Being Nigerian, I reaaaaally wanted to like this place more than I did. But alas, my experience was mixed. I called in to place an order for pickup, and let's just say that the person on the phone wasn't the friendliest person in the world. Honestly, it made me laugh more than anything else because I just felt like my mom was yelling at me. I asked for moimoi, which they didn't have. Okay, how about meat pie? Not there. Well what about puff puff? Shockingly, they didn't have that either. I ended up placing an order for the jollof/goat meat combo with a side of plantains, but it was definitely disappointing that they were seemingly out of half the menu. I can't comment on the venue itself since a friend picked up the order for me. As for the actual food, the jollof and the plantains were delicious---party delicious, even. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy the goat---it had a weird, almost sour aftertaste. I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on the portion---for $16 the portion we received could've comfortably fed three people. The value is definitely there, so even though the experience was uneven, I'll probably give Wazobia another shot sometime in the future. read more

4.0/5 "Hole in the wall", no frills place with good food. I got the jollof rice, fried plantains, and goat meat. The jollof rice was delicious, with a kick of spiciness that I really enjoyed. The fried plantains were also great. The goat meat was a bit dry, though the chef had warned me that it would be, and that the beef would be more moist (I still opted for the goat meat because I don't eat beef, and it didn't seem like they had poultry options that day. She also warned me that the fried fish would have lots of bones.) I did enjoy the stew and sauces used to cook the goat meat. The interior is definitely no frills -- we opted to take out and eat by a park since the weather was nice. It felt very authentic -- the chef gave us suggestions on what to get when we walked in, and then cooked it fresh for us as we waited and chatted with one of their regular customers from Nigeria. Best Nigerian food I've ever had. I chose this place based on yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The customer service was fine to me. I ordered fufu with okra soup and goat meat and my friend ordered jollof rice with beef. I was stuffed and satisfied with my yummy meal. My friend loved the jollof but wasn't happy with the amount of beef (overcooked in his opinion as well) he was served. I would 100% go back and recommend it though, just not the beef read more

Really good food for very reasonable prices. Tried the moin-moin (delicious), the goat meat pepper soup (oh, so spicy, but quite good) and the spicy red sauce with fried croaker (also very good). Came in for the first time and ordered the fried rice with beef platter. it came with plantains and black eyed peas. Everything was good. nothing more or less. although the spicy red sauce was amazing. a lot of flavor and heat. the lady who served was very nice and the prices are pretty reasonable. The Loft District just gets better with time. Every morsel of food I consume and every spirit I imbibe seems to induce a psychedelic high that leaves me on cloud nine. Wazobia is no exception. This place serves up some serious West African cuisine and is worth whatever journey you have to take to get there. Tonight, I ordered the croaker fish plate with rice and savored every single bite. The fish was pan fried in a tomato sauce and had good texture. Each bite contained a symphony of flavors that danced on my tongue and delighted my palate. I ordered food for a college event. The chef made adjustments to meet the dietary preferences of my students while also giving us a taste of authentic Nigerian food. The students loved the Joloff rice, plantains, and mixed meats. They did a great job preparing a large order for us. I have already come back for a second time within a week, even though it's a 3 mile ride! Just plan ahead, they take orders over the phone. I arrived at 1 pm for lunch. The menu had many selections but everything I chose was not available except the croaker fish with plantains. This place is not good. The food was horrible. They made the potato greens so spicy you can't even enjoy them and even if you could they were not cooked properly . I would never go again. I am writing this as I polish off a huge bowl of Wazobia's goat pepper soup. I'm in my sweats and trying to decide if I should lick the bowl or not. Just kidding about licking the bowl. Kinda. But seriously, there is nothing better on a rainy day at the end of a long week than some good food from Wazobia. FOOD: The food here is simply FABULOUS. So far, I have had the jollof rice, goat pepper soup, egusi, red spicy sauce, plaintains, and fried fish. Every single item has been cooked and seasoned to perfection. I live a good half hour away, so I have to pay cab fare to and from on top of the restaurant's (reasonable) food prices. It is totally worth it for the consistently superb, tasty food this place serves up. Nothing makes me crankier than paying good money for bad food, so Wazobia's consistently delicious fare really, really makes me happy. If you like spicy food, their goat pepper soup is to die for. If you like mild, yet very flavorful items then I recommend the jollof rice with plaintains. SERVICE: The only thing more generous than their portions is their spirit. The restaurant's owners and servers are such nice, friendly people. They welcomed me, helped me order, and sent me off with a smile. THE DECOR: This is an ultra-authentic hole-in-the-wall, so it is best for take-out than it is for sit-down meals on the premises. I am ordinarily into the ambience of a place, but I cannot hold it against the owners of Wazobia that they do not appear to have much money. The space is small and cluttered, so I always get my food to go. If you are a decor snob, then go elsewhere. This restaurant's emphasis is on the food and the kindness they show. Maybe if we all do our part to support this fledgling business, the owners will make enough money to move somewhere bigger and nicer. the owner is so queenly and generous, in that not only does she give you the most tasty and delicious food, but the servings are sufficient to feed you and two others. my daughter and her girl friend will attest to that fact. i make a special visit from augusta georgia once a month, just to bring some of wazobia's food down south. my nieghboors have now become my family, they have made me the official carrier. we need a wazobia down here. ten stars for wazobia's and a dozen roses for the owner. read more

Oh, I love this place. It's sort of a hole in the wall but I swear I would go to this place at least twice a week if I lived in the city. And even though it is almost an hour a way, I make the journey often, just to eat from here. They do catering too and the food is still awesome. Whenever there is a west african event that I need to attend, I am more excited for the food than the actual event, if Wazobia is catering. As a teenager I accompanied my parents to Western Africa, Nigeria. We became acquainted with many locals. I got used to the food. I had a crush on a local dish and I withheld this secret in the deepest chambers of my heart. As the African sun rose I heard the women sing and start their pounding of food with babies wrapped around their waist. Physically I followed my parents weaving my way through the mud huts, but mentally I was miles away. My soul was a like a drum beating in rhythm with the distant drums, hums and signing and pounding all just waiting for that hour to come. It was a painful wait I told no one. Finally the hour of passion and indulgence rolled around. My pulsating heart was slowly settling down as I held her and I whispered a silent word 'I love you baby'. My passion to be with her was very strong. One day the sad news was declared we had to evacuate. We packed up and left for India. I had no time to say goodbye to her. I bottled all my tears, locked my pain in the deepest chambers of my heart, when the hour rolled to leave a tear drop rolled out. Days rolled to weeks, weeks rolled to years no drum beat, no pounding, no signing women, every thing had set with the African sun set. I got word that we are moving to States, my aching heart limped back to life hoping to be reunited. I tried everything none could satisfy my longing soul. One day I was driving down a very desolate street in Philadelphia sad, depressed with a heavy aching heart, tears rolling down my pale, ashen checks. Through the tears I saw an African restaurant, I screamed out in hyper excitement IYAN!! IYAN!! that's her birth name nicknamed FUFU. Yeah Baby!!. After many years I found her. I slammed my brakes made an illegal u-turn and ran into the restaurant. Sat down very quietly waiting for my girl to appear from the secret doors, the minutes seemed to crawl by and finally she appeared.
