jollof rice, fried plantain, goat meat
    Kimberley Y.

4.0/5 "Hole in the wall", no frills place with good food. I got the jollof rice, fried plantains, and goat meat. The jollof rice was delicious, with a kick of spiciness that I really enjoyed. The fried plantains were also great. The goat meat was a bit dry, though the chef had warned me that it would be, and that the beef would be more moist (I still opted for the goat meat because I don't eat beef, and it didn't seem like they had poultry options that day. She also warned me that the fried fish would have lots of bones.) I did enjoy the stew and sauces used to cook the goat meat. The interior is definitely no frills -- we opted to take out and eat by a park since the weather was nice. It felt very authentic -- the chef gave us suggestions on what to get when we walked in, and then cooked it fresh for us as we waited and chatted with one of their regular customers from Nigeria. My impression is that they have a limited menu that varies each day depending on what ingredients are available. Cash only!!

What did I eat? Entree: Jollof rice with chicken, plantains, moin moin, and spinach Pros 1. Big portions 2. Fast service 3. Friendly staff 4. Affordable Cons 1. Small tables and small space. Tables were very close together. 2. Flies around our dinner tables 3. Not easily accessible by patco 4. Cash ONLY (there's an ATM across the street) 5. Poor dining atmosphere (wouldn't recommend for a first date) 6. Chicken was extremely dry Overall: besides the cons mentioned above, I absolutely love this place! I have many Nigerian friends and have had plenty of Authentic Nigerian meals in the past. The food here is amazing, if not better than what I've had (sorry friends)! Everything was well seasoned and simply delicious! The only con about my meal was that the chicken was extremely dry. I regretted it as soon as I bit into it. If I could rewind time, I would've ordered smoked turkey. I'm not sure if I'll actually sit down for dinner again but I'd definitely order some food to go! You'll definitely have some left overs! I left satisfied :)

Really good food for very reasonable prices. Tried the moin-moin (delicious), the goat meat pepper soup (oh, so spicy, but quite good) and the spicy red sauce with fried croaker (also very good). The place is a hole in the wall, so like other reviewers, would probably take the food out. See my pictures for menu items and hours of operation. Definitely will come back for more!

Came in for the first time and ordered the fried rice with beef platter. it came with plantains and black eyed peas. Everything was good. nothing more or less. although the spicy red sauce was amazing. a lot of flavor and heat. the lady who served was very nice and the prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely will come back and try the stews and other dishes

FYI: they ONLY accept cash. I didn't know this because I am not from philly, I ordered fish and suya straight from the airport and went to pick it up. The suya was smh.. irk what that was. The fish was ok

What kind of food is here so I can go? Can someone please tell me because "AFRICAN" is not a type of cuisine. Thanks!

I ordered fufu and egusi soup. It's my favorite dish. So yummy! The restaurant is small, hot, and awkward to wait in though.

I love that they have options to add chicken and shrimp in your food. A lot of places haven't done it that way so I was happy. I ordered cassava leaf with shrimp and rice on the side for someone and it was 8.9/10 the flavor was good had a great kick to it and it was my first time trying potato greens and I was happy with it actually I'd always ordered Egusi soup but I wanted to try something different this time and I paid $10 for fufu enough for two people or more. The portions are fantastic I actually can't wait to eat the rest later. It was 10/10. The best fufu I've ever had. I'm a texture person and I'm part Korean and black so I didn't grow up eating African food so I could never eat fufu much I end up wasting it but here was totally different it was PERFECT I know I'll keep coming back to try their food! The pricing wasn't bad but it also can get costly. I paid $4 for a Minute Maid drink so total I ended up spending about $50 for two people and one drink.

He mentioned something that my food came with sauces and confirmed that they would but when the food came out, he declined he ever said that. I ordered the pepper soup and it was outright nasty. The meat was extremely tough and chewy, they didn't give it ample time to cook. I love me some African food but feel that because my girlfriend and I aren't African, we were treated differently. We could actually hear the microwave while they microwaved our food. Very disappointing experience, I wanted to see what everyone was raving about but this is just sad. At the end of the day we were charged for three meals though we ordered two. He did the math on his phone, no cash register and kept telling me that everything I ordered had an up charge.

I wished I could given this restaurant zero star rating or half a star rating. First of all, the…read moreorder took two hours, almost three hours. Then they claimed they had only one cook. The food was was the worst African food I've ever had. Just like their other location. I thought, ok, different spot, so let me give them a second shot. That was an insult to my tastebuds. The OKRA SAUCE should have been renamed undercooked beef tribes with burnt sauce. 1. I ordered okra sauce with fufu. I almost slapped my face when I opened the container and it was only bones, everything was burnt. There was no meat, only bones, and beef tribe and even that was so undercooked that I couldn't bit it, I had throw it to the stray cats in the neighborhood that ate it. The fufu was so small. Very disappointing. 2. It was suppose to be two fufu and okra sauce. They gave me only one tiny fufu and the other one was some yellow heavy patty. Which again, I didn't eat, actually I couldn't eat. That too was given to the stray cats. Then there was a free dish: potato greens with rice. This is my first time in my life, seeing greens cooked in regular oil and not palm oil. That too had only some nasty chicken. When I called to ask about my order... the lady picked up and answered the following: "who is this, what do you want?!" I explained that I ordered this and that and so on, she had me on hold for another 3 minutes, for something I've been waiting for about over 2 hours. Ridiculous! None of their cooking I good, no matter what location it is. And my advise is: don't open for business if you don't have enough cooks. Thats actually what your business is, you cook food for people.
