Other doctors brushed it off, but Dr. Houman took the time to truly listen and explain how varicoceles can cause pain and impact sperm quality and hormones. His depth of expertise in microsurgical varicocele repair and testicular pain treatment is obvious. He was thorough, honest, and never pushed unnecessary treatment. The care felt very precise and highly specialized. Since treatment, my testicular pain has significantly improved and my fertility testing showed significant improvement! Just as important, I finally felt confident and supported throughout the process. If you're dealing with varicoceles, chronic testicular pain, or infertility and want a urologist who genuinely specializes in men's health, I highly recommend Dr. Houman.

We were flying back from San Franciso and they were booked solid, but the staff understood the urgency and gave us the first cancellation later that afternoon. Dr. Houman saw me immediately; quickly understood the issue at hand, personally swung into action, and ten minutes later had the situation under complete control. He wrote a prescription, gave me exact instructions what to do and what to look for over the next few days, and scheduled a follow-up appointment a few days later. A week later, the issue is in the rear view mirror and I have urologist for life. Dr. Houman is down to earth, very personal, and clearly cheering you on for success. His entire staff follow his lead - a terrific group of healthcare professionals.

If I could give this hospital zero stars, I would. I honestly don't know who is managing the place…read more While the medical service itself was excellent, the way security operates is deeply concerning--they seem to have more authority than the hospital's own CEO, Kerry Heinrich. Upon admission, we were provided with the hospital's rules and policies, signed all the paperwork, and clearly understood the disclaimers (e.g., personal responsibility for belongings, falls, etc.). After our baby was born, everything went well until the second night. I had to leave for work and asked my mother to stay with my wife and the baby. At that point, security--specifically the third-party company Allied Universal--insisted that I was not allowed to leave because, as the father, it was "hospital policy" that I remain onsite. When I asked to see this policy in writing, both the supervisor, Chris, and another security officer, Emanuel, refused to provide any documentation. They simply repeated that this was a "private hospital with private policies." This was never part of the paperwork we signed nor anything disclosed upfront. The situation escalated when a security officer, who claimed to have created this rule, became upset after I challenged her about it. Emanuel later accused me of insulting her, but my frustration came only from being denied transparency about a supposed policy that does not exist in writing. Mr. Heinrich, if you wish to maintain this hospital's reputation, I strongly urge you to review the conduct of your contracted security company. As it stands, they appear to exercise unchecked authority that undermines both patient experience and trust in hospital leadership. Thank you.

René Sotelo, MD - Beware, this is the Nephrologist Dr. Sotelo referred my husband to after not performing any tests and claiming he may have kidney failure.

My husband went to the Verdugo Hills Hospital ER with severe back pain, got a CT scan confirming he…read morehad a kidney stone so he was given meds to manage the pain. The ER referred my husband to urologist Dr. Sotelo (also associated with VHH) and to be seen by him within a week. I called to schedule an appointment, but the office had no appointments for 3 weeks. 3 weeks later, my husband arrives at his appointment with Dr. Sotelo where a tech took his blood pressure. Dr. Sotelo came in and asked my husband if he had any pain and he said no. Then without giving my husband a physical exam, or taking a urine sample, Dr. Sotelo stood there looking at my husband and said "well your kidneys might be failing" I'm not sure how Dr. Sotelo can stand there, look at a patient and come to this conclusion without a physical exam or at the least a urine sample test. I may not be a doctor, but I am pretty certain that if a major organ is failing, there would be obvious symptoms and my husband had none. Dr. Sotelo then recommended my husband go see a kidney specialist in San Dimas which is a probably just a buddy of his that he helps get business for by doing the exact thing he did to my husband. My husband was shuffled to another waiting area to place the order for imaging where he waited another 15 minutes for the office staff to figure out the next steps. We later looked up the clinical notes from Dr. Sotelo on Keck Medicine's patient portal and couldn't believe what we saw. Dr. Sotelo had listed all these notes for physical examination on my husband that he did not do. So not only did this doctor fear monger, but he also falsified the medical summary. When I called the office to complain, the person I spoke to couldn't care less which leads me to believe this happens often and they get away with it. We decided to get a second opinion with a urologist at Huntington Hospital and this doctor was far more thorough. He actually ran a urine test and did a real physical exam. He told my husband odds are very low for kidney failure, but that my husband could do imaging just to see if any other kidney stones are forming so we have a better idea of what's to come in the next year. This urologist said a Nephrologist was not necessary to go see. We're glad we got a second opinion. If you value your health and don't like getting taken advantage of, I'd highly recommend avoiding Dr. Sotelo.

My dad wanted a second opinion and we went to USC Keck where the MD there wanted to take a very aggressive approach that included removal of an organ. He didn't even look at my dad or ask him questions. Back to Dr. Dikranian we told him of the opinion and he did not agree. We agreed with Dr. Dikranian as well. My dad had two procedures to get the situation resolved. Unfortunately my dad didn't take his medicine as prescribed and had to be taken to the ER. Dr. Dikranian was in communication with the hospitalist and the issue was promptly resolved. We are really thankful for Dr. Dikranian for his knowledge and his incredible bedside manner. We also appreciate his bilingual staff who make us feel welcome and the ease to make appointments.

I am currently doing more testing and lifestyle treatments however I have received opinions from a couple other doctors and they said I may require surgery to resolve these issues, the thing is I have more than one issue.
