    Fried plantains

Wow, this is some of the best African food I have ever had! It is great for those who are a bit unfamiliar with the cuisine, too. They offer many soul food items and have a diverse menu, so you'll surely find something that satisfies your tastebuds. I tried the puff puff, meat pie, jollof rice (side portion), and fried plantains. I initially ordered the Mac n cheese but they were out of it. Well, this was still an incredible meal. This was my first time trying jollof rice, so I didn't quite know what to expect. The price was absolutely amazing for this huge portion! The rice was flavorful, had a nice kick to it, but wasn't too spicy (just a bit on the spicy side for me though). There was a taste of some turmeric in it as well. It was flavorful and a fantastic deal for $7! The puff puffs were so good and you get 5 of them. They are almost like donuts, but honestly way better. Puff puffs are thick and chewy, which I really enjoyed. Perfect texture, perfect dusting of sugar, amazing price, great portion, and just overall delicious. Can't go wrong with them. The plantains were pretty good, too. I will say, I've had better plantains elsewhere, but still decent. They were flavorful and caramel used well. The pieces were somewhat small, though, and some of them were hardened (almost unripe). The meat pie was absolutely delicious. They pack it stuffed with juicy beef and little bits of vegetables. The crust is perfect, too: great texture, not too doughy, and great flavor as well. This meat pie is huge! One of the largest of this type of pie I've seen anywhere. And it's so delicious, you must try it. All in all, I am very, very pleasantly surprised with Fabs Restaurant. They make amazing African food, maybe the best in the city. I loved the puff puff and meat pie especially, although everything was tasty. Amazing prices for portions. Check this place out for delicious soul and African food!

You may have heard the word Fufu wandering around social media recently, as how- to videos for an…read more"easy" version of this carb heavy protein rich comfort food. I say skip the make at home version, because this restaurant will make it for you for a very fair price, and with no fuss whatsoever. We ordered a range of stews along with jollof rice. I asked for everything to be mildly spiced (other than the designer stew, which is largely habanero peppers and so can not be mild!) Everything was well seasoned, freshly prepared, and filling. We ate outside with a friend and the warmth of the pepper stew helped keep us distracted from the cold. Our favorite thing was actually the meat pies. They are homemade with a sweet dough and a delicious meat and potato filling. They are also a bargain at $5 for two hand sized pies. They would make an amazing lunch on their own and were just as delicious at room temperature as they were fresh from the oven. I do have to warn you about ordering the chin chin dessert. It is delicious, and you will wish you had more once it's gone. Order it early in the weekend in case you need to run back for more by Sunday night, or you'll have to wait almost a week for the restaurant to reopen. Go get yourself some fufu!
