She was stocking drinks, didn't care about good customer service and then decide to serve my plate without washing her hands or wearing gloves. The place didn't feel welcoming or sanitized. The restaurant is very small, probably can hold 2 big families. I love supporting my people, but as a fellow Caribbean I was very disappointed overall. Nonetheless, I still gave the plate a shot. I'm happy I got the dessert because that was the only thing that tasted good. The Mac and cheese was decent but very plain, I had to season it when I got home. The cabbage was ok. Leons is close to my house so I go every once in a while. The food is always soo good and the staff is always pretty generous with portions. I usually get the curry chicken but decided to try the oxtail this time. It was so tender and flavorful, I wish I got the bigger size. My boyfriend always get the jerk chicken and he loves that too. It's got a little kick but not terribly spicy. I usually get their Mac and cheese too, it's sooo creamy and cheesy and delicious, but they were out this time, so go earlier if you want it. Started with the rice and beans - those had good flavor and seasoning. The chicken was juicy and well-infused with the gravy sauce. Little bit of spice, little bit of sweet, just very amazing. Portion was plentiful. The gentleman operating the food truck was down to earth and friendly. The owner was there during my first visit, and on my second visit, his son made my plate both times the service was warm, welcoming, and genuine. So glad I decided to give Leon's a try while visiting the brewery next door. This small restaurant has a large menu of hot and ready foods that can be packed up for you to enjoy within 2 minutes. Food is always good. When ordering via a delivery service there just needs to be consistency. For extra gravy there is an up charge, but you really can't tell if they provided this as everything is just put in the main food container. I suggest that extra sauce be placed on the side to show that it was provided. Also, there were times where I received bread with my meal and other times I have not. Food quality is always good and tastes great. My only other tip would be to minimize the random broken bones in the curry chicken. read more

FOOD: I recently returned from Jamaica and their seasoning/heat was different than what Leon offers. Yes. I ate at different places, on and off the resort as I prefer to eat and hang with locals. I thought Leon's was too hot, but to each his own and doesn't mean it's bad. I just prefer less heat. Besides the chicken being a bit too hot, the cabbage and plantains were good. The menu is short but has enough options for meat and fish lovers of all kinds. Ordering at the counter was easy. We didn't have to wait too long for our food, which we ate there at a small table. They didn't even tell us they didn't have plantains and didn't put in our order. We were only given the options steamed cabbage and rice and peas as alternatives for the sides and a barbecue like chicken dish. Not sure why they didn't have jerk. During the phone call the person who called us was half having a conversation with us and half having a conversation with whoever else was at the restaurant. The call hung up 3x before we could finally confirm what food was actually being sent to us. When we ultimately got the food my partner and I were not happy with our food. This is my first time having Caribbean food. Wow, wow, wow! I am so surprised that this food was so delicious. It was truly fantastic. Today, I tried out the brown stew chicken, rice and peas, plantains, shredded chicken patty, and a peanut butter crunch dessert. The brown stew chicken was surprisingly flavorful and satisfying. It fell off the bone! This chicken was definitely not white meat, which is what I typically enjoy, but it was definitely quite good. There was a decent amount of meat on the chicken for just $10, and the portion was satisfying. I loved the brown stew sauce! So tasty. There was some fat covering the chicken I had to take off (not too appealing to me), but other than that, very good. I also thought the rice and peas were quite tasty. They once again gave me a good portion. The side came for free with the "Just a Taste" meal. The 'peas' aren't actually peas: they are kidney beans. I recommend soaking up the rice with the stew sauce to make it extra tasty. The cornbread was a nice addition to the meal. It was moist and had a nice, mild but lightly sweet flavor. The chicken patty was a bit spicier than I thought it would be. It seemed to have some sort of sauce inside, too. But, it was flaky and delicious nonetheless. The plantains were near perfect. You definitely have to try them out since they are so cheap (just $2) and you get 4 thick pieces. Perfectly caramelized, great texture, and nice sweetness. The peanut butter crunch pie was a little small especially for it being $4. But, the flavor was great. Chunks of peanuts, chocolate crust, peanut butter whipping, chocolate pieces. Not sure if it was homemade, but way better than many store bought peanut butter pies. All in all, this was a great place to first try Caribbean cuisine. I spent $22 for about a cup of rice and peas and the toughest oxtail I've ever had in my life. Lawd, have mercy. No butter beans, the gravy nor the meat had any strong flavor. Never again. The service was great, had asked how spicy jerk chicken was and was told a 10. I'd say it was a strong 8-9 for me and a 200 for my wife. The gravy within the brown stew was just so filling and tasted amazing with the rice & peas. The chicken was nice flavor, not dry and beautifully tender(9.5/10). The rice & peas was fluffy and soaked up that gravy so lovely, it also wasn't overwhelmed with peas and had just the right amount(9.3/10). Now one of my favorite parts that i really love that they have as an option is the cabbage! it adds the great refresh touch to the rich meal that just goes so well and acts almost as a palate cleanser. another interesting feature to the cabbage is they add extra veggies to it such as corn, carrots, and green beans, pretty interesting but very good(10/10). The price for the amount of food you get is in my opinion the greatest price especially for the meats/seafood that they serve, the service is also pretty good and the lady in the front is very friendly. i ordered rice & peas, curry chicken, & cabbage on doordash. im jamaican & im from an area where the jamaican food is 5 star quality. ive been to jamaica and had various peoples jamaican cheffings. this is the worst jamaican food ive ever had in my life. jamaican food is hard to mess up. usually even if ur recipe is a little off it'll still be quite delicious. this food is so bad it felt like it was on purpose. know that i am not trolling right now. im a real person who is genuinely this hurt by the quality of the food i just ate. rice & peas: closer to spanish rice than jamaican rice and peas. i TRULY believe that was a box of some zhused up $1 spanish rice. cabbage: saltiest cabbage i have ever had in my goddamn life. whoever made this cabbage doesnt love you. this cabbage tasted like about a half cup of salt was added to it and it was left on the stove for 5 hours too long. im willing to put how overcooked it was to the side, this being one of like 3 jamaican spots in pittsburgh, im sure they get busy. perhaps someone forgot about the pot of cabbage. nevertheless, it sucked. this cabbage was pale and sad and knows only the wrath of god. curry chicken: the best part of the plate, and the ONLY reason this review got a second star. i really want to put 1 1/2, but yelp doesnt let you. curry flavor was......there i suppose. it also was too salty. idk if its their spice blend or what but it was really just quite meh as a curry flavor. no photo because i did eat the food. if im paying for some food to come to my house ur goddamn right im eating it all no matter the quality. understand this though: i hadnt eaten all day. i feel so strongly about this food man. this shit was terrible. so depressing. another example of a terrible saga with pittsburghs ethnic food except maybe thai. you are better off making jamaican food at home and i mean that. no shade to the chefs but i gotta speak my truth read more
