Both are gifted musicians and talented teachers. Having two locations also makes it convenient for the summer camps that are offered and also if we need to reschedule and get a makeup lesson at the other location. There are also several recitals throughout the year so my son has really learned the performance aspect of being a musician. My son has ADHD and his teachers are able to engage him throughout the lesson. As someone who is experienced in both adolescent development and pedagogy, Orpheus is, in my opinion, the best music school in central Texas.

DO NOT take your instrument here for setups…read more I visited Musicians Woodshed last week and initially spoke with one of the guitar techs, Jett Boyd, who was polite and professional. We discussed my bass guitar and the possibility that some frets might need adjustment. When I returned the following week after noticing some fret buzz, I spoke with Miles Manglos. I explained that I prefer a very straight neck with low action and that I was not interested in adding more relief to the neck. Because of that, the logical solution would have been to address the fret work. Instead, he suggested doing a setup that would involve adding relief and raising the action--the exact opposite of what I had just explained I wanted. When I asked whether that meant adding neck relief and how that would affect the current setup, he couldn't clearly explain it. I also mentioned that at a different shop in another city, a tech had previously performed a setup even though I specifically asked him not to and only wanted the jack repaired. I brought this up simply to explain why I was trying to be very clear about the work I wanted done. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, Miles abruptly declined to work on the instrument and told me to leave. He was dismissive and repeatedly said he didn't understand what I was saying. A competent guitar tech or luthier should be able to translate what a musician is describing and communicate clearly about the work being recommended. If a shop cannot or does not want to perform a certain service, that's fine--but it should be handled respectfully and professionally. Unfortunately, this interaction came across as pretentious and unhelpful, and it left a very negative impression of the shop.

However, I have been communicating with this business via text for about a month now to get a doublebass ready for Thing One. In the communications, we have discussed the required height, type of bow, and type of use this instrument would get to determine which base would be the right fit. When we arrived to pick up the bass, we were greeted warmly and given a quick lesson on the proper care of the instrument. This process took no longer than 30 minutes from arrival to signing the paperwork. I am looking forward to hearing the tones of this beautiful instrument in my home.

She says without a doubt that Stephen at Dolce is her favorite instructor of all those she has had. She enjoys her lessons and he is really good at communicating with her. The only thing I would like to see as an improvement is a good way to motivate her to practice. She has joined the Youth Chamber Orchestra at Dolce and that has helped a lot because there are other kids her age that she plays with and she doesn't want to be embarrassed by not knowing her part. Also, having performances to prepare for helps, but I wish they made a bigger deal about the performances approaching and perhaps had some system of accountability for the kids to work for, even if it was just a little prize. P.S. I save 5 star reviews for very few places, so 4 stars from me is pretty dang awesome!!
