    African Small Pot decor-
    Risa D.

First of all, I was very nicely greeted by the owner. As I placed my order, the owner was surprised to learn that I wanted broken rice. I got Yassa Poisson and lamb with broken rice. I am sooo excited for my order because there was a little spot on 116th in NYC I used to love and frequent. Prices are super reasonable, the restaurant is BIG and CLEAN. I will definitely be back.

I tried their Yassa Poisson it was really good I'll be back to try some Egusi Soup

The restaurant was clean and I didn't have to wait long for my food the customer service was nice too

Grilled red snapper and rice with grilled onions and peppers...

This review is strictly based on the food, as I did not visit this establishment... I've tried African food, lots of times but I normally don't get such a simple dish. I ordered the grilled red snapper and it came with rice and sauteed onions and peppers. First and foremost the fish was extremely fresh and grilled to perfection. I couldn't tell you what spices were used to season the fish but it was simply amazing. Now, if your an onion lover, like I am, then you should be able to tell from the picture that I was in heaven. The sauteed onions had a slight smoked flavor with hints of black and white pepper... Again, I'm only guessing because I'm unsure what spices were used. This platter was very large and it took me two days to finish my meal, but I can definitely say, I'll be back to speak with the chef... I must know what spices were used on this dish... The food is a solid 10, across the board!!!!

It was my first time visiting here and I was absolutely taken aback by the kind and hospitable owner. He made my friends and myself feel very welcome and even remembered my friend from years back when she first visited. The food was absolutely wonderful! The chicken was so tender that it pulled right off the bone. I am so excited to go back. The service and food are both equally amazing and it has a very authentic and homey vibe. Portion sizes are huge so you definitely get a bang for your buck. My new favorite spot in Philly!

I don't have much experience with Senegalese food but after trying the Thiebou Yapp here, I'm very much a fun. Super traditional vibe which adds to the homecooked comfort style of the food. The portion sizes were incredible for the price and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The spicy onions added the extra kick to really round off the flavor and the rice complemented the sharp flavors so well. Can't wait to come back the next time I'm in New York.

We started with a bag of small, cornbread-like buns that were slightly sweet and so delicious--perfect for snacking before the main dishes arrived. We also ordered two homemade drinks: the Senegal ginger drink, which had a bold kick to it, and the bouye drink, made from baobab fruit, which was creamy, slightly tangy, and refreshing. We'd never tasted anything like these. Both were unique and complemented the flavors of the food, which came out quickly. For our main dishes, we tried the Chicken Yassa, a traditional Senegalese dish of marinated chicken cooked with caramelized onions, lemon, and mustard. It had a wonderful tangy flavor with tender, flavorful chicken that literally fell off the bone. We also had the Thiebou Djen, the national dish of Senegal, which is a savory, tomato-based fish and rice dish cooked with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cassava. I opted for red jollof over yellow and loved the crispy parts. This dish was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor. We wanted to try the Fataya (fried fish or meat turnovers) but unfortunately, they were out. Despite that, we had more than enough food; we left feeling stuffed and still took home a large to-go container. The food came out quickly, and the staff was prompt with bringing water to the table. Overall, it was a great West African dining experience with generous portions and authentic flavors. We'll definitely be ordering their delivery!

We tried the beef empanadas and mushroom croquettes for apps, dibi senegal (grilled lamb chops with rice and plantains) and the mafe (peanut stew with beef)-- nothing was left on our plates at the end. The things that can be improved: - the service was quite chaotic- we had made this reservation days in advance and were seated and had already placed our order for appetizers (or so we thought) when the waiter regretted to inform us that we'd have to be moved to a different table. The table we were moved to was right in the middle of the restaurant but by the door and it felt like we were being bumped into all night - as it turns out, the waiter moved us but never did place our appetizer order. So we waited, and waited, and no food came. They even served a table who came in after us! We did find it super strange but figured maybe our food was taking longer? Anyway eventually the waiter realized what happened and came over to take our order for the apps and also our entree (as at this point we had been seated closer to 45 mins). He also offered us each a free drink "on the house" if we wanted as an apology for the wait. Two of the three of us took him up on the offer and ordered two mocktails. As it turns out, at the end of the night when we got the bill, both of these mocktails were added on to our bill, despite what we were told that they'd be "on the house" - my friend ordered a dish to go - which she wanted to take for her mom- and they forgot to add it to the bill or place the order so at the end of the night my friend had to leave empty handed and disappoint her mom who was very excited to try the dish. Overall: The food is phenomenal. The service can be significantly improved.

This spot is located inside an African museum. It is a small place when you walk in. The food is all cooked and laid out on trays. I asked the attendant what is the best dish and he asked if I want spicy or not. I said no spicy and he made the chicken bowl recommendation. The bowl was delicious ! Rice was cooked al dente, chicken juicy, beans so tender and topped with plantains! I have not been a fan of plantains but this one was delicious. And flavor profile was strong and hearty. My fiancé ordered a Yassa Yassa Grilled Chicken Bowl and I ordered a custom bowl. The delivery was very quick and it got to where we were faster than I expected which was a plus. Service was very good! I got a call saying one of the sauces I wanted was out unfortunately but they were helpful in providing me with alternatives. The Yassa Yassa bowl was very delicious, full of bold flavors, and a beautiful contrast between the spicy aromatic jollof, the sweet plantains, and the tangy onion sauce. The chicken in this bowl was definitely a little overdone and could have used more flavor. For my custom bowl, I got a chicken suya bowl with jollof as my base, plantains and the kale stew (Efo riro ) as sides and initially wanted the peanut (mafe) sauce which they were out of so I also tried the yassa or onion sauce. My bowl was absolutely delicious! Same bold flavors as the first bowl but the chicken was juicy, tender, and well spiced. Made all the difference! Both came with a nice chimichurri like spicy sauce called rof which I really enjoyed since it added a spicy, herbal, bright kick to the bowl. This place has amazing flavor and is very filling! I love the fast casual nature of it and how nourishing it feels. This is basically a Chipotle but West African inspired. The portion of meat was very generous in each bowl which was nice. The jollof was amazing! Highly recommend trying one of their suya meats since the seasoning is incomparable! Will be going back again for more bowls in the future.
