The location is a bit out of the way, and characteristically open. They have some nice affectations, notably Crystal hot sauce and some New Orleans beverages. They can whip up a nice pasta dish, and offer plenty of customization options. I was quite happy with their mushrooms, and you can see them cooking stuff up fresh. Of course, that also makes for slow service on a crowded night, and the prices are a bit high for what it is. My other notable downside is that the menu just doesn't offer the range I might have hoped for; it's almost all pasta and pizza and very little of it is vegetarian. Not that this isn't a feature of New Orleans, but I would really have liked some red beans or some okra in there somewhere. It isn't a terrible restaurant, but I suspect it is no substitute for the real thing.

Being good country folk they love their meat and veg, and being irish of course they love spuds! Me on the other hand I love seafood, Asian dishes and very little red meat. In fact I was vegetarian for a number of years. But I had been to Kingsleys before and I knew the quality of food. It is the only place that I will happily order a steak medium and enjoy every mouthful. So i booked in advance and requested a table with river views if possible. When we arrived we were taken to our outdoor table with an amazing view of the Storey Bridge. The table was under a lovely heater which suited mum perfectly, and the rest of us weren't overwhelmed with heat so it was perfect. We were offered different water types and given the wine list to browse whilst getting settled with our menus. The wait staff were very friendly and happy to explain anything on the menus. They had a reasonable selection of wines at varying prices. Then it was time to pick the food. I'm the sort of person who will go to a steak restaurant and order the chicken! But i ordered the New York Striploin medium and LOVED it. However picking the entrees was more challenging. There were just too many fantastic options. We had crab cakes, salt and pepper squid, scallops and a scotch egg. All were delicious and beautifully presented. I was too hungry to take a picture. Clean plates went back to the kitchen and my parents couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was. Then out came our main courses. We all had a steak, all different cuts and each person was happy with the quality. Mum and I had the green peppercorn sauce which was perfect. Dad had a mushroom brandy sauce which i thought he was about to lick off his plate. My husband had the bearnaise sauce which he also thought was delicious. At kingsleys after you have selected your steak then you pick your individual sides. We decided to each order something different and then share. We had garlic mash, onion rings, carrots and green beans. These all really compliment the steak. There were clean plates all around which i think tells a lot about a restaurant. Mum kept saying that her steak and sauce was so good that she would have happily eaten just those, but then tried they sides and thought WOW, just when I thought it couldn't get any better. There were 2 desserts ordered, neither of which I had but the others seemed to love them. My only complaint was that they took a very long time to arrive at the table. However the others report that it was well worth the wait. The staff at Kingleys were very friendly, professional and helpful. They appeared to enjoy their work which helps add to the atmosphere of the place. Speaking of atmosphere it was fantastic, everyone there that night was having a great time. The view is just breathtaking and the tables are positioned so that the majority of people can see the river views. Why have I given it only 4 stars and not 5? Parking can be difficult through the week but many of the undercover private car parks offer evening discounts after 5.30pm, e.g $13 for the night. Also the bathroom facilities in the restaurant aren't great. There are signs up advising how to flush the toilets to avoid blockage which I found odd, However when I went back later in the evening all of the ladies toilets were blocked to almost overflowing. The males in our group reported that the gents were exactly the same. The fact they have signs up advising how to flush a toilet makes me think this problem has existed for awhile and I believe it should have been addressed. No one wants soggy shoes after walking into a bathroom. I did report it to the manager that night so hopefully the problem will be fixed.

