learned on the Roland with Catherine as her teacher. Catherine is just fantastic, and has taught her with an emphasis on theory and dynamics that I think a lot of teachers skip. I believe our daughter has become an accomplished pianist at a much faster rate than we expected, due to the combination of the benefits of learning on a digital piano and a high quality teacher. She's also enjoyed the camaraderie of playing in the 'piano bands' when she was younger. Cap Music is a fabulous business model and we have been pleased for many years. read more

My son (11) has been taking piano lessons at Capital Music Center for the past couple of years. I was looking for piano options for my daughter's lessons and eventually went with the rent to own option. I worked with several different people before eventually purchasing the piano. Everyone should take piano lessons at some point in their lives if they've ever thought about it, and Zac at Cap Music is terrific. I also ended up buying a digital piano and they gave me a very good deal and 0% financing for a year. Lovely local business. read more

A big shout out to Ron, a very affable and humorous owner of cap music. My partner & I went to their centre one lazy Saturday afternoon to enquire on their piano lessons and were pleasantly bowled over by Ron. He literally spent 2 hours with us going through the course they run for adult beginners and occasionally played for us some short bursts of the piano. He also narrated his story of falling out of love of piano as a child and then falling right back in after discovering new and fun ways of learning music that is not available in traditional music schools. Loved his personality and I would highly recommend visiting this centre at least once and calling out for Ron. TIP: If you are beginner, on a budget, looking to buy a digital piano, buy used. Apparently digital piano drop their value as soon as taken out of the showroom by at least 1/3. So buy used whenever possible. Cap music also have a selection of used digital pianos on craig list. read more

My son has been taking piano lessons at Capital Music for 5 years and my daughter for 2. I highly recommend them. Both my kids love going to their lessons and both enjoy playing piano. I have been trying for a long time to find a good place in Austin to buy sheet music and have not had much luck. Today I went to Capital Music Center and it was wonderful! I was looking specifically for piano music I could play at my church. They had a great selection of a wide variety of piano music that was well-organized and up-to-date. I selected a few books to try out and sat down at one of the Rolands to play through a few pieces. The owner of the store came over and visited with me for a while - he was very friendly and knowledgeable and I could tell he really cares about kids getting a good music education. I will definitely make Capital Music Center my go-to place for piano music. And should I be in the market for a new keyboard or digital piano in the future, this is definitely where I'll go. read more

Two weeks ago I decided to go to Capital Music Center because I needed a metronome and I wanted to talk to a live human (as opposed to reading how-to articles online) about what a metronome is and how to use it and discuss which metronome would be best for my needs. Specifically, I was looking for an old-fashioned "real" metronome I could take with me and that wouldn't annoy me like the electronic apps you can find online. Britt, who is the manager of Capital Music Center, helped me out. Basically, I accosted him with a thousand questions about music theory, history of metronomes, and music learning techniques and he answered all of my questions, and then some, leaving me confident I was purchasing the right metronome for my needs. After two weeks of breaking in my metronome, I can confirm that Britt was right on all accounts. The metronome I bought works great, is convenient as heck, and not annoying in the least. Even my guitar teacher was impressed with the quality of the metronome, as well as by the music theory concepts I had learned from talking to Britt. So, truthfully, while I was intimidated by the $20,000 price tags attached to the pianos on display, Britt was as down to earth as could be (even kinda shy and reserved a bit) and just really cool to talk to. He knows way more about music than he lets on. He is a smart guy, studied, insightful, and totally well-worth the trip from wherever you live up/down to Allandale just to talk to him. He's good with the business end of things, too. He fielded questions and completed transactions from a number of customers while I was looking around in the shop, and he did it with grace and style. Overall, I'm just really impressed by Britt and with the product I purchased. I definitely plan to return to Capital Music Center to purchase more music accessories and to check out what types of music lessons and services they offer. read more

My son started with Capital Music at a very young age and continued until he graduated from high school. Then I began taking lessons from his former teacher. What I like about Capital Music is the friendly, helpful people. My teacher encourages pursuit of the type of music I enjoy...so I have played rock and roll, blues and jazz. I firmly believe that my son would not have continued with piano had he not used a digital piano that allowed him to practice with a variety of sounds/instruments and that provided the availability of backup discs to accompany his Star Wars melody. He played so many versions (from simple to complex) of Star Wars that sometimes I say he learned all he knows from playing Star Wars! read more

My son just started taking piano lessons at Capital Music Center and loves it! Before having a digital piano my son dreaded practicing and going to lessons. It was a daily battle. Now that he has in instructor who he likes and a digital piano, he can't get enough. He plays before school, immediately after school, and often right before bed. He learns the songs much faster with the help of the piano apps and software that goes with his books. He's recording his own music too. It's been a dramatic transformation and great to see how much fun he's having. The right teacher and instrument made all the difference. read more
