"We regret to inform you, we are no longer a brothel" - Management
    Bianca R.

Damien Griffiths has definitely hit it out of the park with this one. Les Bubbles is a quaint moderately sized French Bistro and Bar paying homage to its somewhat sordid past. Les Bubbles is on Wickham St in the Valley and was once an illegal casino and brothel back in the Fitzgerald Inquiry. The photos of infamous 1980's characters adorn every wall with red, yellow and blue neon signage on the exposed brick. The food: Les Bubbles has one main on the menu - Steak Frites. A cut of beautifully cooked well seasoned rib fillet and a side of salty frites - or French fries, served with an option of sauces. The Bearnaise, Cafe de Paris, and Green Peppercorn and Cognac and also a side salad served before the mains arrive. Did I mention that the frites are unlimited? Yes! You can have as many or as little as you like along with the sauce! Chip lovers rejoice! After a main each, with complimentary bread and butter, 2 glasses of Shiraz, and a perfectly airy chocolate mousse with vanilla chantilly cream it is safe to say we left quite satisfied. Go here if you love steak and chips, an epic dessert list, and to people watch - the clothing choices that patrons chose to wear were fabulous. The service was fantastic. Every single waitperson was bubbly (hehe) and friendly and the wonderful French accents of the males was music to my ears. The females in French lace trimmed maid style aprons was a bit tongue in cheek - a nod to the buildings history perhaps.

The amazing tender steak with traditional cafe sauce.

This is fast becoming our favourite low-key, low-fuss dinner spot. Where else in Brisbane can you get PERFECTLY cooked medium rare steak, the most amazingly delicious sauces and unlimited fries with a stunning array of cocktails? Oh and just in case you didn't know, it's ALL gluten free. Yes, you read that right. The chips. The Sauce. The majority of stunning desserts (including the gosh darn chocolate fondant, omggggggg). It's a coeliac's heaven. We have been here twice and each time we enjoy the food and drink and excellent service. We booked both times due to its popularity, and I would advise against turning up looking for a table. The earlier you can book the better lest you're stuck with a 5pm slot -- and they will churn you through quickly! The restaurant upstairs is dotted with smaller wooden tables and larger comfortable booths. We are yet to have enough people to warrant a booth, but the tables are comfortable enough (if not a little cramped). I LOVE the various pictures and paintings of Brisbane celebrities adorning the walls both upstairs and downstairs. It adds a lot of charm and humour abounds everywhere you look. The bar downstairs is a little more basic although it's not often you find a bar with a spa in it! All drinks are served in plastic cups and there is ample cushioned bench seating along the side of the venue. I would imagine it would get hot down there when it's full - thankfully you can jump in the spa and cool off at any point. All in all we will continue coming back and delighting in the reliability of such beautifully put together meals. I find myself getting cravings for that sauce on the regular and who can go past the chocolate fondant with ooozy chocolate sauce.... go easy on the fries though, you need to save some space for this delicacy.

A bit weird having Sir Joh looking down on me eating! :)

I loves me a good steak and you cannot beat Les Bubbles for a good steak! Set in the old Bubbles Bathhouse brothel, it pays homeage to its seedy past in a comical yet classy way. Notorious figues from the 70's and 80's adorne the walls and it is quite funny to have someone like Sir Joh, Terry Lewis or Russ Hinze stare down on you while you are eating! The steak here is just amazing. Very little fat, cooked perfectly, unlimited frittes (chips) and the sauces ... WOW! Desserts are amazing as are the cocktails. The only downside to this place is that it would not be the right place to bring a vegan, vegetarian on non-red meat eater here.

My very first Australian review! I have been waiting god knows how many years to write up my Aussie…read morereviews because god knows how many of them I have piling up through the years from visiting my family and friends down under. I am happy to report that my first review will be Montrachet, a place my parents love to go to and brought my son and I when we last visited. When I was at university, Paddington was one of the hot spots where we'd go hang out at. Montrachet is located in Paddington. Like the other reviewer said their opening times are limited and you have to make reservations way in advance. During some times of the year they are closed for weeks on end so it makes it really inconvenient if you're wanting to go dine there. On the night of our visit we arrived to find the dining room bustling - which I was told is typical. Since there were four of us we ordered appetizers and entrees (in Australia, entrees are appetizers while entrees are referred to as 'mains'). We had Morton bay bugs and quail to start, both my mom's favorites. Then we moved onto duck and steak and my son had a lobster ravioli. I remember thinking everything was good but didn't blow me away. I had heard my folks rave on and on about this place so I guess my expectations were high. But then, both my parents mentioned that everything they tasted that evening wasn't up to par with their previous visits -- they visit at least once a month -- and my mom even apologized that it happened on the night I visited because it was such a rare opportunity that I was able to come. The chef/owner came out to say hello to my parents and my dad naturally mentioned that I was a blogger blah blah and since I was taking photos of the meal the chef asked me to please write about Montrachet. Unfortunately I didn't blog about it and am glad that finally I am able to. I didn't go home this summer. Maybe I will next summer. I know my girlfriend celebrated her birthday there a few months ago and had a fantastic time. I guess I need to go back again. 3.5 stars!

Case in point, a recent wedding anniversary to celebrate and to return once more, this time for their 7-Course Shared Banquet. For $75pp it included Pork, Mushroom & Ginger Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Lamb Dumplings, Roast BBQ Duck & Spiced Cherry Crepe, Cracklin' Twice-Cooked Free-Range Pork Belly, Chilli Aubergine, Steamed Jasmine Rice, Game Farm Duck Frites and last, but not least, Crème Brûlée du Jour. It was almost too much for two people but we plowed through each course with gusto while taking a pause and breather before the duck frites came out. Pre-dinner cocktails and a bottle of Pinot Gris complimented the dishes and added nicely to the occasion. And our waiter, Kevin, was outstanding with excellent table management and timing. Suffice to say the banquet was a beautiful choice and the dining experience just as pleasant as we've always enjoyed. It's nice to see that some things, perhaps the things, never change.

We dined on the occasion of my son's birthday. Although it is not typically a "family" restaurant, children are still well catered for as some of the street food menu items are quite suitable and appealing for children. My husband and I ordered the "I'm Hungry" banquet, and my gosh, it was amazing! We were so full! My favourites included the San Choy Bao and the Chicken Coleslaw. Very moreish indeed. The kids had the Popcorn Chicken, the spring rolls, and sampled the San Choy Bao. They ate everything and my son said, "sooooo good!". Highly recommended, and I would be more than happy to go again and take some friends!
