    Menu with Lemon Rice Soup
    Valerie M.

Wonderful server. She told us she's from CA. Chatted with us for a few. Seems she also likes that Lemon Rice soup my gf was telling me she likes. Can't say I'm familiar with it. I ordered two up and we shared some fries. I also had a hot tea -the winter cold had gotten to me. A good coney but different from the Flint type I'm most familiar with. I'd stop in at a Leo's any time.

Ordered take-out a 1/2 hour-45 minutes before close of business; I had my wife pick up the order. We ordered the "Three Chicken Finger Pita" (Hani) and a Michigan Salad with Grilled Chicken. I had 1 Bite of the Salad and was disgusted. The Grilled chicken was not even fully cooked. I knew I would legitimately get sick if I ate anymore of that chicken if I didn't spit it out. I unfortunately thought I could have faith with the Three Chicken Finger Pita being fried chicken instead and all; so I consumed the three chicken finger pita. I currently am praying to the porcelain gods. That chicken wasn't properly dropped either. I will be returning at open of business to talk to management.

Reggie and Michelle were kind and wonderful to talk with. I sat at the bar with my 3 year old who loved watching Reggie cook and Michelle treated him like one of her own. It easily will become a regular place for me to visit. I ordered the Veggie Omelette with Rye toast and it was all prepared using fresh local produce. My son had pancakes and bacon. If you want pancakes that are perfectly fluffy and melt in your mouth, this is the place to get them. The food came fast, but was a much, much higher quality than "fast food". I love the hole-the-wall, homey feel of this place that fits well with the charm of Mount Clemens.

Today , instead of driving by and saying the parking lot was kind of empty , my son and I went in. The food was amazing! Priced well and great portions. Real sourdough bread. The best piece of ham that I've had in years at a restaurant! Good quality sausage and bacon too. The hash browns and pancakes were yummy! Good simple, delicious well made dishes! My son hardly talked as he ate. Best pancakes around! The building is clean and may need some love but the food....is delish! Shout out to their friendly staff. The…read moreinterior has been remodeled and looks great, love the dark layout and the huge dining room, however the food remains touch and go. Certain dishes are great, others not. Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.

They both tasted like they were made in house and not from frozen. I would order these again any day. I also tried the shrimp po boy. The flavors were good, but the sandwich only had 6 shrimp. Your service is terrible, your food is mediocre at best, and the entire place feels poorly run. We came in with a party of 12... and you just lost all 12 of us as customers. The waitress was completely ineffective. Orders were missed, timing was all over the place, and communication was nonexistent. Some of our group finished eating before one person even got their food -- that's unacceptable. Let's talk about the food and presentation: * Fry baskets? Just awkward and unnecessary. * Pretzel with beer cheese -- the pretzel was literally sitting in the cheese, which had a skin on it... so it was either microwaved or sitting way too long. * Beer wasn't cold -- just "kind of" cold. Big difference. * Beer selection is weak and oddly repetitive (how many reds do you need?). * If I had to guess, your beer lines haven't been cleaned in a long time. The burger tasted like a frozen patty -- nothing special at all. The "hot honey fish"? It tasted like straight-up bottled sauce -- like Asian Zing from Buffalo Wild Wings. Not good, not creative. We were told a manager would come by -- never happened. If someone did and that was your manager, you've got a bigger problem. Operationally, this place is a mess: * 3 hostesses for a restaurant this size? Why not have food runners instead? * We didn't receive a significant portion of what we ordered * The dining area is dirty * The parking lot is in rough shape At some point, you've got to be honest with yourselves.