Getta burger grinds & smokes their own meat, & make all their special sauces. The menu is uncomplicated, ranging from pulled pork, beef brisket, regular beef pattys, and nothing is over $15. They all sound so tantalising too, that you may just frustrate the counter staff with your indecisiveness. We ended up going with the: (1) "Getta Boss" ($14) - 12 hour smoked beef brisket, crispy bacon, double cheese, pickle, jalapenos & "That BBQ Sauce". (2) "Getta Beef Brisket" ($11), 12 hour smoked beef brisket, slaw, pickle, "That BBQ Sauce", & cheese. These babies are Monstrous! Basically, you can cut the burgers in half, & save some the next morning for lunch. Both burgers seem to have the right balance of flavours, moisture and texture, and hits all the right spots. We also ordered fries but it was the seasoning of their "own smoked salt dust" that stood out. Not sure how they've come up with that seasoning, but we were licking it off our fingers. Getta Burger is probably more suited to take-away rather than eating-in, as the space is limited & there's probably not enough seating to accommodate the hordes of burger lovers flocking to this part of town. Since we weren't that hungry though, we decided to share a satay burger, this was one good burger. The burger was moist, tender and the satay sauce added an unexpected twist. Hat's Off Dinners are a chance for restaurants that received 1 or more hats in the 14/15 Guide to do a special menu that shows off their cooking chops or in this case, cotoletta. Cinco is lucky enough to have Michelin chef Andrea Leone working with them and it was from his native Piedmont that he drew inspiration for this dinner. A region in northern Italy that borders both Switzerland and France, it's famous for its fortifying mountain cuisine. The style of hearty food you enjoy after day of hiking the freezing alps or skiing the piste is quite different from the calorie intake you require after a 500m walk. The dishes on offer had been lightened significantly but the elements remained. Many people would be hard pressed to tell you where Piedmont is on the map but if they had any knowledge of Italian cuisine, they'd certainly know the dishes. As part of the anti pasti, Bagna Cauda was served in a baked and caramelised onion cup. Translated as 'hot dip', garlic and anchovies are pounded together to create a warm, creamy, salty sauce served with blanched vegetables. Vitello Tonnato is a favourite of mine. Rare veal is sliced paper thin and coated in a sauce of eggs, tuna, capers and lemon juice. Served at room temperature, this version included slivers of pickled sardine to add extra piquancy to cut through the rich sauce. Tiny ravioli filled with oozy regional Fontina cheese was the richest dish of the evening finished in brown butter dusted with shaved truffles. It didn't touch the sides. The final dish was Bollito Misto or 'boiled meat', though there was nothing plain or peasant like about this dish with carrot top pesto, little gems of sweet mustard fruits and an almond tarator style sauce. Dessert was a cold, smooth milky chocolate pudding or budino that despite its appearance was not overly rich. A citrus sauce and candied, dehydrated orange slices provided sweetness, with a slight hint of bitterness. Paired with a moscato, it was a remarkably light dessert. Service throughout the evening was stellar. It's an art to serve an entire restaurant with the each of five courses at the same time. The somelliers were happy to discuss the qualities and merits of the wines being poured. It's been quite some time since I've been able to engage in conversation with staff who really knew their product. Peter Stubbs has certainly put a lot of effort into selecting the correct staff and providing a high quality dining experience. Today, the Boatshed is something else. A steak restaurant that is casual and classy with reasonable prices. The steak menu is impressive. it gives you all the details of the meat, where it was raised and on what, how long it's been aged for, whether it was wet or dry aged. Basically, everything apart from the beast's first name. The chef clearly has a passion for serving good steak, when I requested a dry aged steak to be served rare, the wait staff informed me that it is a steak that is best served medium, to allow the fat to cook properly and to produce a better flavour. While the steaks are divine, there are a few things that need more work. Service is at best haphazard, at worst frighteningly slow. 90 minutes from when we first ordered to when the meals arrived. From reports of dining companions, non-steak meals are a tad woeful. At my most recent visit, one meal was so bad, it was inedible and waived from our bill. The side salads that come with the meal are insipid, (a caesar salad with one croute) and some of the sauces are a little bland. The wine list is passable, but more effort needs to be made to keep it up-to-date (or the listed wines in stock). Nothing more annoying than finding a favourite on a list and being informed I can't have it. In summary if you're craving a really good steak and don't want to pay CBD prices, this is the place to go. But be prepared to wait.
