I had my suglasses tuned up by one of the "associates" at the Barracks location, where the the lenses were broken within 5 minutes of handling. Since the frame was discontinued, I was offered very limited options as far as replacements. Long story short - my sunglasses were broken and was given an insulting 10% discount on my next purchase. I would consider playing "frogger" on I-495 before ever going into that shop again.

They seem to really move through customers without making you feel rushed. They're also not trying to convince you to do every exam to charge extra. Last year I got my eyes dialated, and this year I did not need to. I didn't want to but was glad to hear my doctor recommend holding off for another year herself! Makes you feel like they care, at least a little bit. Overall the staff is friendly and helpful. Did not find/have problems. They are relatively easy to set an appointment with (online or by phone). I say this is one of my better eye appointment experiences without feeling like I've wasted a whole day!

When I went in over lunch break I found a half a dozen frames that I liked and narrowed them down to 2 frames. Mr. Shifflet, the owner, gave me his opinion and asked his daughter to come look too. I took selfies to show my husband that night and he immediately told me I should take the glasses home and show him in person. I have never had this good service anywhere else. Parking is plentiful, the store has a lot of frames and sunglasses to choose from and the service is outstanding. I will be a repeat customer.

The only con is I live in Charlottesville, and find getting out there for a contaxts lens exam (40 min roundtrip on just the driving) with a follow up to check the contacts (again, another 4p just on the drive) is too much for a busy mom and business owner. And, i got my eyes dilated, and after 2 years of being a patient they HAD to sign a new waiver that said exaxtly what the old thjng said - payment due, right to privacy - but with dilated eyes you couldnt read anything. After repeating this 3 times to the receptionist she read it it to me (which took 10 min). It could have waited. That was Michelle - she needs a course in the customer experience. The 5 star is for everyone else. I had to schedule up a 10 min follow up appointment for the contact lens check up, and its 2 weeks our or 3 weeks. Thats just frustrating. My eyes are healthy. Just give me my dang contacts. ****update****When i expressed my discontent with the wait time as a long time client, they squeezed me in before a plane trip, which is cool. I spoke with Kelly in the reception who helped make that happen - that woman is a good addition to the office.

What really made this place deserve 5 stars is what happened almost a year after. I was in Mexico City for some time and realized I could take advantage of the cheap prescription sunglasses there. With only a few days left, I called the office back in the states to get my prescription. Eventually the phone was picked up and I was told that they are not in the location I had my exam at and asked if I can wait until the next day. Since I couldn't, they had someone stop by the office to take a picture of my prescription to send it to me. This isn't something every office would do for you and for that I am forever grateful. I had an 8 am appointment, I arrived at 7:45 as requested for my requisite paperwork and then wasn't taken back until 8:25 am. Zero explanation for the delay. Given that I tried this office solely because of the 8am appointment (which I waited 4 months for), this was genuinely disappointing. The tech was nice enough, but didn't really seem to care beyond going through the motions of the pre-exam. I mentioned I was shopping for new frames, to which no suggestion was made to shop their selection or any interest paid beyond that. Having stated that my eyes were fine, no changes at all since my last exam, and with no explanation given as to the medical need for it, my pupils were dilated. The doctor spent all of 4 minutes in the room, said everything looked great, and didn't do anything beyond that. So now my pupils are blown out to the heavens for no reason- great. I asked if my prescription had changed and they said it hadn't really. It actually did adjust, they were just bad at communicating that. It wasn't until I saw it on the actual prescription that I could see how it had changed. As a new patient, there was zero effort given to get to know or any consideration that they might want to retain me as a patient. Which, given the experience I had, they absolutely will not be seeing me ever again. Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction from this dated and uncaring eye doctor's office.
